BUT, when we visited to use the wheelchair swings (a rarity in lots of places) - the swings were chained down and there was a sign with a phone number that said to call to have them unlocked. Unfortunately, we had driven almost an hour exclusively to visit this park only to find out you have to call to have the swings unlocked. The saddest part is that they are chained to the ground. So, then you are standing (sitting rather) looking at the possibility for fun, but you cannot use them. Long story short, no one came to unlock the swings although we called multiple numbers. (It makes sense that the swings would be locked as they could potentially be dangerous if someone where to misuse them or leave the ramp down and an able bodied child trip over them. But if this park is going to have a major aspect of its marketing be about inclusion then shouldn't there be a person present at all times to unlock one of the few features that is truly accessible? Let's face it the child with disabilities can't realistically use the slides and various other items able bodied kids can, so perhaps the approach to the swings should be re-evaluated). The park is so beautiful and really looks like a lot of fun for children and families. It is clean and spacious. There is a nice walking path around it. There is a water feature for kids who want to get out of the heat. There is exercise equipment which is accessible. There is even an area for dogs if you insist on bringing yours (although most of the park is off limits to dogs). This park looks great for both adults and children. It is also secured with safety latches on the gates so kids can't accidentally escape. Had we known one had to call ahead we would have. Thus, this is a cautionary tale. The park is fabulous BUT IF YOU NEED ACCESSIBILITY CALL FIRST.

The grassy field is sizable enough for kickball and other such terrain-sprawling sport. We had a compelling game of pine one ninja (think live-action fruit ninja, sub Dowel rods and pine cones). There's a quaint earthen walking path on the far side of the park that, I believe, leads to a pedestrian sidewalk passing over I40 and leading to the Winrock mall. There's also A bunch of well-maintained tennis courts, which I thought were for public use but appear to be restricted access... tennis club or something? I don't know for sure; better check with google on that. There's imposing chain link fences surrounding them, and while tunneling under may be difficult due to the asphalt and turf perimeter, you could probably climb them if you really wanted to play when the courts were closed. * Yelp does not condone criminal trespassing, and their views are not necessarily reflected in my satirical advice on circumventing restricted access. McDuffie is a unique park, the city's only hidden park!…read more Pros: It is close to UNM and other schools like Jefferson Middle- distances from Central campus: 3 min drive, 8 min bike ride, 30 min walk. -Although it's hidden, there are 7 entrances, making it easy to access. -It is a good size: 13,000 sq ft. -It's secluded: good for intimacy & peace; in a quiet neighborhood w/ kind residents. -It has several strategically placed benches -It supports wildlife: there are several tree species which provide shade, ~41 different bird species (including roadrunners!) -There are weekly happenings! (such as tai chi classes) -Dog park: It's practically fenced in, there are water bowls placed by a resident -A place to play soccer, read a book, walk your dog, have a picnic, study or meditate, or simply RELAX! -It has a HUGE Free Little Library- free books! or a place to donate old books. Cons: There is no parking lot available, only street side parking. -The neighborhood it's in is close to known crime district. -It is not easily discoverable. (thank goodness for these reviews!) -It has a lack of amenities: no playground, no restrooms, no picnic tables. -There are lots of mosquitos (especially in summer) -Many owners let their dogs off the leash. -The park prohibits glass containers/alcohol -Hard balls (baseballs, etc) are prohibited in the park. The Hahn canal goes through this park, breaking in a "Y" fashion. But the park is big, so even though the canal is here, it really doesn't take much away from visitors using it. And there's lots to do. There's a nice tennis complex, with 4 tennis courts. There's plenty of space for walking, which is what I like to do. And there's a swing set for the kiddos. There aren't many picnic tables, but plenty of grass to sit on. Just bring your own blanket to place on the ground to enjoy a meal that you've brought with you. I go here each weekday, so maybe I'll see you there. :)

This park is just south of the main balloon park so if the wind is right, you get quite a show without the huge crowd. We like to bring chairs and blankets and watch the balloons sail over. Often times the balloons will land in the park, and you can get close to them. The kids enjoy collecting cards from the balloonists once they safely land. There is also a big playground here for the kids, and port o potties.

Those people are always a good sign that the scene is going to be on the down-low. My daughter tore into this elaborate play structure themed to resemble an explorer's ship (Columbus, I assume) and a small thatched hut village (the natives he and his crew systematically eradicated upon arrival). Slides, hiding spots, climbing poles and ropes galore. Throughout the rest of the park: four tennis courts (funny how the north valley has so many more of these, per capita), two basketball half courts (strangely situated so a full court game cannot be played), and a wide open field for sporting and otherwise. The Bad: Sand. No shade, save the plastic mock palm trees that shelter the plastic mock thatch village. No bucket swings. The Verdict: In a terrific twist of ABQ fate, we were treated to a truly local New Mexican scene. Two moms, two kids and three chihuahuas suddenly arrived, running rampant over the grounds. One of the mutts agitated the retriever, sending That Metal Detector Guy to the soccer field. The kids were sweet and playful, their parents quite attentive (not standing around staring at their cell phones, which is typical) and the dogs delighted my daughter. This is a great place to frolic, young and old alike, clean and well cared for.

As time went on I would take my children there to play in the playground and also to chase balls for us as we played tennis. I believe they have three tennis courts, they have a newly updated play area for the children and they have a few swings which I think are oddly place far away from the Ramada. The Ramada has three tables. There are no restrooms there but one water fountain and plenty of green grass to let your children run and play or play Frisbee or to play catch or to play soccer or even just to lay down and enjoy a nice day staring at the sky. There's a walkway around the park where you can get your exercise in, there's plenty of off-street parking although at night time there's no lighting and it's surrounded by new homes with, in my opinion, not as friendly homeowners as before the area was redone. This is not one of the bigger parks it doesn't have two play areas just one play area where the older kids and the younger kids all have to learn to play and share together. We like to have our birthday parties at this park because first it has a Ramada and secondly it's close to our home in case anyone needs the restroom. It serves its purpose.
