This is the slowest place on planet earth. They're completely unorganized and the employees don't communicate with each other. Waiting for a to go order for 20-30 minutes while they serve countless people in line is unacceptable. Ordering ahead is supposed to speed up the process not slow it down. I don't recommend this place if you value your time and sanity. read more

Finally! Got some real Tex-mex after being in new bern for five years. It was mostly good. They knew how to make guacamole, and boy have I missed that! Queso was good. The beef was too salty. Will try chicken next time. Real fajitas should have been served with tortillas, not nacho chips. It's a no frills place but it's clean and the employees were friendly. Will go again. read more

This is my first time here. I decided to try the S-Turn bowl. The flavors and portion size were decent but the rice was undercooked and that affected everything else. The restaurant was clean and the staff were friendly. The service was very fast. There are zero complaints about the staff. There's a new location coming very soon near my home and I'll give it another try and hope for better rice. read more

Like to see locally owned places more in surrounding areas vs franchise Chipotles..i see more locations are popping up for example in jville. My first time was at the Swansboro location and we were on our way to eat downtown but stopped by here instead. Everything is fresh made to order..a thought that this being by the beach and all hoping they would add ahi tuna as option for fish..overall great quality tacos and love the sauce condiments options..definitely go to when i visit fam and we go out to eat..tables are also socially distanced inside too. read more

No need to order online, they don't start making it until you get there. Then they make everyone who walks in while you're waiting before they make yours. Ordered 20 minutes before I got there, then waited 20 minutes while people just walked in got their food. read more

I got to work early and decided to swing down to Swansboro to get some infamous Burrito Shak. The staff was friendly and made my order correctly which is uncommon for this day and age. The burrito was fresh and tasty. I added some queso which is a must. The restaurant did need a touch up as there were some wear and tear. I would return as it was a quiet place to enjoy some lunch before work. read more

Got my order wrong. Twice. Ordered a steak and cheese burrito and got the wrong thing. Went another time and got it wrong again. I understand the employees have good intentions but I am not pleased with the lack of care for getting my order correct. Food tastes good though. Would not recommend if your a picky eater like me and bent on getting your order picture perfect. read more

Walked into this place made me feel like I was back home in California. It is very clean, staff is super friendly, and food was not bad. Don't be deterred by me saying not bad. My reservations were on the pulled pork which we were allowed to try prior to choosing it, and I thought that was really cool. The pulled pork we tried was a little dry at that time. I chose Carne Asada, and the meat isn't really grilled which is what that means. Not saying that it wasn't prior, and then put in serving bowl with their seasoning. It doesn't give it the flavor of the Asada when it's off the grill. The fried fish cod taco was very fresh, only suggestion I have is that it was soggy once I received it because of everything that is placed on top. I would double fry it and may add less toppings. My tacos were reggae style. I love that they were military forward as we are part of the military family. The staff was on top of it when somebody would leave to clean tables. What I also enjoyed was being able to eat and not feel like I had a greasy oily meal. They have clean eating if you want to eat on the lighter side! They need very little improvement, but they are on their way. read more

This place is the BEST. It's similar to Chipotle but SO much better and faster! All the ingredients used are incredibly fresh and delicious. The staff at this location are hospitable and friendly!! This is absolutely one of my go-to lunch spots in the Cedar Point/Swansboro area. read more

Have ordered to go multiple times (same experience each time). Usually show up a little after the 15-20 recommended wait time. It is never started then have to wait 20 more minutes on-site. They are normally apologetic but they need process improvement big time. Just waited 55 minutes after they forgot the order twice and one order was still wrong. Also provided them with 2 free queso cards and one 1 queso. Food is decent, about 6/10. read more

Burrito Shak in Hampsteqd is awesome. The food is tasty and the staff is incredibly nice. By comparison, the staff at the Burrito Shak in Swansboro is rude, the service is slow, and the food rushed. My wife did the honest thing and told the cashier they had forgotten to charge her for our son's quesadilla and they responded by accusing her of messing up the order. They then took over 10 minutes to correct the issue while my four sons sat in the car hungry. On top of this, the food was disappointing. If in Hampstead, go to the Burrito Shak! If in Swansboro, give it a pass...this branch doesn't live up to the flagship of the franchise. read more

I'm editing my once five star review to give information regarding this establishment during the COVID time... I understand there are a lot of people in this town who are pretending we are not apart of the rest of the country in this global pandemic. For whatever reason, most of this town is wandering around without masks, and with no regard to six feet apart. Fine. I can stay home and protect my family that way. However we do want to support our local businesses. We went to grab some lunch from Burrito Shak yesterday and to my surprise and disgust, not ONE employee was wearing a mask as they leaned over and grabbed every food item in the Tim's to assemble guest orders. Only half the employees wore gloves, and half of those gloves had one glove on. Masks should be a mandatory part of a uniform in consideration of food right now. Period. The way employees were leaning into the food talking to the guest as they were literally inches away from everything, was awful. In that moment, we decided we would not be dining there again. A guest also cake in and in, and unmasked, gave her order while leaning against the glass pane and pointing over the glass the entire time. No effort to have her keep her distance was made. I would have taken pictures, but that seemed rude. Maybe I should have said something. I'm saying something here. I'm sad to edit a five star review. I'm sad to not eat there again. But, in these unprecedented and unsure times, at least FAKE IT that you care. read more

Nothing bad to say for this place! GREAT vegan options, including the slaw option and tofu :) sauces are great, and so are the people! They have great attitudes- even the lady that had a broken foot! I have lived here for 3 years and eaten here at least 15 times. I have a negative experience with the service almost every single time. Slow service, bad portions, and one time I waited 30 minutes to find out they gave my meal to someone else. The food is average, but the issues make it not worth the stop. read more

I always expect more when I go to this place. In my mi d it will be a good burrito place with fun employees, but this place just sucks really. Workers use swear words, have little childish jokes between each other. More importantly, the food is bad. Just leaves you very disappointed... go next door to the pizza forno, way better. read more

Heard great things about the Shak, so gave it a try tonight. LONG line but well worth the wait! Had fish tacos on soft corn tortillas (ala Paradise fixins). The cod was scrumptious! My daughter had a large salad with lots of tasty toppings. The kiddos had carne and cheese quesadillas and 100% juice boxes. These choosy eaters want to return! When reading up on this place I was impressed by how much is locally sourced, and house made. The homemade corn tortillas were the best I'd had since leaving California. read more

Really great fast casual Mexican food. Definitely in the same realm as Chipotle and Moe's. Very cute beachy/coastal vibe but not over done. We went at prime dinner rush so we expected a bit of a wait. The line was moving and the employees were doing all that they could to accommodate guests. This place is still new and it shows but that fact that they got through so many people with few hiccups was impressive. The food was very good! Tortillas fresh and the various sauces were really great also. They were so packed that we ended up taking ours to go but even with the 10 minute car ride everything was fantastic. Not bad. Definitely a Moes set up which is familiar and easy. The salsa/cabbage stuff is a little messy and the pork kinda oily but the taste is better than Moes or chipotle could ever be. The pork actually tastes like wood cooked NC pork, the flavors in everything else are great and the prices are good. Came as a recommendation from HSGI around the corner and I'm glad I went. But, in the meantime my dad tried to ask for assistance from the manager sitting at the end of the bar and he ignored us. We were trying to set up an iPad so my niece would be entertained while we waited. The second time my dad tried to flag him down thinking he might not have seen him the first time he shook his head and pointed at our server behind the bar. ARE YOU KIDDING? You're a manager, you're here to make the dining experience seamless, to support the staff and customers. DO YOUR JOB. Lazy. Also, when we ordered a pitcher of margaritas I asked for silver tequila, the server nodded and came back with a pitcher that had grenadine and cherries in it. So not a classic margarita and not what we asked for. It was a little on the sweet side but we agreed it was fine. But, when the check came we saw it was rang in as a top shelf pitcher? Also, not what we asked for. The food was okay. Crab quesadilla and fish tacos were pretty decent. That's the only saving grace here. The chicken and steak served with the fajitas was super dry. We've come here 5 times in total. Not going back.
