This was a lovely little pub on Burra's main square. I wouldn't necessarily say surprising considering that Burra is sort of a touristy destination, but the pub itself was surprisingly warm and friendly. It had a rather lovely, old-time atmosphere, which certainly sits well with the historical aspect of the town. In fact, it is probably the pub where most of the tourists tend to end up. Sure, the beer selection isn't all that great, but the atmosphere certainly is. I initially wanted to give this place only one star but then I came across some information that made me change my mind. I was in Burra in May this year and me and my partner wanted to have a pint somewhere outside. The Burra Hotel was one of the few options so we decided to go for it because the terrace overlooked the rather cute town centre. The pints (on tap) came real quick because hardly anyone else was in there. I first thought it smelled a bit strange but after I had my first taste I could definitely tell it was off. It tasted like rotten eggs, something you really don't want to associate with beer. Or anything else for that matter. My partner went back in, complained and the guy gave him two bottles instead. Another customer who was sitting next to us watched the whole scenario and later told us that the place has had many problems lately with their pipes. So the guy who served us was well aware of the fact that his beer was off, reason enough for me never to go back. However, I read that the place is under new management since September so I'm pretty sure all has changed. Yet, I haven't been there since and can only write this review according to my own experience. read more
