Sadly, the markers/paint was not out for people to leave their graffiti due to COVID but we had a great time finding the markings we left 2 years prior (and we found one!!!). The outside of the gallery is much more interesting than the inside; you could spend a good chunk of time just looking at the messages and artwork on all 4 sides of this shed-like building. They must clean it up so people can paint over the bottom 6 feet, where most people can reach). We only were able to find our initials as my husband creatively wrote them up very, very high (I think at one point I may have been trying to hold him up, hahahaha). Outside and around the gallery is a fantastic location for photos and to sit and enjoy the sunshine and/or water. I have been there when the Lake was wave and the waves washed over the dock - so be careful when you visit if you do not want to get wet or cold! I would say the Hardy Gallery is a must-see, even if you only stop for a moment and especially if you are on the western side of Door County.

Inside we found numerous paintings that we enjoyed and once again, they offer items in different price ranges. They had beautiful wood pieces that would look wonderful in a home. Besides being beautiful, they seemed to have been made with a quality that will last forever. I also found several artists (jewelry) that I will continue to look for and support. If I remember correctly, all of their artists were local or if not from the region around Wisconsin, they were all from the states. The 2 ladies also gave us excellent references for places to eat while we were in the area!

This is one of the shops that I found before we headed to Door County and decided I wanted to…read morevisit. It's a nice shop, but I didn't find a lot that interested me. I did buy a couple of baskets. They had some really cool art in the back, but they were prints so I skipped them. The originals have been made with leaves and other botanicals to create some really interesting work, but it didn't have the same impact for me as a simple print. The shop carries a lot of home decor sorts of things like baskets, vases, bowls, candles, and that sort of thing. Also they have a wide selection of jewelry. I almost forgot about wanting to stop here until I checked the Yelp collection I made, and we didn't pass the store when wandering along Main Street because it was separated from most of the other shops to some extent, being next door to a restaurant and one other shop but removed from the bulk of the shopping area. So if you want to stop by keep your eyes peeled.

It has been a couple weeks since we enjoyed a concert over the Labor Day weekend in Door County,…read moreWI. The concert series we enjoyed was held at an amazing venue, The Clearing. The pieces we enjoyed this wonderful afternoon were: Suite in G Minor, Op. 71 - Moritz Moszkowski, Trio on Chassidic Melodies by Paul Schoenfield, and Piano Quartet in C Minor, Op. 13 by Richard Strauss. The middle piece by Paul Schoenfield, was particularly enjoyable as it is in a unique and lively style which compliments the more traditional chamber music we usually hear. The Moszkowski piece was also very moving and awe inspiring, while Richard Strauss was the perfect way to end this concert, leaving us mystified by the talent of the musicians. The people of Midsummer's Music, from administrative staff, to the organizing vision of Jim Birkenstock, to the myriad gifted yet humble musicians, is what makes this series so special. We can often find concerts held in magnificent venues, from concert halls to library auditoriums, but seldom can you chat with the musicians to learn what inspires them to produce such beautiful music! Come to Door County, Wisconsin. Enjoy the nature, the restaurants, the galleries and the people. Come to Door County to take in some equally breath taking music!

I didn't realize there was one until I was about to head out and by that point I've been in there long enough I didn't wanna have the kiddos start freaking out. They have art of almost any medium here. There were some really beautiful earrings various precious stones; ruby, diamond, emerald. They had oil paintings, acrylics, and encaustic; woodworking watercolors. I really loved the hanging mosaics that I saw here. I'd love to have one of those to hang in one of the windows in my kitchen, but I'm just not sure what the right size would be. Luckily they have a website so I may take a look at them again sometime. The employee was very friendly and welcoming offered to let me try on the jewelry that I was interested in. If I return to Door County I will surely be back and I'll be following their Instagram, too. I'm not sure if there is dedicated parking for this place, but there's lots of street parking since this is a pretty popular tourist destination.

A great time to visit is during the Plein Art Festival in July. The school sponsors this event which attracts artists from all over the country. So fun to watch them work their magic! I have taken everything…read morefrom beginner's pottery, watercolor and oil to more advanced painting ( as I gained more experience). The instructors are great - all are accomplished artists in their own right and many teach at the college level - but to the person they have been friendly, helpful and oh-so-kind in their critiques. I guess it's Door County rubbing off - but the fellow students have been great, too. Friendly and open. By the first afternoon, the jitters go away and everyone starts talking and helping out - from offering gentle suggestions to sharing supplies. Hands down the best experience I have had in taking art classes- and I keep coming back for more!
