I stayed here for a wedding and I have to admit it is a wee Lake District gem. It's just up the hill from the centre of Bowness and there is parking at the hotel so no need to stress about trying to get parked in town.
Rooms are spacious - I was in a twin room which had a decent sized bathroom. Shower was over the bath but separate controls - no messing about with the taps which was great. Plenty of wardrobe space, good sized room with chair and tables (plus tea and coffee) and little balcony, accessible from patio doors. Not really used in October, but it would be handy on a summer's night.
As part of the wedding, we ate in Room One-o-One, the hotel's upmarket restaurant. The food was excellent, with a crab and lobster starter, guinea fowl main and panacotta pud. All dishes were cooked to perfection and packed full of flavour - surprising for a hotel restaurant as often dishes can be a bit 'meh' and over priced. The service from staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast is in the main dining room - a huge selection of cereals, continential breakfast items and a full English you can help yourself to. I was pleased to find they offered gluten free bread toasted :)
I was booked into the Burnside as part of the wedding but I'm currently investigating it for a return visit as I would like to explore Bowness and the Lakes further. I did notice that some people were registered as having KGB deals for £49.50 for a room and breakfast so that would be a great option. There are lovely grounds too - looking out over the Lakes and there is also a leisure centre. Sadly I did not have the chance to try the pool and the jacuzzi but other guests used the facilities so worth taking swimming gear with you.
I would return to the Burnside again - lovely hotel in a great location with nice friendly staff making it a great place to spend a few days. read more
