He is not a dress up person and was supposed to be wearing something casual. They put him in a suit which was not what he wanted. On the day of the wake/funeral I arrived and none of the staff greeted me. Eventually when someone showed up it was to take my coat and then disappeared. When my brothers set it up we were supposed to have two of us do eulogies as well as a priest. They did a horrible job before the wake started and didn't introduce themselves or ask about the family. (Just ushered them in the room where my Dad was and I was already in there and spent the whole wake. When it came time for the eulogies and the priest, the priest was the only one who introduced himself and asked things about my Dad. The priest did an amazing job summing up my Dads life and blessing him. After that someone came in (Remember NOBODY from Keefe even introduced themselves.) came in and announced the service was over and to head outside for the procession to the cemetery. Then to make matters worse they didn't have the family members go first, they just waved everyone on. At the cemetery they didn't even tell everyone where to pull up and park. Again the person from Keefe just announced the priest was going to do a quick prayer and announced where we were going afterward. So unprofessional and I will never use or recommend this place to anyone. So unprofessional and uncaring. My Dads final day was horrible. Wish I could give zero stars.

In the case of my cousin, who died unexpectedly in his 30s, the tragedy was even greater. The circumstances and logistics involved in arranging for a very small friends and family gathering were significantly more complex, but Timothy, Keefe, and the entire team at Keefe Funeral Home went above and beyond to support our family. My only face-to-face contact was with Timothy, and all I can say is what a delightful, authentic and truly warm and caring individual. The option for wake from 3-7 was ideal on a Sunday night and Church at 11. My mother passed on Thursday but Arlington cemetery requires 2 days for which they originally said they were not going to accommodate us with burial Monday. Kevin Comeau was extremely accommodating and a tremendous comfort during a very difficult time. He made the numerous decisions ahead of me very easy to navigate through. Before I knew it we had the frame work of honoring my Dad all laid out. The rest of his staff couldn't have been kinder to our Family throughout the course of our arrangements. Professionalism personified from start to finish. Having made most of the arrangements in advance I was told all I needed to do was pick up the phone when the time came. That phone call was met with a nearly immediate response with kindness and respect. It put into motion a wave of compassion and kind respect for my Dad and our Family. The Funeral Home we used for the rest of our Family has changed hands and left us disappointed. No such disappointments here. The home itself is a beautifully preserved old home that accommodated our needs perfectly. In conclusion I am very pleased with the service we received and will not hesitate for one second to use this Service again. This review represents reflections on what was a very sad turn of events for my Family. Making Funeral arrangements for someone you love is never easy but you can expect gentle, professional care if you make the right choice to come here. And then he shut down the conversation. My family left the building, but my aunt went back to retrieve a pair of glasses that were left behind. When she returned to the building, she heard the employee that was helping us stating that we were cheap and did not want to spend money on our passed relative. We felt very disrespected at such a trying and vulnerable time. We would never give our business to a place that disrespects their clients in such a manner. We felt as if our culture and religious customs were being disrespected. It was borderline racist. Would never come here again.

His passing was unexpected and unplanned but DeVito was a big support every step of the way. When I first made calls to I had narrowed it down to DeVito's Watertown location and another local funeral home that my neighbors had used over the years. No other funeral home I talked to made me feel that way. Any question I had I could easily email them and I would get an answer promptly. Jonathon was a huge support They were open about costs and no surprise billing I had been warned about at other funeral homes, and it was easy to stay in budget while simultaneously giving my father the send off he deserved. After a glance at Yelp reviews, we settled on DeVito because the other funeral home that had been mentioned by the police had one star. I am, however, slightly suspicious about a place that gets only five star reviews as well. I gave three stars because I can concur with other reviewers that the men we worked with were generally professional, responsive, and honest. Our family had some unique unexpected needs such as concern that a wedding ring had been lost, and DeVito did attend to these needs, which was much appreciated. The family clearly has a lot of experience in the business. If you have experience with death and are looking to do things in a fairly expected and "normal" way, this could be a good funeral home for you to choose. If this is your first experience with a funeral home, and if you approach death in any way that is less typical, or if you are needing a lot of patience and handholding, I would not recommend DeVito based on our experience. From when we initially chose not to do an immediate service in a funeral home, did not need assistance in writing an obituary, and did not want a special urn, and would be doing a celebration of life later, we felt that we were treated differently from the five star reviewers who might have done things more traditionally. I am now embarrassed at my ignorance, but at the time we did not realize that as a decorated Vietnam veteran, my dad was entitled to certain honors and benefits. While the gentleman we worked with was certainly aware of this because he asked us for the necessary information, including veteran status, in order to fill out forms, nothing was mentioned to us about these benefits. Perhaps this was because we were choosing not to do a traditional burial and other related elements, but this omission added to a general feeling of lack of respect in the tone toward us. The site says that they are available 24 hours. When I called late at night, feeling overwhelmed and concerned about some of the arrangements, expecting I would receive an answering service if no one was available, I was greeted by someone who sounded annoyed by being awakened and was not particularly helpful in that tough moment. Then this person said something to my family later about my late night call, which I feel should have been treated confidentially. All of this certainly was not helpful at such a tender time for my family. This funeral home clearly has a great deal of experience and is able to handle things expeditiously and professionally. But taking care of people's needs in the midst of one of the most difficult experiences they will ever have requires a level of heartfelt patience and support that I simply did not feel from DeVito. It seems from the reviews others did feel this in their experiences, which suggests to me that we may simply be outliers. But I still felt it was important to share this review. Even if someone makes different decisions from a more typical customer or if the people in the business do not agree with these decisions or understand them,,that customer of course still should be treated with the utmost respect under these circumstances. Instead, what we experienced was an undercurrent of feeling held at arm's length and as if we were an annoyance rather than customers who deserved compassion and care. While for funeral home operators death may be everyday business, for the one going through the passing of a loved one it is anything but that. You deserve to have a gentle tone and nonjudgmental respect of your decisions in this very demanding moment. I will always remember my dad as someone who communicated clearly and spoke with great respect for others but was also honest and not afraid to speak up when something was not as it should be. I seek to emulate him in writing this review. If you are uncertain about your choice, I highly recommend consulting with a local clergy member for recommendations of a funeral home that will provide genuine compassionate care at this challenging time. Finally, if you are reading this, although I don't know you, I am so sorry for what you're going through, and I want to let you know that you are not alone, and that you will find strength and comfort through the days ahead. While it may still be very hard, there is a light that will continue to guide you forward. You will make it through this and continue, in some way that is hard to explain, to have an ongoing relationship with your loved one, even if they are not here with you in the same way. They will always be with you, and nothing can take their love away from you or vice versa. I wish you much comfort and that you would feel surrounded by tangible love and clear guidance in your next steps. Bless you and your family.
