There are so many things to see and do, but the things that I liked: Quite a few places to sit and plenty of shaded areas. There are tables where people were eating at while enjoying the views. A giant hedge maze A sign out front touting more than 7,500 plant species and displaying some of them. There was a globe thistle there that I was particularly fascinated by Quite a few water features including a few lakes, some ponds, and a waterfall depending on the season. The first one we ran into from the Visitor Center was Livingstone Lake which is quite picturesque filled with water lilies A vegetable garden area with edible plants. This part is not very big but I always appreciate the food portion of botanical gardens. The great lawn which is seriously massive and contains islands of different flowers including Hydrangeas and Azaleas. There's so much to explore here. I thought we did a speed run through it and still took 2.5 hours. My family scores: Brendan - 4.3 Charlotte - 4.3 Shanying - 4.0 Winston - 5.0

Every angle and vista is beautifully framed, like a piece of art. No matter where you walk in the garden, there are no bad views. The largest green space on Granville Island which is named after a prominent Canadian politician…read morewho initiated a transition of the island from an industrial area to an area more oriented towards people. Before Ron Basford Park was created, this park area and all of present day Granville Island was a mud flat that would disappear completely in high tide. It was only until 1913 that an alderman convinced the Federal Government in Ottawa to redevelop the mudflat into a man made island which is now called Granville Island. When I used to work near Granville Island, I would walk or jog to this park on my breaks if the weather was nice and have lunch or dinner from the meals that I would get from Granville Island Public Market. It's a super chill area to relax/de-stress and get some fresh air/sunshine and the man made hill provides a wonderful view of Granville Island, Yaletown and False Creek. During the winter time, this is a fun spot for those who want to use their crazy carpet sleds and toboggans. Just make sure you don't slide down the hill that faces False Creek for safety reasons.

I'm always tempted to roll back down, barrel-style, but there are benches and pathways cutting across the grade, so that's probably not the smartest idea. The backside of the hill, facing the water has also been gently stepped to create a natural ampitheatre. They have events here, apparently, although I've never caught one. Seems like it would be a cool place to watch local magicians or musicians or what have you, because one thing Vancouver sorely lacks is quality street entertainers.
