At first, I was a little intimidated as I had only read about it in glossy magazines as the new 'place to be seen' in Dublin. Frequented by the likes of top models Rosanna Davison, Amanda Byram and Sarah McGovern (they looked after her hair and make up for her recent wedding), I was a tad petrified they would take one look at me and point their perfectly manicured finger towards the nearest exit. But after doing a little research into the place, I was quite intrigued. After learning it was run by top hairdresser Mark O'Keefe and his make up artist wife Paula, I decided to give it a go. They've been working in the industry for years and years and have loads of big profile clients. If it's good enough for Rosanna and the girls, it's good enough for me I thought to myself! I started going to the salon in South William St first and although it's a little pricey (app €150 for a half head highlights and €45 for a blow dry), it's not hugely more expensive compared to the likes of Toni&Guy. The difference in Brown Sugar is that the service is amazing - the staff are excellent, you can enjoy a glass of wine/champagne/beer and the massage chairs in the wash area are to die for! They also apply make up (€50) and give make up lessons (price on request) and after numerous appointments, I can vouch that the girls do a fantastic job - you leave a shinier, happier, glossier version of yourself! When my fantastic stylist Orla moved to their newly opened Blackrock salon, I followed suit and the new salon is just as glamorous and relaxing. I really cant recommend it enough. So, if like me, getting your hair or make up done is a real treat, then get yourself into Brown Sugar sharpish. This is definitely a case of 'you get what you pay for.' The service is the best in Dublin.

The man who washed my hair was so lovely, a really down to earth chap (I didn't get his name!). Dan then discussed what I wanted from my haircut and then made suggestions as to what he thought might work better. I asked for a bare trim (I am growing out my hair) and for I think the first time ever, a stylist actually listened to what I wanted and didn't snip away inches in a flash! He put a beautiful shape and finish to my hair, then the gorgeous and sweet Shelly blow-dried it. The wash, cut and blow-dry altogether cost €48 - not cheap but not too expensive either, and I don't think anyone minds paying a fair price for an amazing service. Noteworthy; all of the staff are extremely gentle when dealing with one's hair. Too often I have had my scalp hurting me after leaving a hair salon, but Dan informed me that the ethos in the salon is to be very very gentle with the hair at all times, and I have to say it is refreshing! Also, there was no product pushing. I think I have finally found my perfect hair stylist and will definitely be returning!

But they are enjoying a resurgence in popularity once more, as their prices remained lower than their newer competitors, and they are currently offering 20% off all cuts, all over Ireland. The branch in Blackrock is small and friendly, with a loyal customer base who've been coming here for years.

I am so delighted with the chop I got almost 2 months ago now and the shape has stayed so nicely. Lisa did a fantastic job. She listened to what I was saying, made some suggestions and I ended up with a fab hair do and a massive grin on my face. The staff are all lovely. The place is comfortable. I cannot recommend Reputations enough. I've been sending all my friends there because I think they are just wonderful and my friends have all had a great experience there too.
