We walked in the front door on a "let's check this place out" and into the bar area. The door to the dining room was opened and we were effusively welcomed by 3 people. This in spite of my ratty appearance after walking for 3+ miles and sweating. I do look like an American tourista. We looked at the menu and said: "Yes!" This was impeccable food and service. Wine: Agusto Toreilo Mata bubbly (€30). Green apple, fresh. Amuse bouche: Three items: croquette with cheese and shrimp, shrimp, a sweet wafer of fruit Starter: Grilled red peppers with paper thin slices of bacon. You could see thru the bacon. The peppers had a bit of smoke. The flavors blended together perfectly. Salad: Tracie was craving a "green" salad so the chef created one for her. Lettuce, tomato, hard-cooked egg, olives, shaved fennel (€16). She devoured it. Special Starter del dia: Scrambled eggs with truffles. A hollowed out baguette was toasted and then filled with creamy scrambled eggs. I loved it as the truffles were mild. Main ( for the wife): Whole lobster, grilled. A 1kg lobster. Main (for the husband): Chipirones encebollas. You know how I am when baby squid are on the menu. Just the right size portion and so delicious. Postre: Chocolate cake with mint sorbet and raspberries. Wines: Bubbly and Niepoort white port. "Post" Postre: What? Yes, they served a dessert after the dessert. The ending amuse bouche. Three tiny dessert items of chocolate. Digestifs: Then, out came the liquors: Patxaran (a local specialty made from fruit) and its green, herbal cousin. And, then. Yes, there is more. They gave us a 1L bottle of the house patxaran in a fancy gift bag. + "The boss", Iñaki Idoate, kept showing me how to get the perfect bite for each food item. It was charming. + Single-use toothbrushes in the komuna. I used one. + Cloth table coverings and cloth napkins. + Hefty Dalia flatware which was changed out for every course. + Villeroy & Boch plates. + AMEX - Oops. There are none. €183 for lunch for 2 and more than worth it.

Portions are generous. Flavors are big and balanced. Just delicious, whether seafood or meat or vegetables. We had scallops in a deep seafood stock, grilled hake with Thai infused coconut milk and lobster oil, and classic Indian butter chicken. Each dish outstanding on its own, all from one kitchen is wow. Presentation is thoughtful and beautiful. Vibe is cool without trying to be cool. Feels relaxed. Fun music playing without being loud or intrusive. Staff are fun and friendly and precise in their care. And to take it all to the next level was our host, Cesar. Not just thoughtful and welcoming but his passion for each dish and the care and thought that goes into them was obvious. His joy is genuine and we appreciated him sharing details with us so we could be part of the fun. In a city with so much wonderful food, La Madame stands out because it is a sit down restaurant, serving fresh and inspired and delicious food, with care and creativity and obsessive detail and pure happiness. Make a reservation, it's worth it. And take in the joy Cesar shares with you through every dish.

Good Many people had…read moresaid this place was amazing. The service was really good. The Scallops and Hamburger were really good from what the people in our group ordered. The scallops were a main course but only had 5 scallops not starch or vegetables, great flavor. So both that ordered the scallops thought they should be more to the dish. The large prawns from Ecuador influence was delicious with basil and peanut sauce. Everyone said the Indian influenced butter chicken was best dish of the night. The pork potsticker from Vietnam Was really nice. The waiter we had took us on a great food journey during the description. The cocktails were great with a nice variety. The Bad: My group had a 4 star experience I had a 3 star experience. To start we were a party of 6 and they only brought 3 menus and they asked me for my order before I was even able to look at the menu. So having to wait on looking at the menu was rather rude in my opinion each customer should get a menu. So started off with a negative. Especially since they were asking us to order when 2-3 people hadn't even looked at the menu. The waiter should let everyone know to share the menus when they only bring three menus for a party of 6. I ordered the Wellington 2.0 It should be called .5 For me it wasn't an improvement on a beef Wellington it was not even half a beef Wellington. It was a take on Beef Wellington. But the puff pastry was an after thought that didn't even cover the top of my steak. They said the steak would be medium and recommended that. It was just below medium rare very blood. The broccoli was cooked okay but not really seasoned. I had never had parsnips but figured I would try something new it had foie Gras, also so I now know this combination is not for me. See photos So I don't recommend Wellington 2.0 Unless you just very rare medium rare, with parsnip purées and foie Gras.

Muy bien! A simple selection of fish and a long list of starters. They also had an English menu,…read morewhich was nice. We got the fried peppers (pimientos verdes), fish soup, monkfish, and rice pudding. Everything was delicious. Our original plan was just to get one appetizer and then two different fish mains. But our waitress told us the monkfish was huge and definitely enough for two people to share. So we started with the peppers, then got the monkfish, and figured we'd order more if we were still hungry. The peppers were delicious, and the monkfish really was a good portion for two. It was super simple, like most Spanish seafood I've had so far. Just some herbs and lemon, but mostly letting the flavor of the fish speak for itself. Afterwards, I got the rice pudding for dessert and my boyfriend ordered the fish soup, which was technically another starter. I liked the rice pudding. It had a strong cinnamon flavor. But honestly, the fish soup was my favorite part of the whole meal. It was super flavorful and even had clams in it. The taste reminded me of the sauce that comes with Thai roti. So good. We left full and happy. There was a funny moment at the end when we tried to pay. The card reader wouldn't connect to the internet, so the waitress started waving it around in the air and walking into different rooms to get a signal. We tried scanning the card like three or four times. Finally, another waiter came over and connected the card reader to his phone's hotspot, and it worked. I'd definitely recommend Telesforo if you're visiting Zarautz. I'd suggest making a reservation ahead of time, even just a few hours before. It's one of the few places that opens for dinner a bit "early" at 8 PM. When we got there right at 8, we were the only ones in the restaurant. Right at 9 PM, the locals came in, kids and all. I guess because it's summer and the sun sets late, but still. That's way past my bedtime.

My experience at Telesforo went beyond my imagination. We were the first to take a table at just after 1 pm, and by the time we left at 3, the entire restaurant was full! Easy to see why. We started with the asparagus, which was good; then the fried green pimentos, which were delicious; followed by a mixed salad with mushrooms that was excellent... I joked that each course superseded the previous, and then they brought out the main dishes and I knew I was correct! The squid in its own ink was so rich and delicious I couldn't resist mopping up the sauce with bread. My companion had the grilled squid, which didn't have the incredibly moist, melt-in-your-mouth quality of my squid, but rather had such a crisp, smoky grilled flavor that I couldn't decide which I liked better. The two of us shared and cleaned up both plates, which left no room for dessert but we settled for coffees. The whole price at the end was entirely reasonable, much less than we would have ended up paying for an equivalent experience in the US. We will never forget this meal and I would come back in a heartbeat!
