This Burger King is located in a Welcome Break facility off the M6. I thought this particular restaurant within the motorway facility deserved it's own review.
On a road trip to Stafford we decided to pull over for a break and to get something to eat. It was only 10.15am and instead of eating breakfast like normal people my partner wanted KFC. The Burger King and the KFC are located upstairs and as has been noted on a review of this motorway facility, it doesn't seem to be very disabled friendly. There is an escalator up but I only noted flights of stairs to go back down to the ground floor.
At the Burger King counter the first thing I noticed was how extensive the menu at BK has become...the next thing I noticed was the price! Holy COW! I had a Bacon Double Cheeseburger Large Meal and it cost £8.59. When my partner noticed the price I just said "I suppose motorway places are like airports and charge more". I am just assuming that is the case because I haven't been to a Burger King in several years. He had the same meal I ordered so the cheque was £17.18 in total. The server was very polite and helpful, asking if we wanted dips or sauces after handing us our food.
The area where the BK is located is huge, there weren't many patrons yet, but there was a baby station with a microwave to warm up formula and a changing station. If we had a baby it would have been very helpful. The area was so clean! No crumbs on the tables and chairs, no trash anywhere, just a pristine area.
We chose a seat and opened the bags containing our meal and were blown away. Seriously shocked at the enormity of what we purchased. The hamburgers must have measured 5 or 6" in diameter and 3" high, double meat patty, bacon & lovely cheese and a soft sesame seed bun, the bag also included a smaller bag of onion rings and a bag of "fries". The fries were a hybrid - somewhere between normal chips and McDonalds french fries. My most recent experience with American style fast food would be McDonalds in Stockport, where our food is always room temperature and the fries are always cold and soggy. The difference in quality between what we ate at a common motorway services BK yesterday was worlds apart.
The Burger King at Keele is the way fast food is in dreams. I never expect to enjoy fast food, it just fills a space and keeps me from feeling hungry while the repeating heartburn for several hours usually has me swearing off fast food forever. Not from this Burger King. It was hot, fresh, tasty and there was way too much of it. We vowed that if we had the occasion to stop there again we will know to split one meal between the two of us.
We also noticed after our meal that this facility takes recycling to a new level. Four huge, clean bins dividing up not just paper and glass but also food and liquids. It must be attended to often and cleaned regularly because the bins were not obtrusive and offputting as you would think something like that would be.
I wish we lived closer to this facility, not just to have the Burger King again, but to maybe try a few of the other places to see if they offer the same quality of food and service. read more
