I had a craving for Burger King so I went in on a weekday evening and ordered the new Double Rodeo with fries and Coke. Burger King is only a couple of shops away from McDonalds in Slough. I took a peek in McDonalds (I would never eat in one) and saw that it was packed full of shoppers. Burger King on the other hand had no queue at all. There was one manager, one customer service guy (a freshie) and a someone out back doing the cooking. Yet Burger King is a much larger store than McD in Slough.
First things first: the service. There were a couple of issues that need addressing but generally my experience was nowhere near as bad as other reviewers' here. Perhaps I was lucky. The manager took my order; he spoke clearly and understood easily. Then, the customer service guy looked at my ticket and said something very fast. I didn't understand the Tamil freshie at all, though he seemed to have a good attitude. I received my food fairly quickly. Incidentally the restaurant had a few customers who seemed to be freshies spending a Vestern evening out. Yet the cleanliness wasn't bad at all, surprisingly. So no doubt they keep it clean.
This is a review of a specific store, not Burger King food in general. However, even fast food joints like McDonalds and Burger King differ in the quality of their offerings. At this Burger King, there was insufficient barbecue sauce placed in my burger. That, and the cheese slice wasn't melted at all. In effect, the Double Rodeo was just two burgers placed in a bap with a sliced of processed cheese and two onion rings. The whole thing needed salt and some kind of thousand island or mayo-based sauce. The bap had a distinct 'defrosted in microwave' crumbliness, and there was no salt in the fries nor was salt supplied in a packet. The food needs a lot more work. Burger King may be 'fast food' but it's by no means 'cheap food'. At this price range it's competing with Indian, Chinese, Thai and Arab restaurants in town. For Slough, cheap fast food is of the independent £1.50 2-piece-chicken-and-chips-with-Coke variety. BK costs about £6 for a rather small 'meal' so it needs to step up the quality of its food at this store.
EDIT: Feb 2016 revisit. They've got their act together and fixed the food! Huge difference... Service and food quality are more than up to scratch now. Just keeping the tables and surfaces clean would make it worthy of 5 stars. This is actually one of the best BK branches currently. read more
