We stopped at Kretchzsky BBQ in Caro with a group of four... two adults and two kids…read more Unfortunately, this was a disappointing experience from beginning to end, and based on what we experienced, I wouldn't return. The overall experience This is a counter service BBQ joint. You order at the counter, your food comes in styrofoam containers, and you get your own plastic silverware. That's not necessarily a problem by itself, but when you're paying more than $80 for four people and aren't getting sides with most of the meals, the overall value starts to become an issue. There is also an upcharge for paying with a credit card. I paid cash because of that, but I don't like seeing businesses add a fee simply for using a card. More concerning was the lack of understanding when we asked about gluten free options. We had someone in our group with celiac disease, and the person taking our order didn't seem to understand what a gluten allergy or cross contamination actually means. That made us very uncomfortable about what could safely be eaten. If you have celiac disease or a serious gluten allergy, I would strongly recommend asking detailed questions and being very cautious here. Then we found out they had no ice, and most of the fountain drinks were unavailable. There wasn't a single diet drink available, which was particularly frustrating because three people in our group are diabetic. They did have 20 ounce bottles of Faygo available from a refrigerator for $2 each, but there were still no diet options. The sauce situation When our food arrived, none of our meals came with BBQ sauce. I've eaten at a lot of BBQ restaurants, and I honestly can't remember ever being served BBQ without sauce being available with the meal. I went back to the counter and asked if we were supposed to get sauce. I was told no. I then asked for some and was told it was $2 per small dipping cup. All four of us wanted two sauces, which would have been another $8 on top of an already expensive meal. I explained that I've never been to a BBQ restaurant that didn't provide at least some sauce with the order. The response was essentially, "OK." That was the final straw for me. Charging extra for a tiny cup of BBQ sauce when you're already charging what I consider a premium price for the food is simply not something I'm interested in supporting. Now, the food. I ordered a full rack of ribs with mac and cheese and coleslaw. I specifically requested the ribs without BBQ sauce so I could have sauce on the side but got no sauce. The ribs were, unfortunately, some of the worst I've had at a BBQ restaurant. They had very little smoke flavor, were extremely fatty and soggy, and didn't have the texture I'd expect from properly smoked ribs. There was also no noticeable smoke ring. While a smoke ring by itself doesn't prove whether ribs were properly smoked, combined with the extremely faint smoke flavor, it certainly left me questioning how long they had actually been on the smoker. Properly smoked ribs should have rendered much more of the excess fat, and a good BBQ operation should generally trim excessive fat before cooking. These ribs just didn't taste or eat like ribs that had been properly smoked. The mac and cheese was underwhelming. The coleslaw was actually good in flavor, although it was on the dry side. The pulled pork sandwich was OK nothing particularly special. The pulled chicken was dry. The pulled pork itself was average at best. Overall: The food was disappointing, the value was poor, the drink selection was extremely limited, the lack of understanding regarding celiac disease was concerning, and having to pay extra for BBQ sauce was the final strike for me. We spent more than $80 for four people, with only one person ordering sides, and still would have had to spend another $8 just to have enough BBQ sauce for everyone. I don't mind paying good money for good BBQ. In fact, I'll happily pay more when the quality justifies it. But at this price point, I expect better food, better service, better options, and a much better overall experience. Unfortunately, Kretchzsky BBQ missed the mark for us, and I won't be making a return visit.

After lunch, it's easy to spend some time walking around, grabbing ice cream, checking out the nearby thrift shop, or just relaxing on one of the shaded benches under the trees and enjoying the small-town atmosphere. The restaurant itself has a cool bar vibe with dark wood, automotive-themed décor, and plenty of Detroit-inspired burger names. Even on a Friday afternoon, the place was busy with people enjoying drinks, so I can definitely see it being a popular hangout. The service was excellent. Our waitress was attentive, checked on us often, and kept our pop refills coming without us ever having to ask. Our food arrived quickly, hot, and fresh. The burgers were large, juicy, and had some creative topping combinations. I ordered one topped with a fried egg, expecting the yolk to add richness like it usually does on a burger, but the egg was completely cooked through with no runny yolk at all, so it didn't really add much. Overall, I found the burgers to be underseasoned. They looked great, but the flavor was a little flat and could have used more seasoning. The waffle fries were crispy and probably my favorite part of the meal. I also ordered a side of cheese sauce to dip them in, but it was so thick and gelatinous that I couldn't even get a fry into it, which was disappointing. We also ordered the corned beef egg rolls, which were very greasy. The outside was crispy, but the wrapper was thick and a bit doughy inside. The house-made ranch, however, was excellent and paired well with the fries. For three burgers, one appetizer, three pops, and about a $100 bill, I expected the food to wow me a little more. It wasn't bad by any means, I just wasn't as impressed as I expected based on all the rave reviews. If the food had a little more seasoning and the egg rolls, cheese sauce, and overall execution were improved, I'd enjoy it much more. I'd still give it another try, especially for the atmosphere, location, and outstanding service.

The bar was quiet, calm, dark and cold but seemed like a chill vibe. Our waitress was okay, service was quick and she did her job well but didn't smile and wasn't very talkative or seemingly friendly. We asked what her favorite appetizers were and we ordered the Loaded Potato Balls based on her recommendation - they were great! 10/10! Loaded with flavor, very moist and served with 3 sauces - ranch, spicy ranch and sour cream. The ranch and spicy ranch were not great - tastes like they're bottled not homemade. The sour cream though, that was a good compliment. We both ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich - 10/10! They're hand breaded, juicy and tender chicken breasts topped with lettuce, tomato and mayo on a perfectly warm brioche bun. Our meal was served so hot, it was perfect. I would absolutely go back just for this sandwich! The homemade chips for the side were great, crispy and lightly seasoned. I had the tater tots with mine and they tasted freezer burnt, wouldn't get them again. We also had a side of their house made coleslaw and it was perfect, ice cold and a great balance of flavor. Draft beer wasn't super cold - it would be better served in a frosted glass. Overall- it's good, we'd come again! Next time we'd sit at the bar top as the bartenders seemed to enjoy more casual conversation and friendly vibes with their customers.

I've been there twice now…read more First night (Saturday) there was very loud, derogatory rap music playing. Families with kids eat there, they should not have to hear stuff like that. It was very hard to communicate with the server due to the noise. The actual menu is a lot smaller then what is shown on their website. Especially fish options. I had grouper tenders which were small and mostly breading. Not worth it. Fries were excellent. Tartar sauce appeared to be pure mayo, no sign of relish or lemon at all. Ketchup, mustard, and salt were the only condiments on the table, not sure if anything else was available, like cider vinegar or even pepper. It's a pub, you would think all that stuff to be automatic. Second night (9 pm Sunday) I tried to go elsewhere because of my previous night's experience, but not many other options. Most of Alma was already closed. Tonight there was no music playing, so I was able to have a conversation. I had the olive burger with steak fries, my son had boneless wings with Thai sauce and waffle fries. Everything was very good, and a good value for the money. I guess I need a third night to be a tie-breaker.
