By pure chance, we ended up choosing a well-known local restaurant. The calamari was very good -- proper, full-sized squid rings with a relatively light coating. After being battered by a downpour, it was exactly the kind of thing you want to calm yourself down with: fat and protein. The hamburger was also very well made. During happy hour, the value for money was especially good, and it came with grilled vegetables, which made the whole meal feel surprisingly well balanced. It was my first time trying Country Fried Steak. My companion was not really a fan, but after looking it up later, I realized that it is a distinctly American comfort food. Well... had I not already been full, I probably could have helped him out with half of it. The onion rings that came as a side also looked excellent -- big, substantial rings, not those tiny chain-restaurant ones that almost look like calamari. The Caesar Salad was very good too. I did not use much of the dressing, but honestly, the cheese and vegetables were already enough for me. To sum it up, if time allowed, I would probably replace the hamburger with something more distinctly local next time. To be fair, we had barely eaten anything for about 12 hours before walking in, so we were not exactly in the mood to take risks. And as it turned out, spending more than $50 on a two-person bowl at the stadium was nowhere near as satisfying as holding out a little longer for a genuinely good local meal in the Kansas City area -- with a beer on top of that. Absolutely worth it.

In my opinion, $22 for an Easter brunch buffet should mean hot food that won't run out. Unfortunately that wasn't the case. Our party of 10 arrived at 11:00am and all of the food in the buffet was cold. Even when they'd bring more of a certain item to replace on the buffet line, it wasn't warm. The only item that was hot was the prime rib at the carving station. Being pregnant, I felt extremely uncomfortable eating cold buffet food due to the increased risk of food poisoning, so I wasn't able to enjoy much beyond the room temperature biscuits and the last scrapings of the white gravy along with some green beans that were warmish. Defintely not worth the $22 a person. They also ran out of carrot cake on Easter of all holidays, which was a disappointment. We probably won't be back for a buffet at Sandy's, which is a shame because our family has eaten their Mother's Day buffet several times and it had been fine (not stellar, but fine). Also, just a personal opinion, but the constant use of bad AI pictures on their Facebook is so cringey. The Boomers might like it, but the younger crowd sees this sort of stuff and thinks "yikes." We'd rather see real pictures of your real food, not a cartoon depiction.

Service was great as always. Nice people, and the food came out just as fast as it needed to. No complaints here. As for the meal itself, it was the expected standard. Good bun, good patty, good toppings. Fries and cheese curds made for excellent sides. And that concrete dessert they offer might be the best treat like that you can get through any drive-thru in the country. So overall, no this isn't a Michelin Star joint that's earning five stars.
