I called to order and received a busy signal. I then drove to try this place. Got there and after waiting 10 minutes owner asked if I called in the order. I stated, I tried but received a busy signal. He said, that's because I took the phone off the hook and wasn't taking anymore orders.. like wow! What a rude person. This guy must think his burgers are made of gold.. so I drove to hwy 55 and took my business else where. Won't ever try this place again or refer it based on this experience.. this guy needs to learn about customer service before he starts losing them one at a time. read more

Now that was a mighty tasty burger. I found myself camping in Athens with friends. While I love the great outdoors, I was craving something other than hot dogs and chips, so got to exploring the area. I found The Burger Barn and figured I'd give it a try. We drove past this place 3 times since we thought it was a sit down restaurant. It's not, it's a walk up burger shack in front of a convenience store. We arrived at 1:50PM and he was closing at 2PM, so he wasn't super happy that we had such a big order. We ordered our food and waited at one of the benches outside with our kids. Finally the burgers and tots were done... I'll say it again. That was a mighty tasty burger. You can tell when the food is good because it gets quiet. Not one person was saying a word except for an occasional wow. The burger was cooked to perfection, it was tender and had all of the fixins. The burger is so big it takes an effort to take a solid bite. I was up for the challenge. I don't find myself in Athens often, but if and when I'm back, I will for sure come to this place again. I have been wanting to try this place since we moved to the area. I finally made time to do it. After reading reviews I was concerned but after meeting Bob and talking to him I was pleasantly glad he was a nice enough guy to get my business. Food was delicious and at a fair price. Prices have gone up. (But what prices haven't) if you're in the area give him a try. He does except debit cards and there is not a place to sit to eat FYI! read more

Thought I would try this place. Tried calling in my order but no answer. When I arrived, I waited for about 8 minutes before I was rudely greeted by the owner. He asked if I called in the order? I said "I tried but couldn't get thru." He responded, "only taking call in orders and the phone was off the hook for a reason, and he can't take my order." I was stunned! I Drove to try his food and he turned me away. He acted like he would be doing me a favor by allowing me the privilege to try his burger. What a waste of a trip. The Burger Barn sits next to the general store but they're not associated the General Store will let you go in and eat your burger in there I'm eating mine in the car.. it's your basic Old Fashioned Burger cooked well done served with piping hot fries. It's what a Texas Soldier would dream about in some foreign desert. It tastes good and it's good for the soul made by a Christian businessman who does nothing but Farm build burgers between 11 and 2 everyday but Sunday. read more

Went out on a limb to this location. I'm always a sucker for places like this and I'm super glad I did. I been in Athens for over a year now, and I can safely say this is the best burger I had in this city. The portions are very generous, the fries are great, and the burgers are fresh. The prices are more than reasonable for what you're getting. It's a shame there isn't more places like this in Athens. Also they do accept Debit/Credit now. read more

By far, the absolute best hamburger you will find in this area. Cash is preferred, but he will take debit cards. Kind of clunky with the little card reader that plugs into his Iphone, but it works. Hours are sporadic so make sure you know if he's open or not. Well worth the extra few minutes vs. the other burger joints in town. You won't be disappointed. read more

The guy that owns this place and cooks the food for it is a total asshole. He knows nothing about customer service whatsoever. He just now almost ran into my vehicle leaving the parking lot. It was totally his fault and instead of apologizing he peeled out and cussed me out and slung rocks all over my car! What kind a business owner does that?! And this is not the only thing that's ever happened with him! He has been rude every time I have ever went to his stand to purchase burgers. He will huff and puff and be rude the whole time you were ordering. Yes his burgers are good.? But his attitude makes the whole experience just not worth it. It's like somebody pisses in his Cheerios every single day. This makes him deserve no stars but I'll give him one Because zero stars is Review #2 So we went back to this burger barn and walked up to the window to order food and he was completely rude beyond belief again. The first words out of his mouth were "I'm busy so your going to have to wait!!!" And he said it in a mean and loud manner. Why???!?? Why is he so mean?! We kindly said ok no problem. After a few minutes he came to the window and said "What do you want?!" We ordered a burger, BLT, and some tots. He again in a rude & mean manner said "I'm really busy so it's going to be a long time before I can cook this!" And this grumpy mean man SLAMMED THE WINDOW SHUT IN OUR FACE!!!! Bob's Burger Barn makes an old fashioned hamburger that will take you back in time to the way burgers used to be made. In other words, fresh ground beef shaped by hand, seasoned perfectly, on a seasoned grill dating back 21 years. One third pound standard burger is a juicy "3 napkiner " with a hot bun, made the way you want it. If you can down the double patty one, then good luck because it's a humdoozer. Notice from the menu photos that he's got a good variety of different burgers going for him too. Also note that Bob keeps "unique hours, so note that from the hours photo shown. This place is a eat on a picnic table out back or take it to go situation. You don't go into Bob's, you stand outside and order, hence the picnic table or to go scenario. Also, Bob's is out in the middle of nowhere, way out in the country, corner of Hwy 59 @ 753, but if you're in the neighborhood or just want to hunt down one of the types of burgers that people talk about that are a rarity in this day and age, do yourself a favor and head on out. Note, Old Bob is closed on Sunday's, so don't go then, and write down the hours because they're weird. read more
