When you're on a Rhine River cruise you get to see so many castles along the river. I was quite curious about what visiting one would be like. I completely understand why our cruise company picked Lahneck Castle for us to visit because it's the total package. After gathering outside the gate we walked into the courtyard and it felt like stepping into a fairy tale. There were vines snaking their way up castle walls but instead of making it feel unkempt it accentuated the charm. When touring the primitive interior parts I loved that they had gone the extra mile and put out candles to light up the darkness. We got to see the small attached church and were shown the inner workings of an old lockbox. Other parts of the castle have a 'modern' interior that is wonderfully decorated. In fact for one part we had to wear booties over our shoes so that we wouldn't damage the wood floor. I found my whole visit here completely fascinating. Our river cruise was all inclusive so we didn't have to pay to come here. I remember being shocked when I happened to spot a sign listing what the admission prices were. Six Euros for this experience has to be the deal of the century. read more
