I wrote my review of the Castle Colmberg separate from the hotel and restaurant, and this review is on the restaurant in particular. Upon recent softening of the COVID-19 restrictions, we decided to resume our Friday outing group. One of the members suggested we try Colmberg restaurant. We were not disappointed. Since the weather is getting better, both indoor restaurant seating and outdoor biergarten are available. For lunch, reservations are not required. I'd suggest to make reservations if you're interested eating dinner, though. What a delightful dining experience we enjoyed together. I was thinking this would be another very casual dining for lunch as we are accustomed, but instead we were treated like dukes and duchess. Upon entering the hotel-restaurant entrance, we were greeted cheerfully and directed to the dining area. Since we were a group of five, they seated us in a corner table with bench seating and chairs. It was very roomy and nice with wall deco with hunting motif. I thought the menu was substantial offering some fancy Franconian dishes. One unique dish I noticed was venison. I haven't tried any venison since I arrived in Germany, and I jumped on this opportunity. It was really great. The fine red wine sauce and mushroom sauce were very tasty. Klößen (potato dumplings) were very good with the sauce. The rest of our group enjoyed our meal very much except perhaps the one who had salad with fried chicken. It lacked typical Franconian seasoned vegetables underneath the heap of lettuce leaves. Mango chutney was very sweet, perhaps too sweet. Overall, great dining experience with great service. It ended up about 17€ per person. read more

The food, views, and service here are amazing. We come here as a special treat when visiting family in Ansbach. The restaurant is in a castle that was renovated into a hotel and it has so much art and history on display. During the summer the courtyard seating is so beautiful and you can enjoy the extended twilight hours. This hotel also allows dogs, as do most places in Germany. The prices are a little high but you get really good quality food and service. The only downside is the parking, which can be very tight. I definitely recommend the Schnitzel and the Burgherrenspiess which is a beef skewer. Guten Appetit! read more

We were faced with a terrible decision when visiting Rothenburg for a day - do we stay right in the heart of one of the cutest towns we've ever seen, or do we drive about 20 minutes away to stay in a historic castle? We made the right choice - Burg Colmberg was such a great stay and experience. The hotel is so neat and they've done such a great job making it feel authentic. Our room was very nice. Wifi worked just fine. Staff were really friendly. Breakfast was great. And the price was really fair. We would absolutely stay here again in a heartbeat! read more

We stayed here for one night while touring this part of Germany. We were originally planning to stay in nearby Rothenburg, but when we saw we could stay in a castle for just a little more, we jumped at the chance. This place is a real, honest to goodness castle, and it did not disappoint. They also have a restaurant on premises. The main thing I remember is that this was a castle and the fact we were able to spend the night here was just beyond cool. I got to explore the castle a bit and found some old, historic areas in or near where guests stay, which really added to the place's authenticity. When you book with them you get a choice of rooms at different prices. We got probably the cheapest (a little over $100), which put us on the top (4th?) floor. This place has no elevator, so it was a bit of an adventure getting our bags to our room; I guess you get what you pay for. Our room had a nice view of the surrounding area and at one point we saw deer down below us next to the castle wall. While our room was a bit small, we were happy with it. Parking is difficult at this hotel; we couldn't drive up to the entrance to unload our stuff, not that we'd want to considering there's no place to turn around. So after we parked and taken our stuff up to the room, I really didn't want to drive into town for dinner, so we ate at the restaurant at the castle/hotel. The food was very good. I started with the spargel (white asparagus) soup and then had skewered beef. Both were very good, though it honestly was more food than I needed. My wife also enjoyed her food (I think she had chicken). The next morning, they had a typical German breakfast, though they did have a few unusual things you don't normally see at breakfast like pretzels. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay here. It was unique and memorable getting to stay in a castle. Also, when we were there (May 2017), they were starting construction, so in the future they should have even more rooms. Get your inner Knight or Princess on! We loved this place four years ago, and loved it just as much this visit. There are a growing number of castles to stay in throughout Germany. Oftentimes, however, they are "just another hotel" in the shell of a castle. Burg-Hotel Colmberg is different. Inside and outside it feels like you have stepped back in time. And there are a variety of rooms ranging from rustic to modern. It is family-run and the service is great, as are the onsite dining options. While you stay there, there is plenty to do in the area. Rothenburg ob der Tauber is a short drive from here, as are other family-friendly options like the Playmobil FunPark. With all of this, the pricing is honestly quite reasonable. Wonderful, absolutely wonderful! Didn't get to eat at restaurant as it was closed, oh well who cares? I was staying at a freaken castle!!! Was under construction but again at a freaken castle!!! It was beautiful! I felt like a princess! We had a smaller room, but it was perfect. Had a picture window with a ledge and windows that opened in. I crawled up and sat and enjoyed the view. Highly recommend, loved exploring the area and views. Even had a field with deer, could it be more perfect? No... read more

Castle Colmberg is an amazing and beautiful place to visit if you're ever in the area. I've been here a couple of times since my sister got married here and so we visited frequently. The staff were always friendly and happy to speek English. The food and wine are both amazing. It's decorated nicely and the location can't be beat. Except from the occasional creepy doll in a cot in the hallway, it's a beautiful place to visit whether for a full holiday or just for dinner. As I said - I would definitely recommend a visit to Berg Colmberg if you're ever in the area! read more

We first stayed at Castle Colmberg in the 80s, again in 2006, and most recently in April 2013. We have many great memories being here so it's a must any time we make it back to the area. How often can you say you've slept in a castle? The grounds are very quaint and peaceful with deer and other animals coming out to feed in the evening. The views are spectacular, although I could do without the golf course (don't believe it's associated with the hotel)! It is also close to both Rothenburg and Dinkelsbuhl, which are well worth the visit! We also did a day trip to Nurnberg from here. We had three adults staying in a room with a double bed and a fold out single. Needless to say things were tight, but how much time do you really stay in the room? There are some angled walls and wood beams that could be deadly if you are tall and have to get up in the middle of the night when its dark. You should also be prepared for a LOT of stairs, with no elevator. The bed was comfortable, even the fold out, and very clean. The bathroom was spacious and also very clean with a large shower, nice towels, and hair dryer provided. There is a German style heater in the bathroom which did a great job drying some clothes we washed in he sink. I also appreciate being able to open the window and let the fresh air in. It's so quiet and peaceful you could easily sleep with the windows open. We ate both breakfast and dinners here, and both were very good with a reasonable price for dinner. Be sure to make a reservation to dinner or they may not be able to serve you. Our only complaint is they never offered to seat us on the beautiful closed in sun terrace...that seemed to be reserved for the Germans only, which was disappointing. read more

Incredible! We left Munich and came here. The hotel was beautiful. The staff was incredible would recommend to anyone.
