The ruins of this castle in Baden-Baden built in 1100 are a popular day out destination. It's a nice walk/drive up to the ruins themselves, and there is a café, serving tea, coffee and cakes. For a small donation, you can climb the still intact tower, from which you will have wonderful views over the Rhine valley, Alsace and the Black Forest. In summer, the ruins are turned into a stage for outdoor plays; I saw a German version of the abridged Hamlet play by the Reduced Shakespeare Company, which made great use of the castle features and was thoroughly enjoyable. Make sure to check what is currently on, as plays are only performed for a short time. read more
