I had been planning my husband's 50th birthday for over a year and thought I knew the vineyards I wanted to tour. We were going to be there a week and had planned 3 days of tastings plus a fancy dinner out! I knew I wanted to hire a limo service and had done my research on rates, reputation etc! I was going to go with one of the larger limo services that overall had good reviews as long as you stayed away from driver "x"...or driver "y"! The popular company claimed they would plan your trip but after speaking with them several times, I didn't have confidence they knew my tastes so I was on my own to coordinate all the tasting times, distances to and from the vineyards etc, all which was proving a bit challenging not knowing the area well. One of the vineyards (my bucket list, Ghost Horse) suggested I reach out to Tom @ Destination Napa and thank goodness I did!! I mentioned a couple of wines my friends and I like and while we all have different tastes and palette's, Tom assured me he would find vineyards we were all pleased with! While I had initially planned to use Tom for only two days, he convinced me to use him for all our transportation needs. Admittedly I was a little concerned putting all my faith in this one stranger and said to a friend, this is either going to go really well or really bad! I'm thrilled to say - Tom far surpassed my expectations! Tom handled the entire itinerary, choosing boutique vineyards (as requested) and making the reservations on our behalf, planning lunch, menu's, providing champagne before our big birthday dinner and always communicated in a timely fashion! And what's great, Tom is choosing the vineyards and driving you personally so your not having a different driver every day or dealing with someone who doesn't know the vineyard or what was booked for you! Plus he keeps you on schedule which can be difficult when your sitting with friends, drinking incredible wine and making memories!! As you can probably guess by reading the above, I had high expectations and micromanaged the entire process (poor Tom)! Turns out I didn't need to!! Tom's service and vineyard picks were above and beyond what I had planned!! What's best about Tom's picks, I never felt pressure to buy wines or join any of their wine clubs!! That said of course we bought wines, how could you not when you honestly feel like your drinking poetry all day long!! All the vineyards we went to had an amazing story and each one was vastly different (ie Mountain View, up on a hilltop, beautiful terrace, small pond & water fountain, caves). Plus Tom is friends with everyone in Napa (small local community) so whatever we needed he was able to help or offer advice for last minute restaurant reservations, where to shop for cheese and charcuterie and more importantly built into our itinerary the best places to stop for photo ops!! During our Napa Valley journey Tom became a friend, while still treating us like VIP clients! And while we have yet to join a wine club, I'm still ordering wine from the vineyards he took us to and just did a virtual tasting with one last night!! Special shout out to Harry & Cali at Tres Perlas and Todd Anderson of Ghost Horse/Anderson Conn Valley. Hire Tom and I'm sure he can get you in there! My wife was adamant in wanting to do the Sonoma foodie tour since she had never been in Sonoma before. Sherry kept in constant contact with my wife by email & text as she was our same tour guide back then. In fact she called her the day before & expressed concern of establishments not fully opened due to covid. So she managed to persuade my wife to do the foodie tour in Napa again instead. Maybe bc my wife told her she was wearing a long dress. Yup that did it! Sherry had started us at the infamous Oxbow public market with taking pics of the 4 of us in front. Yes that was a plus bc how often do you vacation & you do a quick selfie of everywhere you go? Ugh...all the time! LOL Sherry was informative, personable & quite the leader for our tour. She was sensitive to our needs & we totally enjoyed our six different stops walking leisurely from Oxbow market to throughout downtown Napa & back to the market. We had even walked by their farmers market which was on a Tuesday but unfortunately they were in the process of closing up since it was already noon. Our tour was a full three hours & we were totally satiated. What was quite enjoyable was we were with another couple whom we already knew in advance. Supposedly there was supposed to be 6 of us but that third couple mistakenly came the day before. Haha my wife said it was bc the Mercury was in retrograde! Okay so maybe this hidden gem of a winery is not named after one of my…read morefavorite comedy motion pictures of the 1980s...but what they are is an intriguing winery that focuses on the customer, especially their members. Located in the winding hills high above Glen Ellen in the heart of Sonoma's wine country, the namesake comes from two friends and partners Bob Briner and Squire Fridell. What makes the wines at Two Amigos Winery so unique is that the tastings they offer are done by appointment only as they give a tour of their entire estate and wine production facility and their tastings after their tour are complementary to visitors. Bob and Squire have known each other for almost six decades after being roommates in college. Two Amigos Winery is actually two wineries in one as their sister winery is known as GlenLyon Vineyards & Winery, where at one point all of the grapes they have grown on their estate were all outsourced to other wineries. After being unable to obtain a permit to make more wine of their own, they opted to obtain a permit to create a second winery with its own signature label. At Two Amigos, they make no fewer than nine wines, and through our guided tour from managing partner Bob himself, we learned that as a smaller winery they host a number of unique aspects from having all of their own equipment on site, including open air fermentation tanks so their wine ferments naturally with no yeast. This process may take a while longer for their wine to mature, but thanks to this process it not only picks up a nice color with a strong fruit-forward bouquet. After touring their laboratory and cellar that hosts their French oak wine barrels, we then followed Bob and his adorable dogs Theo and Stella up to their main house where they host their annual springtime pick up party for their members for an extraordinary tasting of no fewer than seven wines. Upon walking into their gorgeous estate home, we learned that all of their wines are crafted by a clown, a real one in fact as Squire is a retired actor and former pitchman who served as none other than Ronald McDonald himself in numerous commercials in the 80s and 90s. With a fun look at all of the memorabilia that he has collected as an actor over the decades and a truly remarkable hillside views of their vineyards that were not yet in bloom, but thanks to the abundance of water being stored and managed, it would only be a matter of weeks, before we were blooming. We headed to their shaded deck for our tasting, which began with their 2022 Vino Rosato, which is their appetizer wine, and on the slightly drier side but had a nice grapefruit finish. From there, Bob poured us one of my favorite wines of our tasting, their Viognier was a nicely chilled afternoon wine that had a real subtle taste to it, when paired with spicy cuisine could only add to the umami of your overall meal. For our third pour we enjoyed their non-okay and non-buttery Chardonnay, which was a real change of pace versus your traditional Chardonnays. With hints of green apples, we learned that this originated as a cool climate grape from the Parmalee-Hill Vineyards where Two Amigos also sources their grapes that produce their Pinot Noirs. Bob then had us delve into their red wines, including their signature Pinot Noir, which among all the wines, Bob taught us to swirl the wine in the glass by putting our hands over the top of the glass thereby locking in the bouquet and then when you are able to smell it, it completely changes the profile of the wine. When paired with generous amounts of cheese, this wine along with the next two red wines that we sampled, their Tirare il Dito and their Syrah, both grown on their estate. Tirare il Dito literally means "pull my finger" in Italian and exemplifies the humorous ways that the two amigos approach their wines. This wine was the only blend they source here at Two Amigos and was a highlight of our tasting. To finish our complimentary tasting, we enjoyed their Wee Moor Port wine, which was paired with Toblerone chocolate and was one of the sweetest wines one could enjoy. After ninety minutes of this extraordinary tour and tasting we realized that purchasing wine on the spot wasn't available if we weren't a club member. Not needing that much wine was our only regret as we weren't allowed to purchase any bottles of wine on this visit, as their Tirare il Dito and Wee Moor Port were real winners. But what we did get out of our experience at Two Amigos was a wonderful tutorial in how fine exclusive wine is crafted high in the hills of Sonoma, both Bob and Squire have achieved their goal of simply sharing their passion with appreciative visitors to Two Amigos Winery who love to sample new wines and take it all in, and at Two Amigos you will truly feel like a new best friend.

Considering the relative tools and "education" levels of the era, one should be able to infer that generally speaking, winemaking cannot be that difficult. And yet, here we find ourselves in the enlightenment era of the 21st century, desperately looking for a decent glass of wine that either doesn't taste like a stick of butter rubbed across tree bark, or worse, a beautiful purple-hued glass of swill that smells like grandma's favorite room deodorizer and tastes of old cough syrup mixed with metal shavings from an old machine shop. Where did civilization lose its way?? Somewhere along the millennia, humans got cute, thinking of ways to differentiate in order to let Lysander's wine not taste like Dorian's wine. As winemaking grew exponentially, we forgot the fundamental of wine: it's about the fruit, Stupid! (Yes I know, botanically speaking, grapes are technically a berry because the pericarp is fleshy all the way through and no stone resides within the center while having been produced from a single flower containing one ovary. Focus.) Luckily for us all, the gentlemen of Two Amigos Wine get it. Not only that, but they are willing to sit down with you and let you in on the secret while sampling some of the most stunning wines I have ever enjoyed as I gaze across the idyllic vistas of the property. If you like wine and want to love wine, please reach out to them and arrange a visit. You won't get a classroom lecture and you won't be one of 30 parties forking over $50 a pop to get a splash of some avant-garde, mass production critical darling. What you will get is an experience. It's worth every single penny and I will always book with Tom when I "revisit". On a side note my mom needed a prescription filled and Tom dropped it off while we ate lunch in his amazing backyard and took us back to pick it up when we were done with our tour, it just showed what a kind man he is! First, Melanie set us up with a limo to take us to several wineries and an amazing wine collective in Yountville. Second, Melanie put together a half day bike tour for our group in Sonoma to visit several wineries and a cheese factory. Booking with Melanie was super easy. She asked me what our group's preferences were, what our budget was and if we had any special requests / needs. She handled all of the booking fees, payments and confirmations. Before the trip, Melanie sent me a very detailed itinerary with our driver's name, contact information, the contact people at each winery, directions just in case the driver didnt have them (was not an issue) and the cost for each part of the day trip. Melanie was also reachable while we were out there in case anything came up (was not an issue - everything ran smoothly). Melanie was also incredibly helpful providing restaurant recommendations, shopping excursion ideas and providing a general sense of what attractions there were in Napa / Sonoma beyond wineries. Having someone else book the group trips (for a very reasonable cost) and getting a local's perspective on the wineries and places we should visit made the trip so much easier to plan and it was much more relaxing once we got there as I knew everything was taken care of. He knew everything not only from the intricate way the valley was formed, but its history, and everything in between. The…read moreconvenience and affordability of having a driver pick you up in the morning at your hotel/ rental home, in your rental car (which you are presumably already paying for), and providing personalized wine tours is unbeatable. Not to mention, Ryan is a great guy who shows an ability to appeal to any crowd. Background: A group of six of us (three couples) rented a Tahoe at SFO airport and a home in Green Valley (about 30 mins from Napa) for the week. We used Jewels Wine Tours for three consecutive days of wine tasting throughout the valley. We supplied jewels with a list of wineries we wanted to visit over the three days. Pros: Jewels scheduled all of our wine tastings and tours for us. All we had to do was supply them with a list of places we wanted to visit. Their knowledge of the valley (travel times) and how long you spend at each winery (varies greatly from winery to winery) allowed us to optimize our time while staying on a comfortable schedule. Ryan picked us up at our home each morning, promptly at our agreed-upon time (9:00-10:00 varying by day). He was always right on time. He showed up with an ice chest so we could pack picnic stuff and water if we wanted to. While driving through the valley, he was happy to provide as much or as little dialog, opinion, and/or commentary as we desired. He was great as a sounding board for comments/ questions throughout the day as we made our way from stop to stop. He even took the time to look some things up when he didn't know the answers off the top of his head. He seems to know tons of people throughout the valley and is able to provide the 'inside scoop.'. He also suggested several wineries and lunch/Dinner places which we thoroughly enjoyed. Ryan was careful to make sure we stayed on schedule... Time flies when your having fun/ drinking wine. He always stayed with the vehicle during our tastings to keep the car safe and cool to make sure our wine purchases stayed in great shape. Each night he dropped us off back at our house with our rental car. One night he even ran us by the grocery store as none of us were in any kind of shape to be driving. Cons: n/a All in all, there really is no other way to see napa valley when considering great service, convenience and value. You will not be disappointed. Two thumbs up!
