The manager in charge is fabulous because if you ask nicely, plants that look a bit tattered can be marked down to $5 or $10. Go home and care for them and in no time the plants are thriving.

My first experience there was a tad confusing - I only wanted some small handheld lights for a light box, and was under the impression that I'd need to build it myself. After explaining my predicament to one of the staff member, an older man, who looked like the best person to ask about electrical lighting, I was told to buy some parts here, and or go to a lighting shop for a pre-made alternative. After some further poking around the store, I found exactly what I needed, with no guidance from any further staff members. At checkout the staff we're less than impressed, and didn't engage with their customers further than just taking their money. It's only a hardware store, but some level of good customer service should still be expected.

I found it confusing because it is multi-faceted. Downstairs you enter off Ethel Street to an art gallery. If you weren't determinedly seeking it out, you could easily miss the fact that a back staircase leads to a large and densely packed store full of papers and presentation folders and easels and paint brushes and a kaleidoscope of coloured paint. In fact they encourage you to use the back entrance, which involves turning up a ramp off Ethel Street that appears to lead to either a roof terrace or a carpark - not an art supply store. Staff are passionate about what they sell - no doubt most of them are working there to supplement their own creative efforts. Not so sure about the art in the gallery, but can't leave the store without the weapons to tackle some new project myself.
