I hadn't had a professional haircut since I started balding twenty years ago and started cutting my own hair at home with clippers. But I was getting tired of looking shaggy, and I wanted to get my beard trimmed, too. I went by another barbershop in Charleston, and it seemed like you had to make reservations. While there were at least a dozen chairs, there only seemed to be one barber on duty. I slipped out quietly, and went to the next closest place, Bully Trap. I walked in, and all of the chairs were full, and there were a couple of folks waiting their turn. After I sat down, I was greeted by the barber closest to the door, who casually asked me if I had put my name on the chalkboard. He then did it for me, and graciously gave directions to the closest ATM (Bully Trap doesn't accept cards). I was impressed that there was only one tv in the shop, and the sound was turned off. The art on the walls was regional and looked original. This was not Super Cuts! The music wasn't so loud that folks had to shout to be heard over it. I got my hair and beard cut by a barber named Ryan both times that I went there. Ryan asked a few questions the first time I was there, but picked up on the fact that I didn't want to talk too much. As luck would have it, Ryan cut my hair the second time I went too, and I felt much more comfortable talking to him. When I go again, I'm going to ask for Ryan, if possible. I like establishing relationships. And yes, Ryan did a great job cutting my hair and beard. The price was very reasonable, and since I've worked in the service industry myself, I gave Ryan a more than decent tip. (Yes, I would prefer if American businesses would pay a living wage and service workers didn't have to depend on tips, but until that day comes, I will generously tip.) Great haircuts at a decent price! I'm a bit of an introvert, and I don't always enjoy making small talk with strangers. read more

Recently moved to the area and my first visit was as a walk-in. Wait time was minimal and got a great cut from Hunter. Used an app to schedule an appointment with him a couple months later and he was ready and waiting for me. Another great cut with great conversation. read more

Great barber shop. Staff is friendly and they listen to what the client wants. They're great with different ages and can do any style of hair. read more

Great place if you want to be ignored. I have been driving passed this place on my way home and decided to stop & get a cut. After standing right in front of a barber on his phone for 5-10 minutes another barber finish's a gents hair and asked me to put my name on the walk-in board. He was polite but left and went to the back. Hey I'm at the point in my life where your not doing me any favors by taking my money. It was bad enough that before today I didn't even have the Yelp App. I won't go Back! read more

Great find for an old style barber shop, lot's of barbers, awesome decor. I got my first cut by Trace. I recommend him highly. This was the first time in a long time I have had hot towels, a straight razor shave and a great haircut. They will take reservations and walk ins. Just put your name on the chalkboard and take a seat. Plenty of parking on the side and back of the red brick barbershop. I highly recommend Bully's read more

I've shopped barbers in Charleston, and hands-down, the Bully Trap has the best group of guys! Cool decor greets you, and just about every type of person is represented behind the chairs. Funny, engaging, knowledgeable and skilled--the barbers at The Bully Trap are great! I went here as barbers opened back up after the lockdowns, and then shopped around looking for something...a better deal, a better location, a better style...but came back several months ago and happened to get Sawyer as my barber. An apprentice, he may be new but he is amazingly talented. Now as a walk-in, I just request him. It's worth the wait to have someone listen to what you would like done, and then do it! read more

Can't recommend a better barber shop. They all do an immaculate job, and it's a great atmosphere. The wait can be a little long at times, but at a barber shop that shows they want to do a great job and not just make money. I didn't catch the name of the man that cut my hair, but these the third chair on the right side from the door. If you're looking for high quality haircuts, great laughs, and overall a positive experience PLEASE make your way here. read more

Great service and hands down the best hot shave I've ever had. The barber took his time and trimmed everything to perfection.

Very disappointed. I had been growing my hair out for 4 months and ask the barber what I could do to trim up my hair and maintain the length. He was too busy worrying about his bracket on the NCAA basketball tournament to listen. He spent more time talking to the other barbers than listening to me. I ask specifically to keep the length as I was growing my hair out. I was faced away from the mirror so I couldn't see what he was cutting but it seemed like a lot. I asked again politely if was just trimming he said yes He proceeded to cut my hair off to where he thought it should be then turned me around to look at the mirror. My response what the f..k he then said he was sorry. He said he was sorry and would not charge me I handed him my $20 and walked out pissed never to return. Horrible customer service just a barber shop where barbers hang out and chat. Very apparent was this guy didn't listen!!!!!!!! I waited almost a year to post but I'm still pissed. Don't go there if you expect that barber to listen. Yelp makes me give one star they should have an option for no stars. read more

Seriously good haircut. Cool guys cropping tops, easy to have a conversation with. $20 for a cut. Kinda disappointed that they don't accept cards for haircuts, cash only! They do accept plastic for products though? They also say they are open on Saturdays, every time I've stopped by on a Saturday there would be a note in the window saying they were closed that day. Parking is sometimes hard to get and it's usually an hour wait for a walk in. Love the quality in the haircut but they don't make an effort to make things easy on you at all. Expect to sit a while and make sure to bring cash. Would say it's worth the wait, but it's just a haircut. Pull it together a little more guys! read more

5:20 pm... Sign says "Closed" from the outside. I look at the hours. Hours go til 6 pm on weekdays. I open the door and say, "Are you guys really closed for the day?" (People in chairs and barbers cutting.) Reply from first barber: "Yes, Sir!" Hmm. Guess I'll find somewhere else. read more

Stopped in three weeks ago for a haircut. Was so pleased with the work I went in sooner than I needed, just to have them do it again- only this time for the works, which in my case was haircut and beard trim/shaping. When asked what I wanted, I told them I was leaving it up to them. Just make me pretty (no small feat!) These guys have insanely mad skill! After an hour in the chair, I looked amazing. Got nothing but compliments all weekend long including one from a hairdresser friend who was blown away by their work. I love the fact they use good traditional products. I love old-school barber products and they use high quality stuff. I've been recommending this place to everyone I know. I'll never go anywhere else now! read more

Sat there for 45 min. No one said hello, can I help you, not even eye contact!! Used to be was walk-in only, seems now they take appointments because people came in and went ahead of me after I've been sitting there waiting? After no acknowledgement of my existence, I finally just left. Guess what? As I walked back to my car, Three of the barbers out back smoking cigarettes! Won't find me back at this place! read more

This is the best barbershop in Charleston! You always leave looking better then before! The only con is the wait time. I recently waited a hour and forty-five minutes to go home frustrated but I thought long and hard about my experience. I was upset for the wrong reasons and got over it. I went back the next day and received one of best haircuts I've ever had! This isn't your average barbershop. This isn't sportsclips or Supercuts. The owners allow their employees to have lives. They are not slaves to their trade. I believe a lot of the would be customers do not realize this and leave upset. I've also read reviews saying people they were turned away because of the volume of people in line near closing hours. These barbers take pride in their work. They are going to spend the time to give you a proper haircut not a rush thru that leaves you looking like a bum. If you can't understand this then you are an unrealistic consumer. 10/10 read more

I got a great haircut today and I really enjoyed my time here. I'll certainly be back and am glad I found a great shop in West Virginia. I've been going to other places like great clips and sports cuts around the area and they don't even come close. I'm looking forward to taking my boys here to experience a real barber shop. read more

I've been all around the world and had my hair cut everywhere. I can say with 100% honesty that you will not find a better place. They take the time and will give you a great clean cut/shave. I actually drive 40 minutes from home because they are the only people I will ever let cut my hair. I will continue to go until they decide to retire and close the doors! read more

First trip to Bully Trap. Very satisfied. 5 chairs, all occupied when I arrived. Nice shop, easy parking. Jacob was my barber. He listened to what I was shooting for. Even looked at a couple of picture examples. Told him I know it's tough to go by a pic but he was very nice about it . Gave me a great cut. Took his time , very personable. All the other guys seemed knowledgeable and cool also. I will be returning. Great service for the price, not hurried and rushed. Btw, also do neck shave and use good products. read more

Bully Trap is a fine traditional barbershop on the west end of Charleston. I've had my haircut twice by two different barbers at Bully Trap and have also received a beard trim. They do a fantastic job and are very diligent. The barbers seem to really care how their customers look. The wait time is a bit longer than most places, but I think that most of their customers feel that it is worth it. They don't take appointments and only take cash which is inconvenient, but not the end of the world. My primary issue with this place is it's business hours and overall lack of customer service. I've been turned away on 3 different occasions because they want to close over an hour early. An average person works from 8-5pm and the store is only open from 10-6pm. If they were actually open until 6pm that would be great, but a person needs to be in there by at least 4:30 to even have a chance. Nobody is going to be able to get a haircut unless they are a college student or unemployed. One of the times I got my haircut was on a vacation day. They are open on Saturday, but actually close at 3pm. Which means you probably need to be there by 1:30 or forget about it. It's almost not worth being open. In addition to this, they also raised the price of a haircut by $5 without any real justification. Did the price of scissors go up? It's just kind of frustrating to see a business with this much potential wasted. They have many return customers because of the quality of their work and positive word of mouth, but the shop is really doing itself a disservice with the schedule and what I would describe as smugness. Maybe they don't want a lot of customers, so I might be missing the point. There are way too many other options though to operate like that. read more

Great atmosphere, location, prices, and customer service. This place is everything a barber shop should be - and then some. Need I say more?

Best f'ing barber shop to which I have ever been. I'm originally from WV. Boone County to be exact so obviously I'm well versed in the finer things in life. Real talk: In WV, there's no other barber shop that does barbershopping like Bully Trap. Scratch that: I now live in Austin, TX. There isn't even a barber shop in Austin, TX that does it like Bully Trap. These guys listen to the client; they are well trained in their craft; they're f'ing good people; and they take their time. Bottom line: they give a shit. I friggin' wish these guys were down here in Austin, TX with me. They'd run the game. Cut, shave, general old school barbershop banter - these guys know the cloth from which they are cut and give it the respect it deserves. Get haircut here or roll the dice. Your call. Good Luck, Gentlemen! read more
