Small shop = small inventory...No mystery here. But the upside is personalized service and attention to detail. While at first glance, it may appear that Kurt does not have what you are looking for, but if you let him know what you want, he will do whatever is within his ability to help - even if that means sending you to another store. Without question, Kurt has the best all-around sales/service policies that I have ever encountered in my decades of haunting guitar shops, stuff that isn't obvious like trade-ins, consignments, and free or low-cost service on instruments that he sells. Kurt has been adjusting and repairing my stuff since he came to Corvallis in the '80s, and I have never had any issues. He has always been competent, thorough, and swift. And, if he is swamped with repairs, he will tell you, so you are not without your axe for an undetermined amount of time like other places here in Corvallis. If you are looking for guitar lessons, then I hope that you find Kurt with an open slot. I appreciate his ability to weave in Music Theory concepts while teaching fingering positions and song structure. Patient and methodical are the two words that come to mind. And...Loitering is permitted (encouraged?) Comfy couches await your arrival. I find myself gravitating here, caffeinated beverage in hand, even when I don't need anything. Because, you never know who you are going to run into, what exotic hand-crafted Breedlove is on hand, and I can always use a spirited discussion on the merits of a particular tone wood, or vintage tube amp. read more

I live in Eugene, and used to go to all of the music stores here, but when I first went to Bullfrog Music in Corvallis, I was blown away by Kurt, the store owner, because he actually cares about people and he listens to what you say, and he does everything he can to give you the best possible service. Not only that, he guarantees everything he sells, and gives his customers a lifetime warranty on your instrument purchase for any problems that might come up! And boy does he do excellent repair jobs. In fact, I would call what he does miraculous. He fixed three of my guitars that the music store owner and the luthier in Eugene said could not be done, and he did it within MINUTES! No waiting for weeks or more, with no guarantee of the outcome. AND, his charge is minuscule! Yesterday, he fixed my guitar, again within minutes, and it's better than it was when I first bought it. It was the best birthday present I've ever had. (He didn't know it was my birthday). Not only do I enjoy going to his store, just to hang out and talk to him (like a ton of other people do who come to his store), he has totally won my trust, and I consider him a friend. BULLFROG MUSIC = GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE I lost a small screw from the tuner button of a Loar Mandolin. I called the importer and they told me to call a local dealer of Loar instruments. I found Bullfrog Music listed as the closest Loar dealer so I called and store owner, Kurt, looked thru his whole shop for the screw I needed but did not have it. He apologized profusly and I told him I would try other dealers. I called 7-8 other dealers and got absolutely zero help. I called Kurt back and he went to bat with the Importer and assured me he would take care of my issue. Today I got 4 replacement screws delivered via US mail as promised. NO charge and service with a smile! Bullfrog music is a wonderful full service music store with great customer service. Owner Kurt cares about his clients. In this day and age of Internet suppliers who sell cheap and offer no service past the point of sale, please do yourself a favor and deal with a real music store that puts customer service and client satisfaction at the top of their priorities. I was on my yearly motorcycle ''Long Ride , Midwest via Route 66 to San Luis Obispo (as much as I could find), then north to Oregon via Coastal Hwy 1. After 5 days, I was in one of my favorite places, Corvallis, OR. Since I was riding solo, I made a decision to take a tent/sleeping bag and "rough it" a little to save some money. The last thing I left at home was my Martin Backpacker guitar. Last time that will happen, as I need music more than I care about comfort. So I ditched my gear with friends and went to Bullfrog Music where Kurt fixed me up with a beautiful Washburn (small size) and I was a happy camper the rest of the 5250 mile ride...and to this very day. The sound this little guitar puts out is really nice, it looks really good, and it's so much fun to play...oh, did I mention, it's highly portable, too! I have received wonderful advice concerning both instruments and gear at Bullfrog. If you are looking for an instrument in the guitar family (acoustic or electric) or a banjo/mandolin, etc., despite the small inventory, there will most likely be a fitting instrument for you there. Research the brands he mentions on the Bullfrog Music website, many of them are little-known but high quality. The owner Kurt also offers very reasonable rates in terms of repairs, and he got my Mexican Stratocaster sounding and feeling great. He even ended up charging me a bit less than expected because he didn't have to put in as much work time. I can see why Kurt's repair queue is often full; he does great work and made sure to check in with me afterward. I'd say Bullfrog is one of the best kept secrets in town. read more

Kurt has been in the music industry for decades and has perfected his style and service beyond what competitors can't even comprehend. I live in Eugene, but opted to have my guitar work done by kurt based on the negotiation of fair pricing and the expertise for which he demonstrates. I was able to trust his judgement and anticipated the results to be as perfect as possible. I can honestly say my guitar has never sounded or played better than after having the upgrades and setup done to my vintage instrument by Kurt. Kurt is AWESOME. I saw a guitar online and when I drove down to check it out, he was generous with him time to show me that guitar AND others he though I might be interested in. He and his team are incredibly knowledgable. Kurt even tried to sell me a guitar that was CHEAPER than the one I came in to look at - it played just as beautifully. Even though I went with the original guitar I came in to see, I'll definitely be back in within the year to buy another guitar. Kurt's great. The store is great. Kurt is an expert on guitars and everything about them. He does excellent set-up and repair. He re-fretted a 1937 Gibson arch-top for me where the fret slots were all sloppy and a few of the MOP inlays were broken. Perfect restoratio--you can't tell which inlays were re-done--and I can't imagine the neck and fretwork were more playable when it was new.
