Yesterday table booked for 3.15, party of eight ,waited ages for a table,food arrived 5.15. Yes two hours, unreal eh ! Obviously tables overbooked ! Didn't complain at the time for obvious reasons. Large car park has room to accommodate more than the two disabled parking bays. Staff were fine, but the volume of customers needs to be addressed with a time restriction imposed. My Toad in the Hole was burnt in the Skillet, staff offered to replace same but after waiting two hours I wasn't prepared to accept a further delay. Will not be returning read more

We pre-booked our table for food and drinks about ten days prior, via their website, clearly stating my father is disabled and uses a cane and is very slow and requested a table near to the entrance, warm and if possible near to the toilet. We arrived 15 minutes early. The waitress at the computer pointed to our table (table 8) and we found our own way to the bench seat and two chairs. The velour backing on the bench was badly stained. After about ten minutes a male employee in a business shirt and tie came over and said someone would be over to take our order for drinks and food. Sit there and do not go to the bar someone will be over. Twenty minutes later (so we have been in the pub 30 minutes now on a QUIET MONDAY WEEKDAY) I worked out we had been forgotten. Our visit was not going well. So thirty minutes in to our visit I go to the bar to order drinks. I advise the girl behind the bar we want to run a tab, as we are eating and want to order asap. She never swiped our card, but said a tab was up and running and to pay at the end. I take the three drinks back on my own (a tray would of been nice and a smile from the bar staff but hey its a Monday and they are busy - not lol). Another 30 minutes later (so an hour now) we still haven't been able to order our food. Depite staff obviously aware we are cheesed off as we are constantly trying to catch their eye (see picture) we decided to pay our bill for the drinks and leave. By the way, when we paid we were never asked if we had a nice time etc. So, over the past 8 days I have been in contact with Guest Relations at Greene King who said they would investigate and "put things right" with them coordinating with the pub management and business development manager. Today I got an email saying Robert was trying to contact me, but was unable to do so. My mobile is always on and I have no voice mails or missed calls, so someone is confused and it isn't me matey. Do not visit this pub (in my opinion and without prejudice) because if you have a terrible experience at a local level, the corporate guest relations staff aren't, in my experience, any better. I was left with an email suggestion saying I could ring Robert if I was still unhappy. So people here is the truth. My family and friends will avoid Green King pubs and especially the Bull Pub - instead we will give our loyalty to independent pubs that thankfully still exist. PS. I had the General Manager ring me on 7/3/23. Appalling attitude and told him so and thereafter complained to Greene King HQ. Don't shoot the messenger. read more

Worst local Pub by a mile, will never go there again. Regrettably 1 star was the minimum rating, as that's being generous. Managed to ruin a family birthday meal 2 years in a row. Absolute joke of a pub. Booked a table of 5 outside, then received a very curt voicemail less than an hour before the table was booked for to say they couldn't serve food outside as no chefs. Where is the customer going to then go with less than an hour's notice on a Bank Holiday Sunday lunch? With customer service and attitude like this, they won't have any customers soon read more

Visit here quite regularly now. Positives: Food is very nice. Quantity of food is ample. Waitress's are very friendly. Negatives: If your not book in (mainly Sundays) staff will not even try to help. Your names not down, your not coming in! Waiting times between courses can be quite excessive. (This is fine of course if you're not in a rush). read more

This is just a good local pub with good food, its convienance with style (everyone should have a local like this) Yes its a chain (the one in Tauton is quite good to) but its a designed old fashioned pub that will have the open fire on if its cold outside (watch-out you bake if your near it) and the busy beer garden with strawberries and cream when its sunny their menu changes with the seasons (and it seems lately also with the events, I think even haggis something was part of a sampler menue), which is good and bad, bad because I seem to always loss a favourite but good because I seem to find a new one. Its managed to put the posh into fish and chips and its the only place i've had vegie fish and chips with mushy pees. wines by the glass wont dissapoint, you can even get bubbly per the glass and I hear there is a lot of beer choices, plus they have the standard spirts. being the local i've lost count how many times with so many different people. its a relaxed, socialable drink and meal place; family, friends, dates and child friendly verses jugs of drink and sticky floors. Talk about sticky, sticky toffee pudding for desert is a must read more

Well respected pub and restaurant where you can enjoy a good pint and a pie or a fine wine and a home cooked lunch or dinner. Caters for all and dogs welcome in the garden. Large outdoor seating area and summertime barbeques are popular. read more

We visited this pub on the way back from a day trip to Southend, to see the Air Festival. We ordered food - the sea bass and a superfood salad with mackerel, and it was to be honest a bit disappointing. The sea bass dish was a bit overcooked and dry in parts, and the superfood salad was meant to come with pumpkin seeds - the main reason why my boyfriend chose that dish - and there were absolutely none in evidence, nor were we told that this would be the case. The staff were a little on the unfriendly side, which was a shame. The only really good thing was the rhubarb crumble - a good sized portion and the crumble was nice and oaty. The pub itself was ok, the chairs were a little uncomfortable but there were a fair number of tables to choose from and the atmosphere was pleasant. There was also a nice looking beer garden, although since it had just started raining when we arrived we did not check that out! read more

This pub is nice looking and comfortable, which is very popular most evenings. Its often difficult to find a seat/table and have found the food to be hit or miss in the quality. Had a meal in there a week ago and we a little disappointed in having lumpy gravy on and otherwise lovely meal! Good choice behind the bar. Previous visits have been lovely. They have a huge garden which is well utilised during the summer. This backs on to Hockley woods so is a good stop off after a long walk. They have good quailty furniture outside and heated smoking area on the patio. read more

One of our favourite and used restaurants/pubs in the area - really nice atmosphere and lovely roaring fire in the winter. Beware - get there early, especially on Friday nights to secure a table. And food can sometimes be a little on the small portion size - especially when busy but generally really good and great place to meet friends and spend an evening. read more

An absolute waste of time if you're thinking of eating at a 'busy' time. (i.e Friday/Saturday early evening or even a Saturday lunchtime). Each time the food takes at least 45/50 minutes to turn up. By which time you have to complain to the (surly/teenage/couldn't care less) staff. And when the food turns up I have to say it's not worth the wait, considering the cost. Personally my husband believes the portions are quite limited - I don't find that but rather that things look quite dry and as if they've been sitting around for a while - much like ourselves waiting for the food to turn up! Would not recommend me and my partner was served RAW egg then after sending it back we received an over cooked egg which just show incompetence, a chef should be able to cook an egg perfect. Tried to ordered a gluten free burger but they had not gluten free buns which was very disappointing as we only picked to come here for the gluten free menu. We was just given the bottle, no glasses and no one offered to open or pour it like a normal restaurant would. Very disappointed overall and will not be visiting again. read more
