Good Beginnings Preschool of First Baptist Church

Good Beginnings Preschool of First Baptist Church

She was given a great social, emotional and academic foundation for Kindergarten. We opted to go to the public school for Kindergarten. But, I have met many people who sent their kids to KR & K and loved it. I would recommend to practically everyone. Finally, it is a real bargain when it comes to tuition cost. We paid a considerably lower monthly fee than many other preschools in the area.

My wife really did extensive research and settled on Good Beginnings for our 3rd daughter to attend…read morepreschool as a 3 year old. She had attended a great music program at the church and had similar high hopes for the school. The experience was fine for the first two classes. On the 3rd class the kids had a "substitute" teacher. The teacher had been told to give candy to all the kids and tell them it was from their normal teacher and that she missed them. The substitute used the candy as a reward for compliance instead. She made the kids sit with their heads down on the table and gave candy only to those that followed all the directions. Apparently, our daughter did not follow all the directions. When picked up she was upset and confused because she thought she was being bad (even though I don't think she really knew what was going on.) This is unacceptable for 3 year-olds just starting their school experience. Our daughter did not get candy and was very confused as to why not. She was still adapting to school and couldn't comprehend what the candy was for and why she didn't get any. Our daughter is normally very outgoing and isn't shy in the least. She's had no problem playing with friends, going to a music class and dancing by herself at dance class. After this incident she has had trouble sleeping. She was very clingy and upset when we tried to go to class the next day and we had to pull her from the school because of this incident. She regressed a bit in potty training having frequent accidents when she had been mostly accident free. We talked to both the teacher and the director of the school and they were apologetic that the situation was handled poorly as the teacher had not meant for the candy to be given selectively. Where they failed was maintaining that school policy be upheld and refusing to honor a refund of the tuition paid. Of $280 paid for the first and last month of school they will only refund $85. They used some crazy math and a notice policy to basically rip us off of the money we paid. I feel this is unacceptable since they created the problem as well as problems outside of school. I didn't receive service, the school created a problem (which they've admitted to and apologize for) and now they refuse to refund our tuition. I would steer clear of this school as there are other choices in Doylestown.

Ms. Anastasia and her team really go above and beyond, and are nothing short of amazing at what they do! As a first time parent, they made transitioning to daycare so smooth and seamless. We love them and can't thank them enough for all their daily love and support!

The owner, in particular, seems to prioritize money over the best interests of the kids. The lack of professionalism from the owner and the administrative staff is a real issue--many months they wouldn't even have basic things like calendars available, or their communications would be inconsistent. One time they sent out an email about having a "desert bar" ... and had it spelled that way multiple times, so it wasn't just a typo. Is that who you want responsible for educating your child? Aside from all that, our son was diagnosed with some speech and socialization delays during his time at this school and entered Early Intervention. Both of his EI teachers visited his school and told us for his personal needs and learning challenges, the environment at this school wasn't right. Once we found a new school that felt like a better fit, we wanted to move our son right away, but the owner refused to let us leave without requiring dues to cover the full 30 days written notice, despite the fact that the enrollment agreement allows them to waive fees and let a student go if it is in their best interests (and we had a verbal conversation about it over 30 days before we left). For comparison, the school he moved to would have let him attend a few weeks for free just to help us do what was best for him. I wasn't surprised at all to see some other reviews on Greatschools.com that similarly echoed our experience--teachers are mostly good, but the owner/admin staff is not. And with the high level of staff turnover at these type of schools, you are relying on the owner to continually hire good people and hold them to a high standard. I would not trust the owner of this school to actually do that, at all. Basically, I wouldn't recommend this school to anyone. If your kid is a follower and fits in to a crowd, they'd probably do fine here, but you can find better. If your kid is at all unique like mine, this school has been generally unsupportive and not helpful, especially compared to his new school where the teachers and administrative staff have really gone out of their way to figure out ways to help keep our son engaged and included (that he has really responded to).

The approach they take is unlike most preschools and daycares you see these days. There are always so many helping hands for each child, and they are treated with love and respect. No yelling, no weird rules, just love and guidance. They are constantly engaged in pretend play, puzzles, beautiful artwork, long walks through the park, building snowmen in the snow....just being kids. All day, every day. I couldn't recommend this school more, as they have all become an extension of our family. They love our children like their own and really take the time to get to know each and every student.

Safety is the utmost importance. Classrooms small enough that teachers really know the students. No staff turnover. Kids are outside for a lot of the day, going on long walks on the pretty grounds and playing on the playground and basketball court. Solid curriculum too - at only 3 years old I'm constantly impressed by what he's learning. Special events held throughout the year that go above and beyond what's expected of a school - because they care that much. Our son has really blossomed and made so many friends since he's started. Every morning he runs in without so much as looking back to say bye to me! I never have to worry about my son while I am working which is all I can ask for - I know staff watch the kids like their own, and that he's having fun!
