I love Build!!!
I graduated from the Build program back in 2012, when they were freshly launched as a sub program the D:hive organization. Since then, Build has grown enormously and is now branched off as it's own entity, in it's own new location.
For those unfamiliar with Build, it's basically a one stop shop for aspiring (or established!) entrepreneurs looking to grow their business in Detroit. They offer the 8 week Build Basics course, where local and established business and entrepreneurship experts meet with the class participants to take them A-Z through the basics of starting a business - from writing your business plan, licensure, commercial real estate, finance management, marketing, and more. There are also special programs geared towards social entrepreneurs, and ongoing workshops that help their course graduates continue moving their ventures to the next level (these are usually open to general public, as well). They facilitate popup markets in various retail locations, and are generally there as the go-to resource for any question a small business owner in the city might have.
The space is open, welcoming, and primed for creativity. There is small discussion and relaxation space, and a larger area for class and workshop meetings. If there is a question you have that isn't covered in an upcoming event, you can always call and make an appointment or drop by and they'll do whatever they can to help you out!
I love Build, and I'm so excited for them to be moving forward in their mission. It only stands to reason that as they help other businesses grow, they'd be growing themselves! The Built Institute is really an invaluable resource and Detroit is so fortunate to have it here. read more
