Art Café is one of a handful of Muslim-run cafés in the neighbourhood, all of which - to the continued surprise of some bemused locals - fail to serve sausage sarnies and bacon-and-egg breakfasts but provide a great line in non-alcoholic hot drinks and high-quality French patisserie. What's special about Art Café is its delicious Algerian coffee. A cup of this and a freshly-baked croissant will set you back £2 - half what you'd pay halfway along the Victoria Line. For lunch, Panini and baked potatoes, with fairly predictable but generous fillings of spiced/regular tuna, cheese, roasted vegetables etc, cost no more than £3.50. Service is friendly, the café relaxed and comfortable, and it's a stone's throw from Walthamstow Central. Don't wait until you get into town for your morning shot of caffeine!
