I have danced at Buffa's for 15 years and I loved every minute of it. They have encouraged me to be not only a technically proficient dancer while encouraging my unique stage presence, but the Buffa's staff also checked up on my emotional and physical well-being all my years. Even after I graduated, I was invited back to the studio and given an incredibly warm welcome. I am now in the modern dance company at William & Mary, and I believe I can credit Buffa's with my ability to make the company and my ability to act appropriately in professional environments. I have nothing but good things to say about Buffa's. I started here when I was 12 years old and was only taking a few classes to improve my competitive ice skating at the time. But after spending a year there I fell so in love I decided to quit skating and switch to the full time Dance Company Competition team and I couldn't be more grateful that I did so. During my 6 years at Buffa's, I competed on both the dance company and ensemble teams, took a multitude of technique and stylistic classes, and worked as an assistant teacher to the children's classes (which are amazing!). Through all my time spent here I not only made my life-long best friends but also established close knit relationships with the faculty and staff that I will cherish forever. I have also gone back and taught the children's summer camps too which goes to show that Buffa's is not only a K-12 experience. read more

If you want a great dance studio where you kids learn from the very basics all the way to pre-professional dancing, there is no place else you should consider. You can learnall different types of dance here. My daughters have been dancing here since they were little and its our second home. The staff, the families the facilities are second to none. QUALITY is what you get from Buffa's. If you want competitive dance Buffa's is the place. If you want to take just some Ballet classes, the teachers are amazing. If you want to just take a musical theater, or jazz or tap class, Look no further!! read more

I jumped around from studio and studio until I found my home in Buffa's. I spent 7 years dancing with the incredible dancers and faculty there, going to competitions, creating my own choreography, and dancing in Nutcrackers. The best times of my life! Wish I could do it all over again read more

The management of this studio is unprofessional and unpleasant to work with. The classes are overcrowded and they tend to focus on certain dancers that are on the competition team. Don't waste your money on this studio. read more

glad we found a more solid studio elsewhere. there's no rhyme or reason when they place dancers in a particular dance class, the differentiation of levels makes no sense. even if your kid dances for years, they'll admit a student with little to no experience into the same class. communication with studio unfriendly and unprofessional. read more

Positives: There are some good jazz dance teachers and nice facilities at this location. Negatives: 1. This studio only focuses on their competitive dance teams. To be more specific, they focus on a few dancers and the rest of the team ends up as backup dancers. This favoritism spills over to their normal classes and the dance team 'faves' are front and center while those not on the dance teams are hidden in the back row -- and often not even on the stage for long periods of time during the dance recitals. 2. Beware of dance moms. Additional time and attention is provided to the dancers that have ultra-active mom volunteers. Also, if you send your dancer here be sure to volunteer backstage so you can see how your child is treated by these moms backstage. Very rude with lots of yelling....not a fun atmosphere in which they should be celebrating the arts. 3. Mandatory fund raisers. The money goes to the dance teams, but all dancers are pressured to attend these "mandatory" events. Some are considered fund raisers not for the for-profit studio, but for the non-profit dance organization run by this same studio. 4. It starts with small fees when the dancers are small. However, the rates continue to rise over the years and they require additional classes to be paired with one another. Soon you'll be paying $500/month or more. Also, be prepared to pay for $25/seat tickets for the recitals even after you pay the costume and $100 "recital fee". 5. There is a high level of attrition here. You see many dancers that are 12-15 years old, but I noticed this year at the end of the year recital and program that only four high school seniors were recognized. All of the others didn't quit dancing, they went to other studios. Save the heartache and choose another studio to begin with. read more

If you are looking to be a part of an elite dance team, this is the studio for you! If your child wants to take a few classes and enhance his/her dance skills, I suggest looking elsewhere. My daughter was with this studio for 3 years, taking 2 classes plus a part of Rhinestones or Crystals (the young competition groups) all 3 years. Each year, the studio found new ways to increase their revenue. The first year that we were there, part of the recital fee was a few tickets to the recitals. The next year, they reduced the recital fee by $25 and charged $20 per ticket ($15 for the Concert.) This year, for my family to attend all 5 recitals, it would have cost $425 in addition to the $375 in recital fees. Recital dress rehearsals were on Father's Day weekend for my daughter were 13 hours, 8 of which were 12-8 on Father's Day and she was only in 3 classes. Some kids were there longer. Recitals were held on WEEKDAYS. Some kids had to leave school early. Parents were told that if they wanted to attend, they had to take off from work. That makes it doubly expensive. Classes that had typically been combined into the same recital were split into separate shows. For instance, if you had ballet and tap on the same night, in the same classroom, one after another, those were always in the same recital so that parents would only have to buy tickets to one recital and sit through one show instead of 2. That was not the case this year and it was blamed on the harsh winter. Choreography is recycled year after year. This year there were TWO repeat dances in which my daughter performed just 2 short years ago in almost identical costumes. The lyrical dance performed annually by the Rhinestones group is the same dance every year, just to a different song. Many weeks, her instructor for Crystals was out of town with the ensemble dance team and she was left with senior students from the studio teaching her class that week. I hope that the studio returns to the days of encouraging the love of dance and not just winning at competitions. read more

We danced at Buffa's for over five years because of the good teachers, in spite of the awful management, the insufferable dance moms, and the narcissism. When COVID hit, we were supportive of all the small businesses that ran the activities our children participated in. Buffa's, however, took a very entitled attitude. We ate the cost of the rehearsal costumes, but Buffa's acted like receiving the useless costumes in the middle of May was a cause for celebration. Months later, after e-mails lamenting their plight in applying for relief from the government, they began to suggest the possibility that we might be refunded for lost classes, however, they made a point to praise those parents who had proactively donated their tuitions. Very tacky, presumptuous, and petty. Keep in mind that if you have a child taking several classes, we are talking about hundreds or even thousands of dollars multiplied by the months in question. Additionally, their front desk is run by aloof teenagers with attitude who are incapable of giving definitive answers. Aside from the COVID-time messages mentioned above, this business does not foster a sense of community, family and inclusion. I never got a message praising the effort made by the children, keeping the parents abreast of anything, etc. You'd go to their recitals and there Mrs. Buffa will repeat her yearly generic thank you. On another note, why don't they expand the wait room, so that the young siblings of dancers don't get trampled? Why don't they send a monthly newsletter to make the families feel acknowledged and welcome (with something other than a payment reminder, huh?)? Why don't they train their front-desk staff properly? Why wasn't Mrs. Buffa herself calling the families on the phone if she wanted to appeal to our generosity in donating tuition during COVID? That would have been the human touch, otherwise it just comes across as greed. read more

I am so lucky to be able to say that I spent nearly 15 years dancing at Buffa's Dance Studio. When I was in elementary school, dance was by far my favorite after school activity, largely thanks to the wonderful faculty at Buffa's! In middle school and high school, Buffa's was my second home, and I cherished my time in dance class. One of my favorite experiences each year was performing in the recitals. The recitals at Buffa's are of a professional quality, and are such a fulfilling experience. Beyond the recitals, I also loved performing in the Nutcracker each Winter, attending competitions throughout the school year, and choreographing for the choreographer's showcase in the Spring. My experience at Buffa's was absolutely irreplaceable, and I still enjoy spending time with friends I made at Buffa's, and visiting the studio as an Alumni! If you are looking for a dance studio, Buffa's is the way to go! read more

We wish we never had to move away from this studio! Our two daughters loved learning here and their dance performance at the end of the year was wonderful each year. You can tell how hard the teachers worked with the kids when you see the girls on stage doing their dances without looking for cues from teachers off stage, like you see at so many other places. When we needed to change a class, the ladies at the front desk and the teachers made it work for us. The other parents are welcoming and great to be around. Classes each month are very reasonable for the young ones but you do pay extra for recitals, etc. We hope we can find a place as good where we are moving to! read more

I danced at Buffa's basically all my life and I had wonderful experiences there. This studio provided an amazing environment to grow and learn as well as have fun. I met some of my closest friends there and continue to have amazing relationships with all of the teachers. They are very good at providing as many opportunities for their dancers to grow and showcase what they've learned and encourage everyone to do their best. I have continued to stay connected to the studio after graduation by participating in their alumni dance and teaching classes because of my love for this studio and everyone in it. If you put your child in dance classes at Buffa's you will be sure to get high quality teachers, choreography, and experiences as well as extremely well done shows such as their performance of The Nutcracker through Burke Civic Ballet, and the end of the year recitals. These performances very much reflect the effort and time the faculty and volunteers put in to ensure a show that looks professional.
