The store itself is organized, well lit, and prices were clearly visible on each item throughout the store. The employees I engaged with during my shopping experience were pleasant to interact with. The store has a wide variety of clothing, shoes and accessories both contemporary and vintage and the prices were reasonable and competitive with its nearby competitors. I would note though that parking in Brookline is treacherous to say the least. So I would recommend going early to any business in Coolidge Corner. I also noticed that during my visit the store was particularly warm even with a AC on. I realize some of the building's in Brookline have existed for many years and things like HVAC or probably a nightmare to upgrade. I think incorporating some industrial fans towards a front of the store could help alleviate this issue and make the shopping experience in the summer months more pleasant. read more

New to thrifting, the lady got me into it. Been to more and more spots recently and this spot def has a pretty wide selection of brands, kicks, jackets, sweaters, jeans etc. the store was bussing. A ton of people in and out buying selling and thrifting. There were brands from carhartt, TNF, arteryx, Patagonia, Nike, new balance, adidas, vans, timberland and more. Managed to cop a 40th anniversary NB1500 pair made in UK. Prices seemed fair and deals to be had. Has fitting room, also where you can have stuff held) and sneakers are 1 shoe on the floor, other shoe behind register. Cool shop better than many others we've been to recently. read more

Today was the first time that I have actually gone inside Buffalo Exchange. Back in my thrifting era! I was pleasantly surprised with all the items we found. There were brands such as Patagonia, COS, Arteryx, Theory, ALLSAINTS, Club Monaco, etc. We also were able to find these cool New Balance 40th anniversary 1500 MiUK shoes! Pricing: I'd say the prices are fair for the items I saw today in store. Every piece was in good condition, some still even were NWT. It's been a while since I've had any luck with thrifting so I'd say it was a pretty solid thrift day ;) Highly recommend if in the area. Parking: Plenty of parking on Harvard St, Beacon, & in the parking lot behind Maruichi's (Centre St Parking lot, up to 4 hours meter parking!). read more

Let me tell you what I like: finding fun t-shirts for a decent price and when I head to a BE I expect to find second hand clothes. What I don't like: Going to BE and finding new shirts priced at $20 and above mixed in with second hand clothes. I feel like this defeats the purpose of going to a Buffalo Exchange! The rack I searched at least half of the t-shirts were new! I walked out with nothing for myself but a new t-shirt for as a gift. (The one t-shirt I wanted that was secondhand had a decent sized hole.) It was clean, organized and the staff were very friendly. read more

The selection here is always really great, but it's important to check the clothes thoroughly for damage, as a sometimes the employees haven't noticed and marked it appropriately (usually they will put "as is" or mark it down if it has damage). There are two consignment shops on Harvard Street in Brookline, and both are awful for different reasons. Buffalo Exchange says that it takes in clothes from those that are older than high school/college age, but it doesn't. Try bringing them 50 pieces of designer mechandise of different types, all in pristine condition, and they will find a reason to dismiss each piece. None of them had the holes in different places that are usually in the garments that make up their window display. The salespeople are awful. 2nd Street Coolidge Corner has nice salespeople, but they pay PENNIES ON THE DOLLAR, even for things that they like and see the worth of the product. They then turn around and sell purses for hundreds, up to more than a thousand dollars. Don't go to them either to sell. read more

I have both sold and shopped at this location. Shopping there, I have always managed to find something, and the staff has always been friendly and helpful. Selling has also been a very positive experience The times I have sold, both Carl and Trinity have been very helpful, informative, and specific about them items they are looking for, and thoughtful about why they might pass on an item. I won't comment on the buying experience, but I do want to share my thoughts on selling here. Both times I visited, I had a pleasant experience, and the selling process followed the guidelines outlined on their website. However, I'm still unclear about the criteria they use to decide which items to accept. I had several items rejected even though similar styles from the same brand were accepted in the same lot. For instance, the staff member who reviewed my clothes mentioned they were "only taking light summer clothing" and accepted one of my ZARA button-ups, but a different ZARA button-up wasn't taken, even though it was just a different color. I also get that their needs might change from week to week, but I visited twice within a month, and one week they rejected an item that they accepted the following week. It could be that they needed it after selling out, but it left me questioning whether there's a consistent standard they follow. I understand it's a business, but I don't think I'll try selling here again. That said, they do seem to have a wide selection. read more

Don't sell here. A couple months ago I had an item accepted to be on consignment from the shop. Was told they'd contact me if a sale was made. Curious after a few months, I stopped in to check on the item. I was told the product sold. When it came time for reimbursement, a 'computer issue' appeared to occur. The staff made multiple phone calls to various superiors and after more than half an hour of waiting and the staff telling me to come back another day, I was told the product was never sold. That the product had a broken aspect and had been taken off the shelves. No reimbursement other than apolologies. No item accepted by the store, especially for consignment, would had been taken in with a broken aspect. As so many reviews have already pointed out, the staff are hostile, accusatory, and condescending -- especially to people of color. After already checking out of the dressing room with one employee, another employee barked at me to come over again so she can check each tag on the clothing I tried on. Of course, none of the other white patrons were getting this treatment. Throughout this whole interaction she was hostile and accusatory. I understand this is a standard practice at stores like this, but I recommend the staff learn some empathy when approaching customers, and also understand that not all brown men with beards are looking to steal their unwashed used clothing. Please, take a step back, and practice kindness. I really regret purchasing the items after that interaction - should have just left. read more

Buffalo has always been one of my favorite stores in the country to buy and sell. I travel a lot, and this was my first time at this Buffalo. Positives: my selling experience was very fair and the employees were extremely kind and apologetic to customers for being backed up (which wasn't even necessary as the wait was really nothing compared to like.. Brooklyn). I did a walk in (recommended to schedule an appointment) and I waited about 20 min, which I thought was great. I brought a mix of good brands and mall brands and they took a couple of items.. $58 in store credit, which was fair to me for the items they took. The negative: the amount of fast fashion here is insane. I would say AT LEAST 60%. I've never seen so much Shein, Fashion Nova, Who Wore What, F21, Charlotte Russe, H&M. I understand the buyers buy more by style than brand, but they are buying garbage quality clothing. There were a couple of high end pieces mixed in (I saw a cute For Love & Lemons Dress, some Joie pieces, really cute Giuseppe Zanotti ankle boots.), and some vintage, but not nearly as much as the fast fashion. Most of the high end items were overpriced when compared to other Buffalos that I've been to. There's also a bunch of Zara, J. Crew, Banana, LOFT that isn't usually considered fast fashion, but it isn't generally great. I would come here again to sell, and the employees were much nicer than at some other Buffalo's I've been to, but I'm sad to say I left empty handed which almost never happens. The style of clothing they sell is consistent with trends, but I won't buy those brands and would just expect to see better brands at a Buffalo Exchange in the middle of Boston. read more

Vintage not so much a lot of the clothing is from basic outlets and not from older generations if your into true antique seeking however, they have a lot of cute selections. Clothes: Now for plus size folks you are straight up outta luck they have up to size large and a lot of times the large items looked more like mediums.for my large footed friends their shoe sizes went as far as 9 or 10 so not a lot of range there either. Not sure if they buy used bigger sizes so for those looking to sell their items be aware and call ahead if they fall into plus size. If they expand in size ranges I'd definetly have some interest in returning. Price: They had a lot of cute accessories but some were clips or packages of things I could find at a 99 cent store charging $7 and up. I was able to get a few cute pair of earrings and a harajuku tote bag which was a good find but considering it had an ink stain inside I think $26 was a bit high for it. Service: The Staff seemed cool though in terms of having great taste in clothes and style. The decor was also super cute and well set up. They had a few dressing rooms which was nice.They were pretty busy so no one was outright welcoming people or what not but also I've had nicer experiences at small shops with a single cashier ringing people up and greeting all at once so... I'm probably not gona be back here anytime soon due to the limited options as a plus size girl myself, but it was cool to checkout for a local shop and say that you did at least once. For anyone on a budget and thrift shopping I'd recommend exploring elsewhere. read more

This store is chock full of junk labels at stupid prices. Why would I ever pay $32 for a used Forever 21 sweater with pills? It is like shopping in the Marshalls juniors section, only everything is twice the price and USED. I literally tried consigning a Prada dress and some Stuart Weitzman shoes, amongst a host of other things, and they turned me down on all 30 items I brought in. I hate seeing stores in the neighborhood go out of business, but this store clearly does not understand it's clientele and deserves to go. They won't last long trying to sell the junk they are trying to sell at the prices they are trying to get, and paying Coolidge Corner rent. It won't be long before a For Lease sign is back in that window, only this time I won't feel bad. read more

For what it is, it's great! If you're expecting dollar finds then you won't find that here. That's because it's not the kind of place where you have to rummage through piles and deal with disorganization. If you're okay with $10-$30 deals on some decent brands then it's the place to be! You'll find some fast fashions on the rack, but just skim past those and you'll find some good stuff. The clothes are a styled for a young-ish crowd. I got three pants (PAIGE, LOFT) and three shirts (Madewell, etc) for $120 (see picture). Another time I got a last minute dress for a wedding for $15. Again, don't expect a true thrift store where you'll walk away with 10 pieces for $10, so take it for what it is! read more

Finally tried selling some clothing at a thrift shop and I tell ya folks - NEVER again. They took 2 items out of a huge bag. No interest in my luxury brand shoes but lots of interest in an old ribbed top from 17 years ago. They explained that they're interested in this year's and last years's fashion, so I'm not sure why they were interested in my top from 17 years ago. Also the place REALLY smells quite bad, so that further tarnished the whole experience. I'll stick to donating my clothing for tax deductions. Glad I had the experience though :/ read more

i've been to this location a lot to shop--this is def my go-to place to go thrifting for clothes. they have a lot of great options and range of style. you can also find some great brands and trendy stuff. the folks that work there are always super sweet--i've asked for second opinion when trying clothes on and they were very helpful. i've also sold clothes here a handful of times. they are selective and will go for more trendy items. also, they will be a bit more selective when inventory is full, so i suggest not going during times when people aren't typically buying a lot of clothes such as after the holidays. they will stick to what is in season too, so be mindful of the types of clothes you are trying to sell so it can save you a trip! a lot of the times that i've went to sell, i did leave with most of the clothes i brought in so i would say don't expect them to take everything. overall, i will be returning here to both shop and sell and i recommend you check it out as well if you are a fan of thrifting! read more

One of the cleanest & orderly fashion consignment shops I have visited. I came here on behalf of my of WomanBaby & the young women behind the counter made my visit quick & pleasant. As soon as you walk in, you are greeted & invited to pop a squat. There were four or five customers ahead of me that were selling articles & the duo employees kept the line moving expeditiously as possible. In the interim of your items being sorted & appraised, the employees inform the customers of the particular type of clothing, shoes & accessories they are looking for. After all is tallied up, you are offered cash or a higher percent if agreeing to a store credit. Out of three bags of clothing, 80% were bought & I opted for the cash. On the retail aspect, the inventory is huge for both Women & Men with a dedicated shoe section for each. As I perused, the prices were actually not that bad for the quality of items & there were a few 'high' end pieces by the handbag section & Women's shoes. The jewelry was a hit & miss, yet overall you can find just about any type of clothing here. There's no appointment needed for selling. If you have articles leftover that were not purchased & you are in the donating spirit, you can take them a few blocks down to Urban Renewals. Great customer service. read more

Don't bother coming here if you're looking for timeless, vintage pieces. After digging through the racks, I've mostly come across low quality fast fashion brands at unreasonable markups. I even found a shirt that had a target tag for $8 that was being sold for $11! Ridiculous. I feel like this place definitely caters to the younger, more inexperienced crowd based on the types of clothing offered and the high prices. In addition, the store felt cramped since there wasn't a designated line for checkout. With the hot weather and covid still going around, I felt pretty uncomfortable inside. However, I did find a pair of like new Vans slip-ons for $18 (they retail for $50) and the person ringing me up was nice. The verdict? I will do my best to not sound salty about none of my clothes being accepted, but ya know. This was my second time attempting to get my pretty nice, pretty pricey clothes that I no longer wear back in rotation for someone else to use. I'd rather do that and make someone's day in the future than have it thrown into a landfill or subject to gentrification of other thrift stores. Last time I tried, the chief complaint they gave me was that the items I brought were out of season. It was summer and they were looking for fall clothes, but I brought mostly spring and winter items. All of this was duly noted, so I was sure to only bring things for the upcoming seasons this time around. Brookline Buffalo Exchange does not have AC, which is a horrible first entry when you've just lugged a suitcase full of clothes and shoes almost a mile to the store to be "STRICTLY ON TIME" for your selling appointment. They were not fazed about the timing, nor busy with other appointments. The attendant took my suitcase, explained the process, asked for my info, and said I could look around the store while they looked through my clothes. All was fine. When he was done after about 5-6 minutes, he told me they didn't want anything and had packed it back up for me and I could leave whenever I wanted. So be it. What was most upsetting to me, though, was what I saw while perusing the store. All-- and I mean ALL-- of the clothing items I saw were from fast fashion brands like SHEIN, forever 21, missguided, etc. Not a single one was from a reputable brand or of any smidgen of quality. Honestly, this made me feel better about them not accepting any of my clothes. I don't support fast fashion anymore because of human rights and climate issues, but I understand and support the necessity for individuals to buy from them should they need more affordable clothing. HOWEVER, all the clothes at this store from these abusive brands was marked up from what you would find it as NEW. I hope no one is dumb enough to spend $20-30 on a crop top they can buy straight from the store for $10. I think Buffalo Exchange needs to rethink its buying strategy. As it stands, they are allowing support for brands that do not need our support and are actively damaging our world and world's people. I support making these clothes available again to prevent them from going to landfill, but not at insanely marked up prices. That is purposefully exploitive of the people BX is supposedly designed to make good fashion available to. In addition, the clothing selection process is very subjective and, so far, seems to only sow distaste in this particular store. I've had better experiences with BX in other places, but this one was really disappointing. I hope the younger gen people I saw going in there have a little forethought about the things they choose to buy, should they buy anything from BX. The reason it gets over 1 star is because the young man who looked at my clothes on this visit was as kind as could be. I can't say the same about the man who looked through all my stuff the first time I went. But this boy deserves a raise for his hospitality. Almost made me wanna try again. I wish I had taken the selling reviews more seriously before coming here. I made an appointment to sell my clothes (over 35 items, a lot of which were never-worn and very good quality). Having spent over $30 on Uber to first their Somerville location (which was closed and didn't bother to give me a heads up to cancel my appt.) and then to this location, you can imagine my irritation when they only bought ONE item (a never-worn Champion hoodie which retails for about $60 and then gave me $7 in cash). Um I'm sorry but wtf? I really don't understand their standards for what clothes they buy because a lot of the items I saw while I was browsing were literally from fast fashion sites like SHEIN or cheap TJ Maxx items that are marked up for no reason. The staff were friendly enough but honestly I'm never coming here again and I HIGHLY advise anyone looking to sell to LOOK ELSEWHERE. Use Depop, FB market, donate instead - literally anywhere else. This review covers my experience selling things to Buffalo Exchange. Once you walk in, there are chairs to the left. This is the area where you wait. The protocol if you're a seller is not clear, some stood waiting at the counter and had to be told to take a seat and wait their turn. Others asked those sitting down if they were here to sell as well. It's up to you to remember who was there before you and hope people are courteous enough to not cut in. I had to wait ~30 minutes with 3 ladies ahead of me. Unfortunately each brought a duffle bag worth of clothing and goods. Small talk is exchanged here and there with each customer. Each piece of clothing is unfolded and inspected, folded again to be returned to the customer if it's not worth selling OR placed in the bin of accepted clothes to be hanged. It's a lengthy process so prepared to wait. FYI, they never accepted every piece of clothing offered from what I observed, they are stringent on their criteria of what they accept. I'll have to say, the people I saw selling that day were definitely interesting. There was a gentleman wearing an ocular device, exactly the one out of the movie National Treasure. His lady companion looked like Beetlejuice coming out of a rock concert. Another lady looked like she was a drug addict. Needless to say, it'd be pretty fun to work here for the summer. I personally came to sell 2 pair of flats. They're too big for me, not worth the return shipping, and a pain in the arse to get rid of through craigslist. The 2 pairs were part of a BYGOF deal so essentially I got them both for free. My purpose at Buffalo Exchange was to appreciate what cash I could get out of them without any high expectations. If it's your 1st time selling, they request a government issued ID to set up an account for you. After inspecting your goods, the staff will tell you the retail value of your all your goods. 50% of your retail value can be used as trade value/store credit. Most customers chose this option and promptly shopped around after. 30% of your retail value can be exchanged as cash. The purpose of creating the account is to store the retail value of your goods in there so you can either walk away to shop or walk over to the other cashier to redeem your cash. My 2 pair of flats retailed ~$15 each, both brand new. Cash back value was $9. Store credit would've been $15. I might seem like a fool for not going for store credit, but I couldn't be bothered sifting through everything and their collection mainly caters to the hipster crowd with signs of light wear visible. Again, I walked in with low expectations of gaining anything back; $9 sufficed to pay for my drink and dinner thereafter. read more

One of the workers said to the other worker something about loss prevention and suspicious behavior.
