How about five museums under one roof!! In fact, there is so much to see that your admission ticket is valid for two days. So, what's there? Let's start with Draper Natural History Museum with exhibits on ecology, wildlife, and geology. We were treated to a wonderful exhibition of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem through immersive, interactive exhibits. We were treated to an awesome Birds of Prey segment and saw handlers talk about the Bald Eagle, Peregrine Falcon, and Turkey Vulture. This was staged outdoors in a big courtyard with bleacher seats. Next, we walked through the Buffalo Bill Museum, saw a highlight video of his amazing life. He was a frontiersman, scout, and showman who became one of the most iconic figures of the American West, gaining fame as a Pony Express rider and Army scout. He was a flamboyant performer and became one of America's first pop culture icons, founding the wildly popular "Buffalo Bill's Wild West". The show toured internationally and at times also starred Sitting Bull and Annie Oakley. The Whitney Western Art Museum celebrated the American West through paintings, sculptures, and mixed media. We saw beautiful examples of art that documented cowboy and Native American culture. Then we saw the Plains Indian Museum that documented the cultures and histories of Native peoples from the Great Plains. We saw examples of clothing, living quarters, children's toys, Lakota beadwork, and Cheyenne regalia. Lastly, we looked at the innovation and history of weapons in the Cody Firearms Museum. It houses one of the most comprehensive collections of American and international firearms, with over 7,000 guns and 30,000 related artifacts. If you are interested in the evolution of firearms technology, their role in military history, hunting, sport, and popular culture, you will spend hours here Together, these museums tell the story of Yellowstone and the American West --all in one place under one roof.

They had pioneer type exhibits and even birds that are being rehabilitated or permanently hkmed because of injury. They give you 1 week to visit 2 days and it is absolutely worth the money! When we pulled up it looked really small, but when we got up to it, we saw that it was much bigger. Overall it was a great experience. At Old Trail Town, you will find artifacts from the Old West as well as grave sites of several notable Western figures. You will also find original cabins used by Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid as well as a Wyoming saloon frequented by Cassidy's "Hole-in-the-Wall Gang". Some of my favorites were the log cabin home of "Curley" a Crow Indian army scout who helped guide Lt Col. George A. Custer and the U.S. 7th Cavalry to the battle of the Little Big Horn in 1876, and the old schoolhouse.

I have had the fortune to see the Wild West Show - The Musical - during each of these three past years - And every year it seems to get better and better. This year's Spectacular was a technically spot on show. This year the have built a wonderfully designed and constructed new set, and improved in other areas, too. This show is really great. A well-cast and entertaining talented group of actors, many of whom get to showcase their singing and dancing abilities as well, are featured here. Beautiful costumes, lighting, sound, music (including some live piano playing to accompany them), and even more. Great direction and a fantastic job of producing to tie everything together. There is an associated ice cream shop in the lobby for refreshments before and during the show, and this year they added the ability to come on stage at intermission, belly up to the bar, and buy yourself a Sarsaparilla soda. I am compelled to point out the group of dancers here...beautifully choreographed and superbly executed. I was mesmerized by the main dance ensemble, as well as a couple of others that joined them in some of the many numbers. Nimble, poised, and incredibly synchronized. Simply outstanding. There is also a ballerina who does a "tightrope" number who stays en pointe for an incredible period of time. Wow. The last two numbers, Homeward Bound and Row Of White Trees are worth the price of admission alone. If you come to Cody, I heartily recommend this show. It is entertaining, educational, and historically accurate. This is the kind of Old West sights that I want to see when I come out for my vacation. I guarantee that you will like it as much as I did.

Anyway, the place has a gigantic fake T-Rex skeleton, so it attracts kids and dinosaur enthusiasts. They have all sorts of science box sets you can buy, such as "Grow your own rocks!" and what-not. They also have some very cool minerals and fossils for sale, but unless you feel like spending a bundle on something made in Peru, keep moving. The cashier seemed really bored.

Learning about the building of the Sidon Canal motivated us to trek out to the Powell area to see the canal ourselves. Pioneer history is still much in evidence in that area.

We had spent the day in Yellowstone, and we were headed to Cody for our hotel. I had read about the…read moredam online and wanted to make a stop. When you pull into the parking lot, they have a volunteer that picks you up in a golf cart to shuttle you to the front door. The day that we were there, a storm was moving in, and the winds were gusting something fierce! We really appreciated the ride to the center. Once inside, there is a very informative video that you can watch that explains all the trials and tribulations that they went through to build this dam. It's a very incredible story and worth the watch. You can then walk out on the top of the dam and look over both sides. As I said, the day we were there, it was super windy, so we were half afraid we were going to be blown over the top! But it was a very cool stop, and I'm glad we did it. Definitely make the stop if you're in the area!
