Decided to come to the Rodeo as we were seeing signs about the Cody Night Rodeo everywhere in downtown. So glad we did. Cody is the Rodeo capital of the world. There's 4 pick up spots in the downtown area that takes you to and from the rodeo, so you don't have to worry about driving/parking. It's $7 roundtrip and totally worth it. I've been to a few rodeos and this one is legit. It can be 90 -120 minutes depending on how many contestants participate. They have people from all over - Canada, New York, California, Texas and of course WY. Lots of events and all interesting and fun to watch. This is very much a family friendly as they had several kid events. The announcer keeps things running smoothly and seemed to really enjoy being an MC. It was a fun night and definitely worth while, especially if you've never been to a rodeo! read more

Very entertaining, as well as humorous from start to finish. They had bull riding, barrel racing, various roping contests etc. very traditional environment, giving you the feeling of stepping back 20 years with their respect for faith and love of country/patriotism. It was my fiancé's first rodeo EVER, so we were pretty excited when we were heading in...but the announcer was super political and there was a racist joke by the rodeo clown, super bummed. It was my first time in Wyoming...the equality state...the reality was disappointing. read more

The ones about wives and women need to go! This is a family function not adult roast. Yes, we did bow our heads in prayer at the start of the competition, but felt that was a pleasant touch. The rodeo was great. The beer was good and we really enjoyed the company of the people. However, it was inappropriate to spend so much time talking about Jesus and ignoring the first amendment. It was also inappropriate to have the clown make every joke and routine against and putting down women. In our rv traveling thru Yellowstone NP, exited on the east side and stayed at the Cody KOA. Highly recommend the rodeo! It was great entertainment. Took our niece and nephew to the Cody Stamped Rodeo last Saturday. The kids really enjoyed it, and I would say it was fine, but the beginning of the show was not just stand for the National Anthem, which is what you would expect...it was like being at a religious revival. The announcer said a LONG prayer, then invited people to accept Jesus Christ as their Savior, and said something about America being a place where we worship Christ, and then a long "why we stand" video. I am a Christian and I was really taken aback, and my husband was not too happy...America is where people have the constitutional right to worship whoever they want, it is called religious freedom. There were many visitors from other countries at the rodeo, and it seemed very decisive rather than inclusive. It was a real turn off for us in the first 15 minutes. Also, later in the show the announcer made a rude political joke, about a member of Congress that we thought was very inappropriate. I feel like they should stick with the rodeo and celebrating the young people that have worked so hard to compete and keep religion and politics out of it!! read more

Real Americana! My first rodeo and I LOVED it. Pricing is reasonable. Real cowboys and cowgirls. The announcers explain the events. Great for families with little kids, big kids and adults. I am a little naive. I have never been to a Rodeo before and as part of a tour I did, the Cody Rodeo was one of our stops. I was excited. I thought it would be fun. My first clue was the bull that was hooked up to a pen by his nose as you walked in. People paid $10 to take a photo with him. As the rodeo started, there was the prayer and then the 20 minutes of riders with flags announcing all of the sponsors. The constant reminders of the sponsors happened about every few moments. Then it starts and for a moment I enjoyed myself, until one is the bucking horses bucked himself right into a fence and knocked himself out... all to get the flank off. The flank is a strap or rope that is tightly cinched around the animals' abdomens which causes the horse to "buck vigorously to try to rid themselves of the torment." After about 10 very stressful moments they got the flank off and the horse got up. Looked at all of us to almost say...look I am good...and calmly galloped into the gates. There was also a moment where a young rodeo cowboy fell off his bucking bull and we had another tense 10 minutes waiting to see if he was ok. He finally got up and limped out of the arena. Both were opportunities for more advertising for the Equine Vet and the Urgent Care sponsors. The clown called all the kids to the ring. It was cute watching all the kids until he told them to lay down in the ring...which is disgusting. Thankfully the kids on our tour had been warned and none of them did it. How gross. The kids then chased around 2 baby cows to remove a ribbon on their tail. Thankfully this ended quite quickly. All in all, the music was good. The rodeo clown was boring and my first and last time at a rodeo was not a great experience. read more

Yeeehaw! This ain't my first rodeo! I actually came here for the Scottish Highland Games. When I went, early one Saturday morning, they were hosting hammer throwing, with Pat O'Hara's Brewery out there. Yasss They weren't throwing hammers like you'd typically think of, they were weights on a pole, like the olympic style of hammer throw. Everyone was dressed up in their clan's kilts, and downing beers and kettle corn. The facilities seem like they get some real use. Everything looks like it's been painted a hundred times, but the top coat of paint is still fresh. The place was picked up- for a rodeo grounds, they had minimal poop on the grounds. The bathrooms were spacious and efficient. They're used to crowds. Parking is super easy. They have a huge dedicated to this place. No stampedes here. The loudspeakers were plenty loud, and the announcer didn't seem to censor their political or religious beliefs with their side talk and banter over the speakers. If you're in Cody, you gotta check this place out. read more

Rodeo is in everyone's to go list. It was good, not great, but fun. Parking is easy. Food is stadium food. Seating is general admission. The rodeo lasted two hours, Humor was cheesy. The night we were there no one stayed on riding contests. So no scores. I'm not sure I would go again but glad I went once. read more

There was one can't miss activity while in Cody, Wyoming. The Cody Stampede Rodeo, a perfect way to enjoy the evening and add to our western experience. This was our first time in Cody and the first time either of us attended a Rodeo. My husband and I had a wonderful time. Cody is known as the "Rodeo Capital of the World " This rodeo runs every night thru the summer. This rodeo offers plenty of entertainment, is family friendly and is about 2 hours long. There is steer riding, Barrel Racing, bucking bronco riding, calf roping, bull riding and it's all very exciting to watch. There was cowboys and cowgirls all competing in different events and their skills were amazing to witness. Some of these cowboys and cowgirls were very young. These children grow up with this tradition in Cody. There is an announcer and a clown who together offer some corny comedy. There are several locations located throughout the town to purchase tickets in advance. If you choose to purchase in advance you can walk right in. You can also purchase your tickets at the ticket booth when you arrive, but you may have a line to wait on. There are concession stands with food and drinks for your convenience. We had just finished dinner before arriving so I can't comment about the concession services available. The parking lot is huge and offers plenty of parking. We saw busses and all sizes of Rv's as well as cars parked in the lot. It very easy to walk in and into the stands. I highly suggest you dress comfortably and don't wear anything fancy. It's also a good idea to wear sneakers or something closed and comfortable. Also, I would definitely bring a jacket or sweater if it's a cool evening. It can get chilly sitting on the metal benches if it's cool out. When we purchased our tickets we were told to sit in the buzzards roost because we would be up close & personal with the animals. It was definitely a great tip and the seating was perfect. Also, if I remember correctly, these seats also had backs which made it a bit more comfortable. This was such a fun experience for us and I highly recommend you give it a try. read more

Gross, expensive, but fun. Glad to do once, but no need to do twice. The place is disgusting. The food service area has hygiene that would give garbage men pause--flies EVERYWHERE without a concern for stopping them. The seating area is covered in bird shit and the flies flock to your food there as well. Announcer was good for explaining what was going on for newbies like us. Rodeo clown was "meh" and not very good--which is a sentence I never though I would actually put together. The other reviews, especially the critical ones, that you are reading are accurate. If you're in Cody, and have nothing else to do, go ahead and knock it out to say you did it, but you won't come away "happy." read more

Not impressed. I was not prepared to listen to political jokes, especially since I am of the same party as what the jokes were made. I also didn't appreciate having to sit through about twenty minutes of riders parading around the flags of their sponsors......exactly what did my money go towards if they have all those sponsors? And what was up with all the cowgirls just riding around to music? This is not synchronized swimming. I was just simply not impressed and I hate to say never, but I will never go again. I really enjoyed going here, however we only stayed for the first hour because we got tired. I had never been to a rodeo before and this was a great experience to see how a rodeo works. I absolutely loved being led in prayer at the beginning and watching a patriotic video about America. This was an extremely patriotic experience and just what I needed. The only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars was because I felt like the animals were being mistreated. At the very beginning there was a bull chained up in a tiny pen by its nose for kids to ride on. The calves were being tied up and throw to the ground too. I know this is an old sport that's been going on for a while but it was a little sad to see. I would still recommend going here if you want a patriotic and fun experience. I also loved Colter's accent and he seemed like an awesome guy. read more

First things first: If you're an animal lover, you may not enjoy this. It was a little uncomfortable watching frightened calves run for their lives, only to be violently jerked off their feet by a lasso, then tied up. At least a couple ran off limping after the experience, obviously injured. But if you can get past that, and that'll be a big IF for some people, this is a pretty unique, authentic Western experience. We saw the aforementioned calf roping, barrel racing, bronco bucking and bull riding -- and the skills on display were pretty damn impressive. I could've done with less of the hokey banter between the rodeo clown and the PA announcer (and a LOT less of the prayer at the start), but I get it...they have to fill time while the different events get set up. All in all, a memorable experience, even if some of the memories are a bit eye-opening. read more

Yee-haw!!! The Cody Nite Rodeo takes place at Stampede Park (located at the west end of town) every night in July and August, except July 1-5 when the Cody Stampede Rodeo is held. There's plenty of free parking out front. Ticket office and gates open at 7PM and the rodeo starts at 8PM. There are 5,500 reserved covered grandstand seats with good views of the rodeo action. Just beyond the main gates, there's a gift shop which sells souvenirs, apparel, cowboy/cowgirl hats, & more. They also have concessions too! The Rodeo lasts about two hours with the running of the flags and contests such as bareback riding, tie-down roping, team roping, bull riding, steer wrestling, rodeo clown act, kids calf scramble, saddle bronc riding, barrel racing, and more. Very disappointing. Cookie the clown needs to find a new career. The lead announcer was great! Promoting the sport of rodeo. Educating us on the sport of rodeo. Informing us who these dedicated rodeo athletes were, etc. But... Cookie sucked the fun out of the entire experience. Political jokes at a rodeo? Really? Truly mean spirited jokes after we had just been told that the rodeo culture represented the ways of our savior Jesus Christ? What bible are y'all reading? My recommendation as a paying customer? Didn't know rodeos could be this fun. I went into the experience with no expectations and came out pleasantly entertained. I used to wonder what all the hee-hawing was about when it came to people watching rodeos but I guess when it's up close you really come to appreciate the entertainers and their craft. Really this is like a down to earth cirque du soleil without a lot of unnecessary bells and whistles. You replace overblown artistry with real gritty but marvelous acts of strength, skill, and dexterity. Don't get me wrong, the cirque athletes do some insane things but when you see the speed and explosiveness of these cowboys and cowgirls on their horses it just is something that will get you on your feet in raucous applause. We came at night so the grandstand seating was a-ok. The concessions stands sell cheap food like a crispy chicken sandwich and curly fries. It's a fun night out and if you approach it as such I think you can have a really unique good time. Coming from a big city like LA, you don't really unplug and just integrate into a center of America cultural event like this. Sure, does it feel like you are in a completely different country? I think so. But if you can put aside your political views, feelings about the treatment of animals, and other differences then this is just something that really gives you a conceptual slice of Wyoming you won't probably get elsewhere. read more

This is a must do if you are in Cody! I love how they opened the rodeo with a prayer and the national anthem. They had bareback riding, barrel racing, bull riding, and they even had an activity for the children. The cost for tickets is $23 for adults, and only seven dollars for veterans. Personally, I could've had less of the clown, but I know that he was entertaining the crowds. He did a fine job. All the cowboys and cowgirls were amazing. read more

I grew up going to the rodeo in AZ. It's one of my favorite things. I always dreamed of being a barrel racer. So when we took our road trip to Yellowstone, I couldn't wait to introduce my family to a rodeo and thought what better place than Cody?! Pros: The barrel racers didn't disappoint! The bucking bronco riders were good! The kid contestants were amazing and so fun to watch. The announcer was clear and kept the show running smoothly 2 hours was the perfect length The bad: The prayer before the show asking the lord to help guide our "leader in Washington". Yes, while "the leader", aka Trump, does need help, let's leave politics out of this. The clown told seriously racist and sexist jokes. I got to explain to my kids (again!) about racism and why the jokes were bad. All in all we had a really fun night watching the rodeo and a great first experience for the family. My mother and I decided to go to the Cody Rodeo. It really wasn't that much fun. It starts out with the announcer talking about how great the USA is and all the freedoms that we have then switches to talking about God...this is where it went south. He said, "When I talk about God, I mean Jesus Christ my lord and savior." Apparently, this guy flunked Civics because when talking about our freedoms he must have forgotten the First Amendment..Freedom of Religion. The clown was introduced and the first joke he told was terrible...the punch line was that the President of the United States has shit for brains. Another joke, he made a joke about the announcer having a fat girlfriend and then displayed leopard printed underwear that were huge and said she could be found in seats 5, 6, and 7. Really? We left shortly after that because it was so unnecessary. BTW...they also talked about either the horse or girl having one eye...totally rude. This act needs to get with the times and provide better showmanship. I could have just stayed home and watched Yellowstone with Jimmy riding the bull, which would have been a better use of my time. read more

It was all terrific fun until the injuries started. One horse had to be removed from the field by a tractor-pulled sled. A bull broke both back legs and ended up pulling himself off the field -- a horror to watch. And finally a rider could not detach from a bull, was flung around and didn't get up when he finally landed in the dirt. He was bundled up on a stretcher and removed. Early on the announcer said an ambulance was on its way, but it took 15-20 minutes to arrive. No idea about his condition this morning after the show. This was the first time I've gone to a rodeo. It was probably a one time thing anyway, but I would certainly never go to this amateur event again. read more
