During these nightly events, riders compete to qualify for spots on the professional circuit, so its like the minor league of rodeo. It was fun watching all the roping and riding. It was especially nice watching the youth out there competing for the best in their catagoy. Some of those kids were almost as good as the adults. I'm sure some of them will make it to the professional circuit one day. I get it. This is amateur rodeo so there are fewer riders than the professional circuit would have, and there is more side show to fill the 2 hour time slot. They announcer encouraged crowd participation. This nightly rodeo runs for 2 months during the summer. They do have 4 days when the professional circut comes to town.

Kids line up in the arena and are given instructions by a clown. Two calves are released with red ribbons tied onto their tails and the kids who capture the flags get prizes. There were about 100 kids that participated! Hours are 8-10 pm and run every night in the summer. The clowns jokes may be inappropriate for some kids. $24 for adults but if you are a veteran you get half off admission! They recognize veterans and first responders during the show and everyone sings the Star Spangled Banner and a prayer is said before the show begins. Fun event to watch. There is a concession stand with sandwiches, popcorn, and drinks.

I can't recommend the Shark's Peak experience any more highly. A week before I attended, I had…read morestopped in for a beer at Cody Craft Brewing, the venue for the Wednesday evening events. As I sipped my beer, I watched Jessica host one of her Sip and Paint get together. Everyone there seemed to be having a great time - lots of laughter, lots of smiles, and lots of happy people. Afterwards, I spoke to Jessica and said that I would love to try this but that I was a "can't draw a stick man" level artist. I also said that I was impressed with how well everyone's paintings seemed to have turned out. Jessica encouraged me to attend if I had the chance (I am in Cody on vacation for a couple weeks, so I did indeed have the opportunity), and that I just might surprise myself. So, despite my reticence, I made reservations for a family member and myself for the following week. When we arrived, the space was all ready to go. Tables, chairs, tabletop easels, paint brushes, a cup of water (these are water based acrylics), and a tray of all of the needed paints to complete our American masterpieces. Although the night's basic idea was an American flag based sunset with a Buffalo, We were encouraged to use our artistic creativity and to "paint whatever you feel - express yourself." I stuck with the Buffalo. Jessica patiently takes you through the steps of the painting with the brushes to use, the paints used for each step, the blending, and the brush techniques to use to get the different effects. She uses a headset and sound system so she is easily heard by all. My big fear was creating the Buffalo. I was afraid it would look like anything but a Buffalo. Who'd of thought that with just a couple of circles, an oval, and some basic angles, you can build one. We were given excellent and well-paces step by step directions and suggestions as we painted. While there is a finished example prominently displayed elevated up front, Jessica also (effortlessly it seemed) created one as she demonstrated the step. By the time it was done, there were big Buffalos, small Buffalos, flying and levitating Buffalos, branded Buffalos, and skies filled with stars and moons and comets. Just like the week before, our two hours were filled with laughter, smiles, and a lot of people surprised at how well their paintings turned out. And believe me, no one was more surprised than me. What a fun time - a great beer, a chance to meet new new people, an encouraging and charming instructor, and a result that was 100 times better than I had expected. If you get the chance, do yourself a favor and go. I guarantee you will love this.

Old Trail Town is a relocated collection of a pioneer town. The buildings were relocated and…read morerestored from around Wyoming. The artifacts have little or no restoration to add to the authenticity of the town. There is a small graveyard on the site where the remains of several notable people have been relocated. Their life's story and how they died is on a plaque by each grave. I learned a lot about the old west here. The admission was reaspnable.

When we pulled up it looked really small, but when we got up to it, we saw that it was much bigger. Overall it was a great experience. At Old Trail Town, you will find artifacts from the Old West as well as grave sites of several notable Western figures. You will also find original cabins used by Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid as well as a Wyoming saloon frequented by Cassidy's "Hole-in-the-Wall Gang". Some of my favorites were the log cabin home of "Curley" a Crow Indian army scout who helped guide Lt Col. George A. Custer and the U.S. 7th Cavalry to the battle of the Little Big Horn in 1876, and the old schoolhouse.

There is an art exhibition that features collections from local artists. And finally, there is an exhibition that features yhe history of local Native American tribes to the present day. There is an eatery and a gift shop. Be prepared to pay a hefty price at these places. The admission is well worth it if you take the time to see and read at each exhibit. You could literally spend 2 days to see it all.
