My family of five traveled to Milan to begin a vacation in Tuscany. Landing in Milan, the plan was to quickly grab a car at Budget Rental Car and then head on a 2+ hour drive to our villas in Tuscany. Arriving at the rental car facility, there were about 8-10 people waiting ahead of me and 4 people behind the counter that serviced both Budget rentals and Avis rentals. After 20 minutes, most of the people on the line realized that the line had not moved at all. After another 20 minutes, two people had finally left the counter with car keys. 40 more minutes, no one left with car key due to half the staff taking breaks. And the line behind me was getting longer with another 5+ potential car renters looking to get a vehicle. 90 minutes later, we got our car. Did the reps behind the counter spend more time selling car insurance instead of getting you out of their quickly? Absolutely. And we were assured that the Renault Scenic was the biggest car they had, same size as a Ford Galaxy which is a European sized minivan. Well, guess what...it's not. Both of my sons are 6'3", wife and daughter are 5'7" and what we needed was a Renault Espace, not the Scenic. But since the insurance salesman behind the counter did not know the difference, we were stuck with this tiny car for the next week. I rented a car from Budget LAX in late April 2026 and received a letter notifying me of a $250 for cleaning fee. I rent vehicles regularly and am a FastTrack member. The car was returned in good condition except for some dust on the floor mats, nothing excessive. I called Budget customer service to dispute the charge. They said I left the car with dog hair and dirt all over the seats. This is wrong. I don't own a pet, nor did I leave dirt on the seats. I rented a car from Budget/ Avis on April 6 (rental agreement #897410511) The car was picked up at approximately 8 pm on April 6. As I was driving from the rental station to the hotel, I noticed that malfunction symbols popping up on the dashboard. The following morning I called Avis/Budget for an exchange of vehicle but I was told that none of the current representatives spoke english and to call back. The next day I call back and they say that there is no current tow truck available and to call back. I call back the next day and they said that someone will call me back, yet no one did. As there was a nearby Budget car rental location (office is at Piazza Armando Diaz,6 (https://www.google.com/maps/search/Piazza+Armando+Diaz,6?entry=gmail&source=g), 201123 Milano MI, Italy ), I went there and they told me that my best bet was to drive to the original Budget as they are the only office that can help with this vehicle. So the following morning I drove the car back to Milan Airport, and en route the vehicle showed a failed brakes signal as well as full malfunction of the vehicle. Which was incredibly dangerous for me. When I got to the airport, the manager Sebastian saw all of the issues and confirmed that he would call to Budget to make sure that charges are removed. However, this was a false claim. The case number on this claim is #717-920-18 I spoke with Hassan at Budget on April 17. This is a dishonest rental service, likely racist again foreigners. The agent at rental lied to us multiple times that final cost would be €750 with full gas tank at return, claiming the credit card deposit less gas fee is what we would eventually pay. However, they charged more at car return. We waited in the line again for 45 mins trying to explain the situation, only got smirked by their staff. read more

We have now been waiting 45 minutes at Milan airport Budget Avis and only three people have been processed. They are at #23 and have 30 customers waiting. There are ten terminals but only three people working. With each person who goes up they spend several minutes trying to upgrade them, sell them more insurance. We never rent cars and certainly never will again from Budget. A poorly run process. A rip off. A waste of time. And far from cheap. read more

I encourage prospective customers to choose a different rental car provider. We recently picked up a car from Budget Milan Malpensa to drive 9km to our "airport hotel" ahead of a very early morning next day flight. We picked up the car, drove to our hotel, parked the car, and returned the car the next morning at 3:00 am ahead of our flight. We did not get into an accident, drive off the road, or do anything else that would have caused any harm to the rental car. The next morning around 7:00am, Budget charged an additional $1,029 to my card. There was no receipt or information provided by Budget until I requested it via telephone and no further information provided until I disputed the charges. Budget is claiming damage to the car. The damage is on the inside (not visible from the outside) of the wheel well of one of the tires. This was not noticed by us during our visual inspection of the car, and who knows if the blurry photos that were provided are actually of the same car. In any event, we are still disputing the charges with Budget and hope that the company will do the right thing - if so, I may update this review. while we really cannot tell the extent of the damage from the poor quality photos, there was also very little information provided to establish the determination that there was 800 euro of damage. They also charged tax on that alleged damage, despite the receipt saying that portion was non-taxable. We did buy third-party insurance, so I can also make a claim through my insurance, but it is very disturbing to me to know that if our third-party insurance (or us) end up having to pay that they have profited from this unscrupulous business practice. It really makes you realize how easy it is for rental car companies to run these types of scams and how little recourse the consumer has. Please proceed with caution if you decide to rent a car from Budget. There are many other rental car companies that service the area, and I recommend that customers consider going with one of those other companies based on our experience. read more

Very good. We were expecting a very long line but there was no line. We had our reservation booked before we flew in. The person at the desk was very friendly and we got our car immediately. The directions to our car were easy to follow. read more

Avis/budget charged $44 admin fee for violations charged at $8.00 with no explanation of what the charges are. They do not give information of the charges. You can ask, but they tell you to check with the issuing authority. Avis at the Milan train station gave terrible guidance to where you pickup the car. You need to ask for a map. Very difficult to find. Working with customer service, you can tell that there is no understanding or willingness to assist, it's all about profit. We also had very long wait... the process to check out a car only competes with purchasing a house. Check yelp star review. Should be zero. If there is any other option, please use it. One star because the actual car,it did transport us well without incident. I guess Fiat should get the star.... I would give them 4 or 5 as I am well over 6 foot and had no issues fitting in. read more

OK Everybody I really want this to be shared with everyone you know. We picked up a car in Milan Italy I had a reservation and the amount was $1060. I had intended to use my visa that had a rental car coverage and refused the coverage from Budget/Avis. When I got to the counter the woman behind it told me that Italy did not allow you to use rental car insurance from your Visa. Which was an outright lie and of course I didn't know it at the time. So I accepted insurance which raised the bill by $700. When I turned the car in in Verona I was told by the agent there but that wasn't true and that if I were to rent a car from them and wanted to use my rental car coverage on my Visa, that was between me and my bank. I was livid. A car that was supposed to cost us $1060 cost us $1700. The agent in Verona made €100 adjustment but that was the best she could do. When I picked up a car in Inverness also Budget/Avis as I had made these reservations at home I would never have gone to them again. The agent there also told me that wasn't true and that she had never heard of such a thing. I used my visa coverage there and that is documented as well .On my return home I contacted Budget /Avis With a well documented complaint and said I wanted the money refunded that I fraudulently "was talked into" By a lie! I have gotten absolutely nowhere. They send me a copy of the rental agreement with the insurance signed. Of course it was ,that is not the issue. The issue is coercion and fraud by their agent in Milan to Out right lie. I am still livid and I am not done. I am going to look into small claims court to cause nothing but a headache more than likely to that company, but I am not going to just let this go. The moral of the story is, do not use budget or Avis for rental cars. They do not honor their customers or back them up when an employee has fraudulently given information that cost the customer considerably more money than it should have. read more

I thought the old ways of the car rental agencies are over, but Budget is still playing those tricks on their customers. There were several scratches in the right rear of the rental car I rented in Bergamo and returned in Milan Malpensa Airport, and there was a circle for damage in that area on my rental contract. Nevertheless, they charged me 400 Dollars for "new" scratches at that same place as I returned my car - even though I did not have any incidents while I used that car. Plus, they discredited my complaint that these scratches were already on there, using blurry photos as "proof". I can only recommend: 1) Rent from a different company 2) If you have to use Budget, be very careful to rent only an immaculate car with NO prior damage 3) Get the full coverage insurance (it would have cost me slightly less then paying for the damages I did not inflict). read more

We've been extorted by the staff at Budget/Avis Linate. Budget originally did not have the car we reserved and passed us off to Avis. We were told to sign the damage report before seeing the vehicle and they proceeded to send us on a goose chase for the car which they did not survey with us. Because of how the car was parked, we could not view/photograph the front of the car. They claimed they found a mark on the front bumper when we returned (although they ignored the marks that we documented on the car, which were not listed on the condition report) and made up an arbitrary amount for us to pay. I do not normally write reviews but the customer service rep refused to acknowledge my documentation proving them wrong. Please rent cars from other providers and avoid Budget/Avis Linate at all costs. read more
