I usually only rent from Budget. Their rates are great. But under this merger with Avis, and in this tight economic climate, their pushiness regarding the extra add-ons is getting really really heavy. So I felt great declining their overpriced additional coverage. But I realized I'd be busy with a bunch of longtime girl friends from college over the weekend in Three Rivers, MI, so I accepted the fuel option. Silly me. Like each one of us had a car so we all piled in 1 or 2 cars. My little rental was so small, it was really useless for those purposes. Hell, I really didn't even need a rental car at all. I should have just asked one of them to come get me at the airport. But no, I took the pre-paid fuel option offered sneakily by Budget, to the tune of $28.95. Ugh. You live and you learn. Upon returning the car, the fellow at the desk asked me for the mileage. What? The sign outside said "note fuel levels". Whatever. Then he asked me for an estimate of how much driving I did. "What? Man just process my dam rental car return." No, really, they use it to "track" something or other. "Well do you want to go outside and look in the car like they do at MOST BIG CITY rental car returns?" No, he didn't. He didn't have time to do that, there was a line. Ugh. Then he wanted to know if I had filled up the car. "Dude, really? Have you really not read the paperwork I just handed in? Are you really so worried about the mileage you haven't even looked to see that I prepaid for your stinking fuel thus o not have to fill the putt-putt-mobile up?" Like my thought ballons said before: "What? Man just process my dam rental car return." This whole thing was irritating and annoying and a big time waster. The people who were in line ahead of me just seemed to hand in their keys and paperwork and breeze on over to check-in for their flights. Why me? What is with the 20 questions bro? Ugh. We picked up our car, and it was dirty. I know it wasn't cleaned because there was a charging cord under the seat. Also, had several dents and they said it was in perfect condition. NOT. They don't answer the phone. I really don't have anything good to say read more

ABSOLUTELY HORRIFIC! They gave us a car filled with pubes and weed stems. Dirt and various stains filled throughout the entire car. The car smells like someone used it as a hookah lounge. We called about this issue and whoever we spoke with on the phone put us through to their "supervisor" who was actually someone totally random that had no idea what we were talking about. They connected us to customer service which we waited and got hung up on. We couldn't get ANY customer service. We leave early tomorrow morning, so we ended up deep cleaning the car ourselves. Pathetic service, Budget doesn't care about their customers and their employees don't want to work. Disappointing and dissatisfied. Book with budget if you want to become a car detailer. If you like a lack of customer service, not safe to drive vehicles, worries if the car is not going to break down on you in 25 degree Michigan's winter, then this is the place for you! NO greeting, no directions, no information about the rental or where the car is located. I patiently waited for Arnold to eat his breakfast, walk around and come back to the desk to take care of my issue - check engine light and battery light were both on. Instead of offering me a different vehicle he pointed out road assistance number (surprise he didn't suggest 911 as well) and sent me on my way. Would he like his mom or a loved one to get treated this way?? Sad, unacceptable, very poor service, I am not coming back. read more

This place offers a good rate but customer service needs some re-training. Tried to use paper coupons they gave me because they messed up my car selection the first time I rented here, but the counter agent did not even know how to use them and would not help at all. So, I had to call Budget corporate to ask for help to apply the coupons. Turned out I had to apply the coupons when reservation was made. So, I could only use the coupons on my next rental. The second time, I was given a car filled with smoke smell, although there was a non-smoking policy. I asked for a replacement. Unapologetically, the counter agent gave me a different car after I was told in the first place that there was no other car available. Total BS, there were many cars on the lot, they just tried to push the unpopular cars (gas guzzler, or smoked car). Totally feeling unappreciated as a repeated customer. Extremely dissatisfied and angry. I pre-paid my reservation and was refused a car when I arrived to pick up because the card that was accepted for pre-pay was not accepted by the customer service person working at the time because I was not flying in or out of the airport. He did explain that it's their policy, and I'm sure it's in your miles and miles of fine print somewhere, but it's extremely unfair and misleading to accept a payment online and then not provide a vehicle when I arrive to pick up the vehicle that I'VE ALREADY PAID FOR. Now they have my money and I'm stuck without a car. This is just dirty business. This is the last time Budget will get a penny from me. read more

Probably should have read the reviews. I can get past the dirty car they gave me but when I went back in to let the person know the car reeked of marijuana he put his hands up and said there's nothing he can do. I'm driving other people children around in a car that smells really strong of pot. Thanks budget! read more

I'd give 0 stars if possible. I booked through hotwire. Horrible experience to say the least! For starters they overbooked the full size car I booked a week and a half prior. So no car, say they upgraded me to a SUV that got horrific fuel mileage. Ok I'll roll with that punch. Now I'm getting put into the computer system. He informs me that at their airport location there is an extra $100.00 security deposit on top of the original $100.00 security deposit. Its now past noon on Saturday and I can't deposit cash into my bank account. I asked where it told me about the extra security deposit and he said it's in the terms and conditions that SOME airport locations have an extra security deposit. Now I fly and rent cars all over the United States at dozens of terminals, never have I found this to be the case at ANY of them. I usually go to enterprise in Jackson, MI while up this way and never have any issues. I have seamlessly rented cars for years. I called Budget customer service they said call hotwire. I call hotwire they say they can refund me and that's it. So now I'm having to find other means of transportation to very important business meetings that I probably won't be making it to on time if at all. Nobody took care of me even on the corporate side. Budget car and Avis are taken care of by the Avis station at the airport here. The kid I dealt with wouldn't give me his name after asking politely multiple times so that corporate knew who to talk to. But it didn't matter corporate "customer service" didn't even get as far as to ask what he looked like. He is about 6' 5" or a little taller skinny thin build brown hair and wears glasses. This place was 100% unprofessional and unwilling to help a very valued returning customer. Shame. read more
