Four stars for the price, exactly what you'd expect from an inexpensive hotel room. Could've been slightly cleaner in the bathroom

Wade, David, (drivers) Ted, and Val, y'all…read more Wade, David, (drivers) Ted, and Val . Corporate: stop what you're doing and give these guys a matching 401(k), company car, and a giant gold medal with a holiday to commemorate. Think about that feeling when your grandma's making you soup and you stayed home from school. That was the vibe. We were stranded in Syracuse after a looooong vacay that ended in Covid for all of us, kids included,---and when I say "kids" I mean a 5 & 8 -year-old who "just wanted to go hoooooooome", a.k.a. 3k miles away, after 2 weeks with our in-laws--u do the math. Could've been a hell on earth uation where we were ripping each other's heads off, but these people straight up kept us happy, fed, and didn't treat us like lepers despite the fact that we looked like hot garbage. They even drove us to the local pharmacy to get meds for the kids more than once. Not sure what people think about Hampton, but i used to think: dinky/ kitschy. FAKE NEWS YA'LL. We got better service and care here than I've had at any other resort around the world. These people genuinely cared about us, listened after we got bumped off 2 Flights and treated us like family. I would've had dinner w them. It wasn't just 1-2 people. It was literally everyone who worked there. On top of this we got free breakfast that actually tasted good. Biz services were legit and the team helped by printing things out correctly for me better than FedEx Kinko's does when it didn't work for me and I was under a tight deadline. They even chatted with me when I was about to lose my mind about work stuff. Who does that? So if you're looking for a place for a therapist, a couple new cousins, good breakfast for free, endless coffee that taste good, and legit empathy w/ those giant fluffy comforters, skip the four season--come here. Sidenote, my son left his cell phone there and they called us before we even knew we forgot it + mailed it across the country free of cost. These people would be seated right next to us at our Thanksgiving dinner table if they weren't 3k miles away. Way to be y'all. You made a crappy situation into a warm, comfy hug of a stay when our kids were losing it and we were basically hallucinating elephants due to that awesome COVID fever. Special place in heaven-not just Yelp- for these people.

Recently enjoyed a peaceful stay at the Hampton Inn in Syracuse…read more The hotel itself is squeaky clean and my room was beautifully quiet. The bed in my room wasn't terribly comfortable (it was doable but lots of waking up). Aside from that, my room was quite comfortable. The location is ten to fifteen minutes from downtown Syracuse, so it's relatively convenient if you have a rental car. The parking lot is well lit and arranged. There was nothing to differentiate itself from any other Hampton but I enjoyed a clean and relatively comfortable stay--so, good enough!

This hotel has had some major renovation work done recently in some areas. For example, the lobby…read moreand breakfast area are new and very nicely done. The area where the ice machine, vending and an atm are located and the ground floor corridor are not. The corridor on our floor was updated. The elevator scared the beejesus out of me! Every time it started it 'dropped' before moving in a controlled way. Every. Time. New fear unlocked. Check. We were checked in quickly and easily, were directed to the elevator and told breakfast hours. We unloaded the vehicle and washed up a bit before heading to dinner at which point we found the sink would not drain. On our way out we asked if a plunger was available to us. I am aware most hotels only have one staff member on duty in the evenings and did not expect 'maintenance' to fix the clog. Reception had a plunger for us when we returned from dinner. (We did get the clog cleared but that was pretty gross.) The room has been newly painted with a new vanity, sink and mirror. The wall behind the mirror is tiled where the old, larger one was and a space next to the vanity, where a bigger counter top was, has been boxed in and I used as a shelf for personal care items. Bar soap on vanity and in shower, and single use personal care items on counter top. No hooks for toiletry bags. The bathroom was clean, has been updated with a new tub and surround, plenty of hot water, good pressure, no drain issue in the tub. The walls have been newly papered and a new towel shelf is over a newer toilet. Two of each towel type and a floor mat. Our room was small, with a King bed, a chair (which I do appreciate in a hotel room) that was older, worn and smelled of stale wine, a floor lamp behind the chair, closet, desk, TV, mini-fridge and coffee service. There is no designated luggage rack area or a portable one in the closet, where you will find an iron and board. Two bedside tables have lamps a plug and a USB. Wi-fi was free. The bed was comfortable with a variety of pillows, soft sheets and nice weight duvet. The heater looks like a replacement unit and kept the room cool during our summer visit. Breakfast included juice, cold cereal, instant oatmeal, waffles, two hot items (I didn't open the chafing dishes to look) fruit, yogurt, milk for cereal, bagels and bread. A microwave and add-ins like S&P and jelly are on an island in the middle of the breakfast buffet area. Staff did their jobs minimally. Not friendly, not rude, just unmotivated, uninterested. It was small things like our interactions and attention to details in the room and at breakfast. Breakfast staff seem to be reception staff so they are trying to juggle keeping the coffee pot full during a busy front desk/check-out time. I can understand their frustration. It seems like corners are being trimmed to pay for much needed updates to the property. Not sure if it has to do with the location, some event happening in the area or something else but this was the most expensive room on our trip and the smallest. Add in the lackluster customer service and attention to details and our stay did not feel like a good value.

During our recent road trip, our family stayed at two different Fairfield Inn & Suite locations and…read morenoted a significant difference in the satisfaction of our stays. For comparison reasons, the other location we were at was the one in Ithaca - but this Syracuse location is our preferred location. Upon entry, you have a "Corner Cafe" for some snacks to purchase, the front desk, and then the breakfast area alongside coffee available all day. The breakfast seating area is about the same size in both hotels but I found the Syracuse location to be more comfortable as it was less cramped and less busy during breakfast hours. On the note of breakfast, the breakfast at the Syracuse location was significantly better. To compare, Syracuse had the following advantages: - Their mini fridge was available at all hours of the day, filled with individual packages of Chobani yogurt, Silk soy products (original and chocolate), milk (whole, 2%, and low fat chocolate), as well as some fruit cups and apple sauce. Versus the Ithaca location which has their fridge turned after breakfast so people couldn't access it, they had less variety and less stock. - Syracuse offers two waffle machines (with timers which were helpful), with a runnier yet fluffier waffle batter. At the Ithaca location, there was a constant line of 2-4 people waiting for the single machine and without the timer, people were often confused about when their waffles would be ready. - Overall, there are more items available at the Syracuse location: hard boiled eggs, Nutella packets, low fat cream cheese, single packets of Delight creamers, bananas, to name a few. - Despite breakfast hours being 6:30-9:30 am, the Syracuse location extends their breakfast for a bit after, keeping their stock, and leaves out stable items (i.e. the mini fridge) out for people to grab n' go versus the Ithaca location which stops stocking items in the last hour hence if you go for breakfast closer to 9 am, there's not much for you to eat. - the Ithaca location was also less organized with their breakfast. People were excited to get some cheese with their eggs, but got disappointed when they opened the container to find a compote of sorts.

On our return trip on 4/27 it was a late flight so were going to stay that night upon arrival at 1130pm. We were told we would be picked up as long as it was midnight or before. Shuttle stops at midnight. Due to bad weather our flight was delayed a little bit but we still made it to the airport at 11:30. I contacted the front desk as soon as we arrived and told Evelynn we would need a shuttle (3 minutes away from airport) She told me I need to call back once we get our luggage being they didn't want to have to wait for us! So I did. We got our luggage within minutes. I called Evelynn back at 11:45 and told her we were ready with our luggage and she told us to wait outside by they white pillars which we did. We watched people from other flights leave before us! I called back and Evelynn informed us we were to late and will not be picked up. Very nasty on the phone. She then informed me that I never called back to say we were ready when I did. I have record of it on my phone. Needless to say we were stranded at the airport with our luggage after a very long day of travel. I cancelled our room with candlewood for the night and booked with their competitor right next door holiday inn express and their shuttle came and got us and were very accommodating. It was very disgraceful and the way I was treated on the phone by Evelynn was unacceptable. She obviously didn't want to deal with us and it was easier for her to just kick us to the curb. We will not be staying at Candlewood ever again and will share my experience to everyone.

"No! 11:30!" And with that, I take my leave of this place never to return and warn future visitors: sure you're likely to lie awake staring at the ceiling until 430 am because of the livestock Mr. Kindness rented to the unit above but don't expect the common courtesy of the extension of an hour to load out your room and leave. And I'll add the people I've known from Syracuse have been kind, solicitous and friendly to a fault. I'd be shocked if this rude front desk guy was born and raised in Syracuse. And if he can or does even read these comments, I invite him to explain why he refused to extend me the full hour as a courtesy. I doubt it's anything other than his unpleasant shortsightedness Whoops! This cost me 7 minutes of the so mercifully granted 30 minutes. Either by sheer spooky coincidence or someone else at the front desk called. I'd posted the above in a fit of pique. Young, upbeat and clearly intelligible, he kindly suggested: "would you like a little more time to check out?" I immediately refused and said I'd be out at 1130. It cannot be easy running a hotel for the less than well to do. Some might call it a poor man's hotel. The woman checking me in Friday night was as cheerful as could be - a local. The two elderly splayed out with one exhibiting a chest rattling cough would have bern more appropriately housed in the local er but perhaps they sought refuge with others coming to rescue them. The fact is the deal was simple: I paid them $193 for a two-night period to give me refuge, a bed to lie in and a room with a lock. You can't expect luxuries: like neighbors above you that don't stampede until 430 am; like bedspreads without burn holes; like pillows so flimsy and cheap, you can stack all four on top of one another and it doesn't equal one normal pillow; like a bed that was likely purchased in the Carter administration and sags like a willow; and like carpeting that's clean - are those human blood stains. Nope. Refuge. Bed. Locked room. Oh decency and the common courtesy of all staff. Perhaps the linguistically challenged original curmudgeon that triggered all this is simply disagreeable and rude by nature. Fine. Fire him. This is the service industry - not the spit in the eye industry.
