I went into the store last week and fell in love with a vintage diamond ring. Today I went back and the guys were great. I dealt with three men, all of whom were fair in their negotiation, kind in their their treatment of me, and accommodating. They were informative as well. I've been hearing the commercials in my head: Simply the best.... I've been to a thrift store in Centereach, I never visited a pawn store before. No buzzer when you walk into Budget Buy and Sell. I guess the shot guns on display are an indication there is no fear of getting robbed. Plus the owner is a retired police officer. The transaction was a little funky. I had some family jewelry gold pieces that I was tired of looking at and I had the jingle in my head so I decided to come to Budget Buy and Sell. I walk in and I had my dads watch my youngest likes to wear. The clasp was broken. I give the watch and the gold to get appraised to the counterperson. He gives me a low ball estimate on the gold. I said the jewelry guy next door offered more?? He upped the price a little and fixed the watch band for free. Sold! I took the cash, no questions asked. While I'm looking around, I see a few Rolex watches in the display case as well as beautiful jewelry? There are lots of items for sale here. I like to find vintage cuff links, don't discount older jewelry. It made someone else happy once, if it speaks to you then by all means buy it. Every time I see the commercial for this horrible store I get so angry ! Around 15 yrs ago I went to these thieves to sell a gold Chain , which I did. I also wanted to get my engagement ring resized ... The guy behind the counter took the ring into the back to "look at it", only 5 minutes or so, then returned to me and told me they would have to send it out to get sized . ( I was young and dumb back then.... I left the store, thinking "oh well!" Then I took my ring to the flea market to one of the jewelers to get resized there ... The jeweler then told me "miss , this isn't a real diamond " !!!!!!! THAT BASTARD T BUDGET BUY & SELL STOLE MY DIAMoND!!!! Swapped it with a QZ so fast I didn't even notice!! I'd like to throw a rock in their window every time I pass by that store. STAY AWaY ! Ok.. I just noticed the owners response my above post. And yes, I admit that I used 'fowl language'.. but when a store steals my diamond after taking it in the back room... any woman would be furious and want to curse them out. And as far as trusting those guys at the flea market... they had nothing to gain by telling me the diamond was a fake! They weren't trying to sell me a new diamond, and I took it to more than one booth and were told by 3 different jewelers that it was not real. Walked in with a gold bracelet for repair. Employee looked at the broken clasp and said he would try to bend the claw of the clasp back into position. He stated it may break and therefore would have to be replaced. But if it didn't break it was no charge. That's when I told him it was my dad's whom recently passed away . I am so surprised to see so many 5 star reviews on these crooks! I went there to sell some old jewelry, I have sold gold in the past to different jewelers so I had an idea of costs to expect. I was told my pile of gold jewelry was only worth $270 which to me didn't sound right. I decided to leave with my jewelry and the jeweler said that sometimes the cost of gold fluctuates but that it's currently a higher sale price now. I thanked him and was on my way. I decided to go to another jeweler in patchogue. Right away the other jewelrer took more time with my jewelry, inspecting it and being respectful of it. They told me that some items I had were 10K gold vs the rest and I was surprised that budget buy and sell didn't provide any of this information. When all was said and done, I was quoted $375 dollars for all of my gold. THAT IS $105 DOLLARS MORE THAN BUDGET BUY AND SELL OFFERED ME! I was shocked to say the least and glad I went with my gut. Don't sell your beautiful items to these people because in my opinion they are total crooks who will take advantage of anyone and everyone that walks in. My intention was to have two gold bracelets polished and placed in two nice boxes. I walked into the store and was greeted with "Good Morning, how can I help you." I explained what I wanted, and the young man behind the counter asked the other man for help with the boxes. He took the two pieces into the back and polished them while I strolled the store. Five minutes later, he came back with two white boxes and my shining jewelry and gave them to me. I asked how much, and he said no charge. How much better does it get than that? I love this place! First I'd like to thank the guys who were there today for graciously cleaning my daughter-in-law's jewelry even though she decided not to sell. I'd like to add that my mother had gone in a while back to sell a couple of Rolex watches. I've always been a fan of using Craigslist to find second hand electronics over going to pawn shops, because I find them overpriced, always low in stock of anything I'm ever looking for, and the "what you want" stare is consistent from the folks behind the counter. This place isn't much different, except it's TINY. I went to sell some silver coins knowing that they have a reputation of cheap-skating just to see what they would offer. Not to any surprise they offered $30 and insisted that was the best I would get anywhere. The next day I went someplace else and got $92 dollars for the same lot. I decided to clean out my jewelry box and found quite a few pieces that were broken or just outdated, so I decided to sell them. I've seen the commercials, and also have driven by the clock in Patchogue and seen the shop. I liked that they advertised it being family owned, and how they treated their customers like family. Well, let me tell ya my family is not perfect, but we certainly do not treat each other the way I was treated! Horrible! I told the young man behind the counter that I had a few pieces I was considering selling, his demeanor and attitude was that of someone who did not want to be where he was, or do what he was doing. He was curt, disinterested, and down right disrespectful. He handled my jewelry like it burned his skin to touch it. I would NEVER go there again. They low balled the value ( I had looked up the current price of gold per gram and also weighed my jewelry before I went) he was off by over $150. This guy was so full of himself there was not enough room in the store for anyone else! These shops are all over LI. If you do your homework and check market prices before you go you won't get taken. I went to a jeweler and I'm not comfortable saying which one and showed them a diamond that belonged to my Mom. I brought them watch I had bought from budget buy and sell to have them repair the watch band that I had bought from them less than a month prior (the watch man sold me the band , not budget buy n sell) and it broke after the first time it was worn I was told by this man who's a watch expert that the Movado watch I had bought from budget buy and sell was an excellent time piece because a lot of the time pieces when they open up the back of the watch they discover it's either a knock off or a poorly made Mavado possibly made in China however the watch I had purchased was an excellent time piece in excellent condition and I was sold the watch with the original box and all of the original paperwork inside the price I paid startled the man I was buying the watch band from as he said I did magnificent in my dealings with Chris at budget buy and sell. here comes the interesting part I gave him my ring and also another piece of jewelry that was 14 karat gold ( I always get a few estimates when I do this ) he made me an offer I told him I didn't feel comfortable doing business with him that my jewlers are budget buy and sell, but I would compare the offers and come back to him, as he was getting me a new watch band!) ( by the way one of the main owners at budget is a GIA expert graduate , I believe it was his father that started this business) not only was I offered 4 times more for the ring but also I was offered 260.00 for the gold by the jewler that I will not name and Budget buy and sell offered me 368.00........ one last thing that blew my mind I knew my mother's ring was platinum the man who shall remain nameless told me it was platinum plated. it was not it was platinum whether or not I went through the sale of my jewelry is of no consequence in my review I just wanted to put in a review on a business that advertises years of integrity and honesty and that's with budget buy and sell is the most amazing honest reputable store that deals with many many different things not just jewlery. Always fair and honest with me every time I have been there. Tested them a few times with gold and silver to see if they were being honest with me as to how much it weighed, how much it was worth and what a fair offer price was. They passed every time cant go wrong here. Sometimes they have a little bit of an attitude but it is expected, im sure they have to deal with a bunch of rude and obnoxious people on a daily basis. I can't say enough good things about Budget Buy and Sell and their staff.I inherited some jewlery pieces from my late grandmother and had some other stuff laying around I just knew I wouldn't wear. Let me tell you a story..... A good friend of mine, who is a veteran and a brother in my church came out of a VA facility after almost a year to find one of his guitars stolen from the place he left it last. Sadly, it was at our church. He just happened to be in Patchogue a week ago and had time to kill, so he went browsing in Budget Buy & Sell. The stolen guitar was hanging up! He even had a picture of himself playing this guitar-it has some very distinctive markings on it. Long story short, while he did contact the police, he didn't want to bring drama into the church, so he resigned himself to accepting the situation, as he really didn't have the money to buy it back. We weren't cool with that, so we decided to get it back for him. I went to Budget Buy & Sell today, saw the guitar, told them the back story, and as it turns out, one of the gentlemen there remembered my friend and the story he told. They did us a real SOLID on the price! Remember this is a business, and they weren't legally or morally obligated to drop the price because of a sad, often told story, just with different items or circumstances. They said it was the right thing to do , and I almost cried because I knew how happy this was going to make my friend!
