I really wish I could love this place! I love noodles, so the fact that they offer handmade noodles alone makes me happy, but... Got the house special last time and the beef was so tender and plentiful (as it should be, the prices are steep for a bowl of noodles), this time I got 4 small slices and they were so chewy. The wonton soup was good but both the noodles tasted like they could have cooked longer. Got the pork belly bao again, and the meat was very tender, no garnishes, why I'm not sure. We also got the sub zero sesame noodles, figured we could have a few bites and take some home. It was room temp not even chilled at all, tiniest bits of cucumber and carrots, no herbs and not much seasoning. Service is just okay, and the place was pretty hot inside. All in all it was kind of expensive, which is fine as long as the food is great. Totally will give this place another chance, hoping it was an off day.

The place was recommended to me for the braised tofu which they didn't have. I ordered the vegetable soup which was very good; broth had wonderful flavor but I ordered side of cucumber salad but the side was tiny, it was so small that should be offered complementary not charged 38 pesos. My hubby ordered 2 boas w a side of fries & they were ok, nothing really special, not impressed by them at all, quite plane & thought that 200 was a lot for that combination. 88 per bao is expensive. I'm glad that we tried the place but will not be coming back. I had mixed feelings about the food but did not like it so much to come back. Place was also very hot; the huge ac was not on. Cash only.

I was vacationing in PV when a friend recommended that I check out this restaurant. As I am Taiwanese-American, I was curious to see how it was. Boy was I pleasantly surprised! I ordered their Budai Bao (which is basically Taiwanese Guabao) with the side of marinated cucumbers. Both are as expected (my mother would make the marinated cucumbers, so it's a taste I'm familiar with), and were delicious! I asked the waitress if the chef in the kitchen was Taiwanese, and she was (a very kind, soft-spoken and humble lady); I got the chance to speak and connect with her (we spoke Mandarin Chinese), and I told her how I was surprised to find Taiwanese food in PV and was delighted with her cooking, as it reminded me of food my mother made. She seemed please to hear that. As I made other local friends over the week, I invited two (culturally adventurous couple) to share in this experience again, this time ordering the Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup (goes by a different name...I don't remember - I think it's a house special noodle soup or something like that), the wontons, and pork dumplings (more like pot-stickers, which are delightful!). Again, I was very pleased with the food (the textures and flavors were on point), although there were a few bits and pieces that were't exactly "authentic." The noodle soup had tomatoes in it when it traditionally doesn't, and the typical bokchoi has been substituted with spinach. When asking the waitress about it, she said the locals didn't like the bokchoi, so they decided to substitute it with something more familiar/local. As the name of the restaurant is Budaixi (Cloth Puppet Theatre), I was reminded that, as the puppets act as a bridge for the audience members to access epic storytelling, the restaurant is also building bridges and connections to make Taiwanese food accessible to the locals. I see that the chef(s) in the kitchen are trying their best to respect tradition, while also experimenting and changing things to make it accessible to the locals. It's a delicate balance, and I think they have it down beautifully. I know most people don't come to PV to have Taiwanese food, but maybe because this felt like "home away from home," this place was very special to me. Please be sure to have some of the Budai Bao with a side of marinated cucumbers, and the Taiwanese beef noodle soup! Thank you, Budaixi, for the experience!

What a great find in PV of all places! Thank you for bringing Taiwanese yumminess cross the world to this corner of the lovely relaxing town of Mexico!! Sometimes I crave for some nostalgic foods of Taiwan where ever I am, & this hits the spot~! Thoroughly enjoyed our meal here tonight! read more

We love this place and it's new location is lovely - larger, airy, great ambience. The menu is smaller right now and everything on it is delicious. My only complaint is the lack of a vegetarian/vegan bao bun option. They used to have one and there's not one right now. We hope it will be back by our next visit here! read more

We arrived in Versalles at an odd hour without eating all day, so this was perfect. We'll need to go back and take fotos, cause we ate right away. We got a tofu bao, a shrimp cake bao and the miso ramen with spice. It came with curtidos of deliciously crisp Japanese cucumber, carrot and jicama. Everything was wonderful, with the tofu bao and encurtidos as our favorites. The owners are Taiwanese, but really, I liked it better than much of the vegetarian food in Taiwan, which was often too bland. We had extra spicy oil and sauce on the side. Actually, it kind of reminded me of Taiwan looking at the fog before the rain on the mountains. Finally, the biggest shout out to our two servers who were so sweet and attentive. They went back and forth perfectly with me in Spanish and my husband in English. You should go! read more

Great food. Any good Asian I can find makes me happy. Ordered a few different items but it was a while ago so I don't recall what.

Small place, great service and food. I did pork dumplings, and pork belly bar bun. Both were great, and sweet potato fries were best I've ever had, not the usual bar style. read more

After a week at local Mexican food, this is godsend. The authentic "grandma-cook" manning the kitchen and home prepared classics from Taiwan. The Mexican staff is so kind and this is worth a 30 min walk to the Versailles area from downtown. Taipei-level authentic food. read more

Most authentic Taiwanese food in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. I know there is not much competition in this nationality of cooking but Budaixi has lovely dishes. Not pretentious... just quality with good authentic flavors. From what I have heard the owners are of Taiwan backgrounds and it shows in their light dumplings and rich broth soups. Simply yummy and satisfying. I am not a bao bun fan but they have those options too. A lunchtime place that has good flavor. read more

Budaixi is a must visit for anyone seeking authentic/Chinese cooking in Puerto Vallarta. The staff there is very knowledgeable to help navigate the menu for us and cater to our needs. Also had the chance to meet the owner of the restaurant. We weren't able to order a lot of food but the ones that we ordered, Spiceland Wontons, Budai baos, Cloud 8, and House Special, Greens have authentic Taiwanese taste and flavor. The only downside for us was we found this restaurant too late in our vacation, and wasn't able to enjoy this more than just the one time. Definitely will be back in my repeat trips to PV. read more

I've been here a couple of times, everything they serve is amazing. The layout of the place is amazing and pleasing to the eye. It is a bit small, but it doesn't get crowded so you don't have to worry about it. There's a call where they take pictures of the regulars there and one of my goals is to be on that wall. My friends and i have discussed this, and it's one of the best places in town. read more
