Pretty spot for disc golf and walking. We did half the 18 holes and then walked the rest. It runs along Cypress Creek. Pretty scenery.

This place is fine for frisbee golf, but not for anything else. A friend and I took our 2 dogs there and the terrain was treacherous at times. There's a ravine with water below on the frisbee golf trail. Not safe for animals. I don't plan to return. read more

Bring bug spray, 'cause mosquitoes like dark meat. Teeing-off across an open field the first three holes certainly highlights your shot. After the fourth hole you want to have that shot tight as the narrow lanes (notably to beginners) will either confirm your masterful stroke, or to one's dismay, lead you into the sticks looking for your disc. I usually rock jeans, not only because my discs like to go play hide and go seek occasionally and I'm always "it," but during the hotter months the mosquitoes can tag you as well... and with enough tags, you're out! I've nauseated myself with the multiple layers of bug spray to stave off those midge flyes, woozy in my toss, at war for my own blood. Aside from that, the course really challenges your skill in ways that makes you better. Certain holes provide a unique angle which to toss, and the course management often changes the location of the hole, or basket, to keep you engaged. I've lost discs in the creek and in the trees, so don't concern yourself too much with the difficulty; it's courses like Texas Army Trail which makes you better each time you play. read more

The park is well maintained and the shots are long enough for a person to really experiment with new throws or practice older ones. Obviously you should bring bug spray, with a reapplication of the spray midway in you'll do just fine as you fiercely compete with your disc golf bud or buds while you smoke bud. read more

Bud Hadfield Park (Texas Army Trail Disk Golf Course) I found this course thanks to yelp, a few miles away and i didn't know it existed. The course permanently opened in January 2012, It's still under development but all 18 holes are open for play. The first 4 fairways are wide open, the other 14 are cut through heavily wooded and brushy areas. They just added concrete tee boxes, a broom is provided at each box which is a nice touch. There are also a few picnic tables and benches that are carved from tree stumps & logs throughout. Allot of care was taken in the design of this course. This course is a wonderful and badly needed addition to NW Harris County! I feel with time, this one will be considered one of the best in Houston. Go check it out. read more

This review is for the disc golf. Totally did not do my research and failed to connect the dots! This is the "Texas Army Trail". Wow! A guy in front of me and my friend ended up playing together. We found the coarse incredibly challenging to follow, even with the map. Make sure you go with lots of day light, there is a lot of walking, more than average. We went about 4pm and were not able to finish, unless willing to jog, which I was not. Below is a list of likes and dislikes. The cons didn't bother me, but I included them for others who may be used to disc golf located within open/easy public parks and amenities. I'll defiantly be back to finish, great PROS: -quiet & peaceful -map! Take a picture and try to follow it -difficult holes with lots of trees, water, twists, turns -perfect for speed (running) disc golf -not too much water -first 4 holes can be used as practice. Open grass. -nature trail is the coarse. -if you are a social butterfly, you can make friends of the time is right. -sitting logs and trash cans CONS: -SNAKES! Lots of them. -difficult if a beginner -lots of walking & backtracking -easy to get smacked with a disc as the holes are close together with curves around trees. Was constantly finding the group behind or infronts discs. -as a female: I would *never* feel comfortable alone out here. -parking is okay, started to fill up around 4-5pm! -not easy to leave coarse if you decide halfway through you are tired. -felt cramped. Lots of hikers so I constantly had to stop for them. Again, I don't mind, this is part of the game but don't expect a quick game if you come during peak times. read more

A young new course with a GREAT future ahead of it. Finally, after many travels between Austin and Houston I got to play the Texas Army Trails (TAT) Disc Golf Course that the Houston Area Disc Golfers worked so hard to get installed. *Disclaimer* I am an avid player, promoter, and sponsor of Disc Golf. I have played MANY course and have spent a good portion of my Disc Golf Life between Houston and Austin. So my judgement and opinion will be fairly based on those aspects. I will in no way compare the two areas of Houston and Austin since they vary widely in course designs, environment, and players appeal. ! Now onto the show ! CONDITIONS FOR THE DAY First and foremost, congrats on a NEW course for the Houston area. It was much needed on this Northwest Side of the region to expand the diversity of the courses and provide a simple access course from the US-290 Highway. Next, I played the course as an experienced & seasoned player. Joining with me was a young (20ish) Novice player and an older (50ish) basic beginner player... so the depth of the players field covered a wide experience level. The TAT course is a great challenging long course experience for disc golfers. Using my "Runkeeper Pro" exercise App from my phone it measure about 2.27 miles long; walking from Tee to Basket (and those small deviations in between). OVERVIEW The TAT course is set in a mix of tall pine trees, some short sprouting oaks, and numerous other types of large foliage that will challenge you to maneuver your disc around. The TAT was built in a very "wild" growth area of the flood plane. Essentially, they have carved this course out of the woods while using it's natural features to give the course its contours. SPECIAL NOTES This opportunity I had to play on the course was slightly marred by the fact that less than 10 days ago the ENTIRE AREA was flooded due a torrential storm, easily submerging the baskets. On the positive note, the area and course seems to have held up splendidly from those floods and drained well. Kudos to the groups who placed the Tee boxes and baskets. I only saw very little erosion around the placements and NO movement from the pads. Impressive build. PLAYING Playing the course I was able to notice that the fairway trees and growth are still "learning" and need to be consistently pruned to keep them from growing in the possible flight lines of the discs. Over time, the wildness of the area will be tamed and the fairways will be manageable. There are some simple holes and long technical ones to accommodate a broad field of disc golfers. As with any round of DG, there is always the Risk vs. Reward scenario. This course is a heavily wooded course and to say that some of the fairways edges are "rough" is an understatement, but if you have played Houston area wooded courses before, then you are used to it. (remember this is a flood plane "wild" growth area) There are also the opportunities here to make amazing shots through the beauty of the trees or perform impenetrable attempts to throw from tangled vines and walls of trees. (man I LOVE this game!) With either scenario you find yourself in, I still would recommend to simply get out here and play it as it is and develop your DG skills (mental & physical). As noted earlier, I played with a diverse group. Knowing this I watched some of the players who average 80ft - 220ft throws easily find themselves in decent positions even when they did hit trees or got an errant skip/deflection. As to myself, I was able to get some really beautiful bombing drives on some of the holes over 300ft (long Anhyzers and some S flex shots). The newer players found the course lengthy and challenging to their game, but it offered enough reward that it did not beat them into quitting and kept them playing for that one "sweet shot" to redeem all the drama they had before. OVERALL The course has a great future and you should spend the time to come see what it is all about while sharing it with your friends. PROS - new course that is long and challenging - signature holes with elevated baskets (5ft+) in the tree stumps to prevent them from washing away - ease of access to the course from the freeway - great use for Disc Golf in an un-populated "wild" area - Hole #13 is fun throwing over the embankment of the bayou/water levee (I missed the Ace just barely) - brooms at almost every box to clean the sand off = NICE touch for players CONS - you can't beat them: Snakes AND Mosquitoes so be careful and BRING SPRAY for you and your pets - no area map for the course. we found #1, but the others were a learning curve - signage for hole direction could be improved/larger - Hole #11 will take time to develop and trim to make it more playable - fairway brush/tree growth over 3ft tall. This will also take time to cut/trim/remove as the course "learns" from the pruning, etc. Once again, Thank you for the great new course! read more

Went to go take photos in a nice wooded area. They have a giant play field for frisbee golf, and I'm guessing some nature trail, through they were a bit too hard for me to find. I never found the trails, but I did come across some people smoking and a lazy dog or two. The mosquitos are horrible, but that's Texas. Beautiful woods though! It's too bad it closes so early. read more

This course was fun! Goes through the woods and can be quite challenging. Its not boring and flat. Kinda like taking a nature walk while playing disc golf. Be ready to hunt your discs out of the woods and if youre unfortunate, maybe cypress creek. I cant wait to go play again read more
