This place is a complete and total SCAM. They are knowingly selling broken appliances and keeping your money. Run, don't walk away.**
Here's the story: I bought a Nespresso maker from here, and with taxes it came out to be the same price as a brand new one from the website. But I was excited to find one with even a $10 discount so I took it home with me (if I purchased new, I'd have to pay taxes on top, so it would be a bit more expensive). I quickly discovered the machine wouldn't pump water at all. I even did a video chat with the Nespresso support person and all I ever got were error messages. When they looked up the serial number, they found out that the machine was four years old.
Less than 24 hours later, I went back to the store to return. I don't know how but I had missed the signs that said returns are for store credit only when I bought the machine. I said that we are moving and leaving town tomorrow so I'm not going to be around to shop (which is perfectly true). The girl behind the counter was nice and tried to call the manager to allow me to have my $130 back in cash, but of course it was to no avail.
Browsing around the store to find $130 in *stuff* I didn't want or need, I quickly realized that the items in there are NOT a bargain. They are just as expensive as purchasing from a regular store except for an almost negligible discount in some cases; the "discount" items are likely broken like the coffee maker I got. I certainly noticed a fair amount of stains on fabric, stoneware, and sets of dishes with plates missing, and yet the prices were still very high for their condition.
As I was leaving with my *stuff*, having handed over an additional $5.00 because I couldn't make exactly $130 in merchandise, another employee asked me what happened with the machine. I told her what was going wrong, and she said "Sounds like the motor is broken. That's what happened with the last one we sold".
I believe her. But Wtf? So why wouldn't someone check this one before putting it on the floor?
Here's what seems to be their business model: They KNOWINGLY sell damaged and broken merchandise and don't let you have your money back when you come to return. When you go to exchange for different items, either the things you select don't add up to the amount you already spent or they exceed it, resulting in MORE MONEY out of YOUR wallet. Either way they win.
No, I did not see the "store credit only" signs when I originally walked in. That's on me. I was in a rush and distracted talking to my kids, plus excited about my new coffee maker. Whatever, still my fault. However, I object to this policy on principle. It may be appropriate for, say, a small clothing boutique, but this store is just robbing people. "Store credit only" is essentially a warning label for the merchandise they are selling.
