I wasn't really hungry but wanted to sample some food why I was there so I ordered the hot chicken sandwich. I was very disappointed. It was a cheap chicken burger on a poor quality bread bun with a bit of iceberg. Most of the pubs I know use a full chicken breast that they put their own coating on and serve with salad garnish etc. It's a shame really because it is a nice looking pub. The landlord is extremely welcoming, pleasant and knowledgeable, but the pub itself.. Well, to say it is amazing is to do the landlord an injustice. As can be seen by the photos, the pub has an incredible amount of memorabilia; seemingly, most from the war years (no, I won't specify which wars!) but also an eclectic collection of anything that interests anybody. There are musical instruments throughout the rooms, a plethora of cameras of all eras, uniforms from forces, services and old schoolsI could go on all day. We all decided that it would take a full day just to sample the excellent drinks and to look around, then were told that they serve good food during the day as well. Unfortunately we were too late to get food and had more important matters in mind. The beers were very good; a superb choice of hand-pulled real ales, competently served and well-kept. At £2.70 a pint, they were a bargain these days unless you happen to have an in-house brewery. Next time I have a night off, we will have a trip there to sample the ffod as well as the beer.
