If you have a nosebleed while standing atop a hilly bluff overlooking the ocean, and your blood…read moredrips down the rock wall into the sea, then it may become a Redcliff. That was quite convoluted, but what I was trying to say is that both myself and my brother were born in this hospital. It's gone through many renovations since those days, but it still gives me a creepy, unusual, and chilling feeling when I see it. It's obviously a special place to me, but I don't really like hospitals, and besides, my brother nearly died here twice, once just after birth, complications from Asthma and such. You can blame my parents for that I suppose, they blame each other for it, so why not. It's a very modern hospital that is famous all over England, and perhaps all over Europe. Plus, it has to have a 5 star because I was born there. To give it less tha a 5 would just seem ungrateful. And this is the 1,981st review I've ever written, by the way.

It feels a bit odd reviewing a hospital. I visited a friend in here, so I can't really comment on…read morethe treatment, but on the experience of visiting as a whole. The car park is well signposted, but like most NHS hospitals, you pay on your way out and it costs several pounds. The hospital itself is a maze - there are signposts which seem to lead you in indirect routes, although you usually end up passing the help desk a couple of times to get more directions. It doesn't help that there are several entrances and exits on different floors. The hospital has a fairly nice atmosphere and doesn't seem too clinical. Some corridors have nice pictures on the walls, the cafe is wonderfully cheap (cheap squash, simple but cheap filled rolls) and there are book stalls and charity stands dotted around. It definitely feels like a place that is full of life.

This was the worst experience I had in a hospital I hated been in this hospital from the day I was…read moreadmitted. The maternity service department and the antenatal labour ward are a joke. The care was horrible, with no staff to look after the patients I understand there's no enough staff in the NHS but surely reassurance would have attributed to our anxiety. I got admitted at 6pm and the first midwife to attend to me was at 11pm!! Having had inductions paused in between for more than 24 hours because of no staff and lack of proper effective communication. How can an expectant woman have her second prostin inserted at 10am and not be reviewed until after 24 hours because of lack of staff. I mean this staff don't expect us to go and baby sit the beds it's better to leave us stay at home than make us feel so frustrated whilst in the hospitals. More over they had cancelled the induction dates for more than twice before accepting to admit me. There's was Only one consultant to review all the women in antenatal, postnatal and labour ward from Wednesday till Saturday. On top of that Mixing antenatal patients together with postnatal patients in the same ward and bays was not good enough and to make it worse transferring induction patients into triage area where other women are coming in and out with complications. It was traumatic to even think I will be next because they didn't even monitor the baby for more than 12 hours at one point and with no doctor to review for more than 24 hours. Don't get me wrong one or two midwives were caring but others even forgot that patients need to be fed, informed of their care, some were even very racist with no empathy like midwife Louisa from CMK Avebury community who never made it easy for us. I personally encountered some times where I thought why she is so horrible and yet allowed to work in such a department. To a point where when you try to explain to her certain things she says you are lying as a patient. I just wish she will never have to be in such a situation where she will receive the nasty care she delivers to people especially from minority communities. In short I wouldn't recommend Milton Keynes maternity department to anyone I have shared my horrible experience and many people have stated it's been horrible like this for ages with even worse outcomes . Someone needs to take action and change this.

I've had quite a few experiences of MK Hospital over the last year or three, and some have been…read moregood, others not so good. I had my gall bladder out there last November - that was in the specially built day surgery unit, and they were fantastic. I've been to the cardiology unit a few times now and they're also really lovely, although that's one unit where if you're booked in for an appointment and it says may take up to 3 hours on the letter, DO take a book, a drink and something to entertain you while you wait as it probably does actually mean it. There's a lot of waiting around between the different stages of being weighted, measured, having an echo or ecg and seeing the consultant. A&E is (probably like most A&E departments) always busy (well it seems that way) and the poor staff there always seem very rushed and frazzled. They do their best, but it's never a particularly pleasent place to be but then that's pretty much part of it's nature. The general wards seem to vary quite a lot, One that I was on a couple of years ago was ..well to be honest it was a bit pathetic really, they managed to leave an artierial blood test that they needed to do for about 12 hours because it got overlooked on my chart, and then came and woke me up in the middle of the night. - Arterial blood tests HURT! - so errr well I woke up a few other people blush when it was done. Not intentional I assure you. The nurses are lovely, as are the porters, but the doctors leave a LOT to be desired when it comes to their bedside manner and attitude and mine seemed like he'd really have prefered not to have any contact with me at all if he could have avoided it. The hospital also seems to have a bit of a problem catering for people who have another illness/disability that's unrelated to the reason they're in there. I have fibromyalgia, which means I use a walking stick. Now imagine walking stick in one hand, other hand clamped firmly round a pole that you're attached to by an iv. where's the third hand to carry something like a plate of food???? Honestly, they seemed to think I could 'manage'. Umm yeah Ultrasound and scans department is really friendly, they're not always comfortable things to have especially when the little wand thing is pressed up hard under your ribs, but every time I've had one, the people there have been lovely and helpful and explained things when I've asked etc. Well that's my experiences, hope it's useful to someone.

However when went to the eye clinic was informed they closed at noon on Saturday and while I could be admitted, I was looking at a 4-5 hr wait. The staff at reception instead suggested I should return back on Monday before 8:30am, as waiting times then would be less. So according, my brother dropped me off and I got there at 8:20-ish and was given nos 14. Got called an hour later and my information for registration was provided. Then back in line, when was called a second time and described to a nurse what happened. Then back to waiting, but this time in another space. Finally another nurse came out, examined my eye, said she wanted the Doctor to look at it, and back to waiting I went. Finally the Doctor came, said my eye was clearing up nicely and eye pressure was as it should be. I asked if could get a copy of my notes, as them would see a follow up optometrist in Amsterdam and then waited another 30 minutes after which an officious receptionist staff refused my request cause referral letters can only be addressed to a local GP, and I didn't have one! Whew - my experience here was so different (in a bad way) from Bristol Eye Hospital! Longer wait time of around 4 hrs and then they wouldn't make s photocopy of my notes! Not very pleased but at the same time grateful got my eyes checked and everything was fine. Yelp 176/ 2019
