There are many considerations and factors to weigh when selecting a pre-school for your child…read more Gainesville Country Day School hits every mark. The teachers challenge each child at their personal academic level, while providing a rigorous yet holistic approach to education. In addition to a sound academic curriculum, the children are exposed to both visual and performing arts, public speaking, a foreign language, physical education, with an emphasis on collaborative and interactive work and play. I actively educated both my children and grandchildren and that leaves me rarely impressed with traditional schools. Having visited and interviewed several schools in the Gainesville as well as the South Florida areas, I find this school genuinely impressive. From the beautiful grounds, the passionate teachers, the insightful administrators to and including the overall culture, you will assuredly provide your child with an exceptional learning experience at Gainesville Country Day School.

My son started when the school opened when he was 2 and graduated from VPK last year at age 5 (we…read morewent for four years). As an only child, I was very worried about him being isolated from other children because social interaction is so critical at this age. At Open Arms, he learned so much - his ABCs, how to count, write his name. He learned how to share and interact with his peers. He learned acceptable behavior and when his behavior wasn't the best, the teachers all worked with him on "better choices." Since he was a full time student, I particularly liked the combination of organized activity and free play time (both inside and out). Play is a child's work and it is through play that they learn. That he had a great balance is very evident in the person he is today. What I also like is that over the years, the staff has had a mix of age groups. It's not just older women, some are just out of college, some are moms with kids of their own. I really liked it when there were two guys on staff who were great role models. We were very fortunate to have been able to spend four years at the school. My son does like to come back and visit his old teachers.

While the teachers themselves are caring and dedicated, the administration under the current principal is an absolute disaster. Negligence and lack of basic child safety are ongoing issues that have been ignored or brushed aside by those in charge. The school's leadership is unresponsive and unaccountable, making repeated and serious errors that put children at risk. Communication is poor, concerns from parents are dismissed, and there seems to be no real oversight or willingness to improve. To make matters worse, the St. Augustine Diocese--who should be stepping in to protect students and hold the administration accountable--is just as indifferent. It's incredibly disappointing to see such disregard for children's wellbeing from those who claim to represent a faith-based educational institution. I wouldn't trust this administration with my child's safety or education. Until major changes are made at the leadership level, this school is not a safe or trustworthy place. The teachers deserve better (as there are so many who stay because of our kids)! The kids deserve better! And parents deserve the truth! Avoid St. Patrick at all costs. Please pray with me that the new Holy Father makes the changes needed in Catholic education in this diocese.
