Extremely well stocked not only with light reading, bestsellers, and books about Switzerland, but with the latest titles form New York and London papers. Makes it eaasy to keep up with what's happening back home. Oh, and if you're longing for a taste of home, there is a well-stocked selection of British comfort food. Marmite, tinned puddings, Colman's mustard, all the brands Mum used.

Between English and my very poor French and Swiss German, she and I were able to communicate just fine. In my apartment in California, I have taped to my wall several postcards that I bought from Calligrame. I miss the store a lot and look forward to visiting again when I return to Zurich.

Meine Tochter war geknickt und ich konnte es mir nicht verkneifen, das gesuchte Buch noch in der Buchhandlung bei Amazon zu bestellen. Ich werde Kunde bleiben, meine Tochter will jetzt zu Rombach. It's just a regular book store, but something about Orell Fussli is special. Maybe because the books are in German, and it's multiple stories and fun to ride the elevator. Maybe it's because there are nice couches around to sit and read the books, or maybe because there's a Starbucks too so you can have a coffee while you're enjoying your book. I don't know, but I love it. When things were a bit rough a month ago I'd just come here, and everything bad would go away. Orell Fussli is the perfect medicine. :) It's also right in the middle of Zurich. If you're wanting an English book store there's another Orell Fussli English down the street. But I'm so over English books, those were so yesterday. just kidding I've bought a few things from here. The Lion King DVD in German, a German cook book, a calendar, and a few cards. It's really a lovely store. Ich liebe Orell Fussli. Ich finde diese Ort warm und prima. Die Bucher sind nett und die Leute auch. Ich komme hier wenn ich traurig bin und dann bin glucklich ich. I got, among other…read morethings, a beautiful first edition of Hesse's Das Glasperlenspiel at a reasonable price, an early edition of Tieck, and a marvelous photo essay on Marlene Dietrich. The owner is obviously very knowledgeable and chooses his stock very carefully. He was very helpful to me despite my extremely limited German. I highly recommend this shop to anyone interested in German literature and history. A real find!
