My husband and I took our new travel trailer here about 2 weeks ago, and we had a great stay. We had one of the beachside spots and both the view and the breeze were nice. The Waterpark doesn't open until Memorial day since it's still off season and a bit cold. Check in and making reservations was easy and hassle free. The spot was level, had hookups for water, electricity, and a dump drain. Each spot also had its own firepit, which was really nice. It was nice that each spot also had an adjoining parking spot for a vehicle. We didn't use any showers or bathroom, so I can't comment on that. The beachside spots were a little costly at $100 a night ,but worth the splurge. Quiet hours were posted and everyone complied. Rating from F to A +++ it gets an A ++. Minus one + for being a bit costly. read more

The bathrooms are large and the shower stalls are very private with a closed changing area outside the shower. The campground located at the back on the last loop was a little over grown but had sewer & water and was clean. The walk to the beach is a mere .80 tenths of a mile. My son had his fishing gear stolen right out from under our camper. When I told the staff, of teenagers, they said "oh yeah we had a family complain that their whole cooler was stolen." That would have been fantastic information to have at check in so we can take appropriate action. So my kid is out at least $400 in gear, had they just given us a heads up we would have planned accordingly. We've been all over the SE, public and private sites for 8 years and this is a first for us. Now I know this is not on the staff but again make people aware of the problem. Not to mention when we went to the local Walmart to get him some new gear, and I mentioned that my son was robbed the cashier said "you staying at Buccaneer?" Yes. "I had folks in here yesterday replacing all their fishing gear because they had it stolen out there." Wow. We stayed in the brand new premium "beach" spots, by "beach" they mean you can see water. There is a fairly busy road and breakwall between you and the water. The only thing dividing you from the road in a 4ft tall single line rope "fence". If you want sand you have to cross the road and walk down to the campground entrance to get any sand, or drive elsewhere. I bring up the "fence" because that played into my son to getting robbed, we backed up to the road. The spots are brand new and large level concrete, except I was dumping up hill as they built the sewer cap roughly 8-10" above the ground. We paid premium prices for the "beach," pool and nice water park. We booked the week of our son's 9th birthday it was not specifically spelled out that you DO NOT get any kind of discount or entry into the water park OR the pool. We assumed that would be true, we were wrong. I have gone through the site again not only do I not see anywhere warning you that you pay full price for the water park, I can't even find that the pool has a price. That means my family of 5 cost $95 for the water park. We did "twilight" once after the beach and that was still $55. I understand a fee for the water park but how do you charge $105 for a single weekend night and then charge to go to the pool? The pool was OK at best and completely separate from the water park. It was just a pool. On top of that we had to pay $10 a night to have our golf cart! By the time our trip was over I had spent Disney money for a state park in MS. The Friday night we were there it cost us $210, with the water park...for a state park. Could have stayed at the IP for less, with the pool. It's sad because the park is nice but I don't understand the pricing, at all. Very disappointing, especially at this price point. We will never go back. read more

I honestly don't have much nice to say about our experience here. Don't bother calling the office, they won't answer. I didn't see any park rangers or hosts so who knows who's managing things. This is more of an RV park than a campsite so if you are tent camping like us, keep that in mind. The water park is run down. The beach across the street is very small and the water is weird (dead shrimp everywhere). You can get to more beach by the casino. Honestly not impressed from this visit. read more

So first of all the ticket price is so darn high, You get a smaller then average wave pool and 2 slides. Family of three is $51 geez it's nothing close to the greatness of the bigger water parks. The nice things about this place is the view and deck/chair area is clean and tidy. The snack bar is movie theater price and the lady that was helping us was very rude. Would rather finish her conversation then help me with my order, she made another employee who wasn't part of the conversation check me out. Jumbo cookie is $2.25 and it's a grandma's cookies packet, also bought nachos which were so stale and disgusting like card board for $5. Rip off at the snack stand. Visited Buccaneer State Park with a group of Four Families and RV's the second week of August 2020. We stayed in Barataria Bay. Only one family had previously visited here a few years ago and they had a good experience, so we all decided to plan our vacation here. This place has loads of potential with a management that is severely lacking in every area. You will see many reviews that will talk about the train noise and vibrations and also the theft, so please heed those warnings. But if you only remember one thing from this review, please remember that our biggest problem was roaches, flying roaches. My daughter saw a review on Facebook before our trip about a family that said that there was a roach infestation. We were so concerned about it that we actually made the 2+ hour trip the weekend before our vacation to scout the premises for roaches. We saw no sign of roaches and even talked to other campers that did not have any bad roach infestations, so we were thrilled and made our trip. The first night, we had a party and BBQ and had a great time. When we decided to go to bed, we returned to our RV and Roaches were all over the entire outside of the camper. We were instantly sick to our stomachs at the sight of roaches crawling on the RV. Our first night was restless sleep just waiting to be woken up by a roach crawling on us, but it did not happen. The next 4 days were hell. Constantly killing roaches on the inside and outside of the RV. So bad that we contemplated leaving early. Management only said, "what do you expect? we are in the outdoors." That was the only answer. Had a great time at the beach and at the water park, but we will never return to stay at Buccaneer State Park. When we returned home, we had to remove literally everything from the RV and Truck to get all of the roaches. We set off roach bombs, roach traps and sprayed the RV inside and out for bugs. After an 8 hour cleanup, we hope that we are roach free now. By the way, our RV is only 2 months old and this was our 3rd trip in the RV. We have been camping many times before and never experienced anything like this. Roaches ruined our trip. Note, one of the families with us experienced the roaches the worse. In their clothes, bags, food, pantries, outdoor compartments, vehicle. They had the worse of us all. The facility could be one of the top RV destinations in Mississippi, but with the current management and Roaches, forget it. I mean we honestly didn't have any other choice but to come here since it's jelly fish season. My bf and I came here after learning about the jellies and looking for an alternative. It wasn't packed at all, and a decent price to hang out all day. I feel like this little water park has great potential with a few more slides and rides! This was our first stay at this park. We tent Camp often and loved the park for tent camping. Our spot was nice and shady. The bathhouses are very big and very clean. Our tent camping experience was great that is the the reason for 3 stars. However... If you are coming here for the water park or pool be warned the price is NOT included in your stay. You must pay $19 extra per person per day for the water park. It was closed for our spring break stay, April 2-4. We had no idea it was closed. They do not state the days or hours anywhere. Not in the booklet they give you nor when you book nor on the website. It is very deceiving. The pool is back in the Campground it was turned on and clean and completely closed. One of the best kept state parks we've been to. Maybe we picked a good time to go, wasn't too crowded. The sites are spread out so your not on top of your neighbors. Plenty of areas to walk around with your pets. In the summer time, they have a small water park and 3 large swimming pool areas. At the rear of the lark, there is a arcade , laundromat and a small camping store. The state park is situated right on the gulf and is close to nearby casinos, the beach, restaurants and shopping. This is a go to for the family or couple. Can't get bored here. read more

We've stayed at about 15 state parks across the country and Buccaneer is one of the best. The lots are spacious - trees or no trees if you want. At least 6 different areas to park - we stayed at the first one - the Jean Lafitte. Friendly campers always. Both long term and weekenders. Staff is helpful and friendly - especially Eddie and Alicia. There's a nice laundry, game room on the weekends (we were there January-February may be during the week in warmer months), big dog run and decent showers. For those into frisbee golf, there is a large area that was always used. Lots of dog people if you want to chat up other dog walkers. Handy to Waveland and BSL as well as the casino. Be sure to visit Stennis - one of 12 NASA sites. read more

This is a review only for the waterpark. You will first have to pay the admission fee of $4 a person to get in the state park. The admission to get into the waterpark is separate and is $19 for adults. The Wavepool is the same pool from years ago. It has been refurbished since Hurricane Katrina. Floating tubes are free. Waves come about every 15 minutes. There is a two level building with a snack stand (no alcohol), air conditioned bathrooms with changing rooms, and numerous tables and chairs. The lower level is an open space with shaded tables and four outdoor showers *there are NO indoor showers.* Hopefully the facility can add showers in the future. This place is great! I called ahead of time to make reservations (some parts are first come first serve though). Since we had little kids with us and were tent camping they put us away from the RVs on a grassy field very close to both the beach and the bathrooms. When we checked in it was late in the day so they didn't charge us for that night. It was great! We hit the beaches (a better beach is just a mile or so down the road) and when we were done we hit their showers. Very clean. They also have several playgrounds and nature trails in the park. There is a wading pool that is free to use with admission. Perfect if you have little kids that aren't ready for the water park! read more

Not bad for a State Park. Our site was in the back loop. The sites back there we shaded and fairly large. They were also pretty close to the train, which went through all hours of the day and night. Our site was paved and fairly level. The bath house was clean, but the shower water pressure was pretty low and it took 10 min for hot water to reach the shower. The fire ring on our site was right behind the pad, so we had to pull the RV up a bit to give us room for a fire. There was broken glass around the fire pit that we had to watch for. Most of the amenities were shut down for the season, but we had an enjoyable stay. The park is very close to the Gulf. We felt safe and plan on coming back again. read more

3.5 Stars The water park is obviously the biggest attraction, with beachside camping/parking ranked a close second, as it overlooks the Gulf of Mexico. After navigating through the backroads and some shady neighborhoods to get here, the first thing you'll see is an enormous water park. I'm not sure if the water park is new, or if it's recently received a facelift, but it's clearly the feature attraction and the most well-funded aspect of Buccaneer State Park. As for the rest of the park, if you get bored of the water activities, there are several playgrounds and picnic areas, as well as an 18 hole disc golf course. read more

I can't say enough nice things about buccaneer. They've come a long way and play a major role in tourism along this stretch of the coast. One of few places that hosts primitive camping! Nice, clean facilities and spacious campground too. Close to both the fun downtown area of Old Town Bay St Louis and the Silver Slipper Casino. Great water park for the kids as well. Pretty nice park for a state park just be careful where you reserve you camper site. Some area are not a kept as others. With that said stay toward the middle to the front of the park for camper. Front site of the park is beachfront so keep that in mind. The part has a wave pool park $19 per day per person and a waterfall pool $5.50 per person per day. The park personnel work real hard it appears to keep the grounds, restrooms and showers very clean and stocked. Only giving a 3 star rating due to the fact that it just so expensive for the pools and they don't give a discount for folks already paying to stay there. Over all nice place to visit. read more

It looks very nice when you pull in. Very inviting. Upon arrival however, we realized that the pool was closed which we had not been informed of prior when we booked. There is a water park on the property, but it is $20 per person per day to enter with only two slides and a wave pool. We were also displeased to realize that the campground was packed and ALL of the the bath houses remained locked the entire length of our stay. We are a 25-foot Tiger Adventure Vehicle Pulling a 12-foot​ Turtleback Trailer. We phoned​ ahead to ask a few​ questions and among other things, were told that they were not busy. I guess you could say they "weren't busy" but when we got there the campground was at least 50% full. We didn't need any hook-ups, but we still had to pay full price ($29.96) for spot 182, in the back. We got there just before sunset. Had we known about the train and the road noise, we would have asked to move farther forward. When we saw a nice pull through spot that was open farther forward, we asked if we could switch. They said no because​ of ​the electric didn't work even after we explained we wouldn't need any hook-ups. On our site, ​there was no fire ring ​and no picnic table. Pad was level, but gravel and slightly soft. Seemed a bit pricey for us. read more

Buccaneer State Park is basically a camping/RV/beach park. We drove here for a little trip to the beach and relax a bit for a day. It kind of has its up and downs and it kind of deserves more of a 3.5 Star Rating in my opinion. So for the good it is obviously right across from the beach. You can enter the little gated enclosure, park your car or RV, then walk over to the beach. But it costs $3...on the other hand this is also a pet friendly beach! That is a plus as well, but I heard that they are not allowed in the cabins? not sure. The beach water is also that brown and ugly water when you can sometimes find dead fish on the shore. Not very pleasing to the eyes. There is also a small waterpark next door. I did not go in since there is only like 3 slides and a wave pool, not worth the money or time. I guess it is nice to stay if you want to get away and camp for a bit, but if you want a really nice beach weekend it is one of the lower choices in my book. Fun, but not the best. read more

Nice pool, good playground areas. Very nice park and should be rated extremely high. This was our second RV trip to Buccaneer and it won't be the last. Sites are nice we stayed at # 11. My husband and I had been on the road nearly a month. These were the worst showers of any campground from Orlando FL to Williams Arizona. Not clean, poorly ventilated, no shelves in the shower for soap or shampoo and not even a hook for a towel. read more

I absolutely love the wavepool! I bought a season pass and try to go as much as possible. It really is a hidden gem in the world of water parks. It is hardly ever crowded and the place is very clean. Every one working there is really nice. The food there is reasonably priced, but I don't think they make too much of a fuss at people bringing in their own food. read more

The park is great, but the ranger needs to calm down. We camped here last year on Labor Day, in tents, 3 adults (2 30 year olds, 1 28 year old). After "quiet time" around 9, we decided to take our bicycles (quietly) to the beach. He stopped us on the way out, once we were in the front, on the main road, to let us know we couldn't ride bikes after quiet time. On our way back on, we figured we could ride to the first bathroom area, then walk the bikes. Nope! He stopped us again, then followed us while we walked the bikes to our campsite. He kept harassing us & being condescending about why we rode bikes (on the beach road-not in the park) after he told us we couldn't in the park, etc. literally, he just would not stop repeating himself. Then finally asked how old we were. When we told him our age, he apologized for being rude. We finally just asked if he would rather us leave & stay with family in Waveland. We just wanted to spend some time at the beach and camp out. You would've thought we were at a Summer camp for toddlers. He explained they have a lot of trouble with teens, but I didn't see it. I've had several friends who camp regularly complain about the overbearing ranger too. read more

The cleaning staff should be fired. The women's shower house use gross, despite the log on the door showing several cleanings per day. I saw the same ponytail holders, clumps of hair, and piles of dirt on the floor on my 6th day as I did my 1st. I took my suit off in the handicap stall and left a pile of sand on the floor. The next day after the man had just "cleaned" for 3 minutes, it was still on the floor. I'm pretty sure that he throws cleaning liquid around for the smell and that's all. There was never soap at the sinks, and the outlets did not work. Several times the trash can at our site was overflowing. I also think it's ridiculous that paying campers have to pay to use the campground pool. The roads are not well lit. The beaches in Waveland are dirty, full of trash, and along a busy road. I have always gone to Florida State Parks and will do so from now on. It's worth the extra hours in the car! read more

My family and I spent about a week at the state park and I must say I have been to a lot better. The park has a wading pool that the kids were very excited about and it looked nice only to find out you have to pay to get in! I can only assume others were not happy because the park was PACKED and the pool was dead. I really think they should advertise that you must pay to enjoy the pool. There is also a small water park there and yeap you guessed it you have to pay, 17 for adults. They did have a nice park for the kids. They do have sewer that was a plus. Also, be prepared for sand, sand ,and more sand there was not much grass which was disappointing with all the trees. We also had a problem with ants at our location, it very hard to enjoy the outdoors when you can't run from the ants. read more

My wife and I camped here in a tent while bike touring around the country. The park is clean and reasonably priced. They have warm showers and a laundry room (though, the dryers were all broken while we were there). The staff was friendly and helpful. All in all, a pretty standard state park. There are some water slides and pool, but the weather was too cold to use those while we were in the area. read more

I am not pleased with this place. It's over crowded everyone is so close to each other. I liked that it had a pool and waterpark...but you have to pay 8 bucks per person to play in the pool. And the waterpark with 2 tiny slides and a wave pool is hardly worth 20 per person. Seems nice but just isn't worth it to me...I think there should be a discount for people camping there at least. read more

We took our RV here. We really enjoyed our experience here. My husband and I are really easy going so things that might bother some folks didn't bother us. We stayed in the loop right on the gulf. There is not a bathhouse directly on this loop. The sites on this loop are also first come first serve. However, it is right on the gulf. There is a fairly busy road that divides you from the water. The other loops are fairly tightly packed, but the campground is well taken care of. They have a very nice free pool. There is a small waterpark for a fee in the state park. We did not go. I had read reviews about gross bathrooms prior to going and did not experience this on our trip. Due to the proximity of the road, I would not stay in the front/gulf camping loop with small children. We also went fishing in the gulf right across from the park. We just waded out to knee/hip deep and caught plenty of fish! read more

Reservations were made for 9/15/2020 thru 9/17/2020. On or about 9/08/2020, I received a call from a person identifying herself as a staff member at Buccaneer State Park. She stated that the park was cancelling our reservations because of the impending hurricane. I thought this was odd, but I trusted the person, and asked if I would receive a refund. She stated that they do not issue refunds, but that I would receive a credit of $89.88 for future use. She stated to call the park directly when I wanted to camp in the future. This December I called to make our reservations, and a woman stated that I had fulfilled my reservation on the previous date. We DIDNOT use our credit, nor did we stay there. I don't like to accuse people of unethical practices or fraudulent activities, but someone was allowed to stay at Campsite 36 that I paid for on 07/29/2020. I will be making a claim with my bank. I hope this does not happen to anyone else. Please BEWARE! read more
