We had transmission troubles on our way through town. We called Bryant and they said we could bring it in anytime that day and they would look at it. Finding the place is tricky, it's in line with 5 or so other repair shops. Right from the beginning I was treated respectfully and they tested it out right away. In about 20 minutes they knew roughly what was wrong. The owner showed me on a diagram, explaining where the 3rd and 4th gear clutches were, describing the symptoms and detailing a likely scenario he's known with my vehicle. Obviously they can only make educated guesses until it's taken apart since transmissions are complex machines. They gave me an estimated time frame for a rebuild, and an upper limit on the costs in the worst possible case. I told them about we were out of town with kids starting school in less than a week. They decided to put my vehicle ahead of a different vehicle which they knew the owners weren't in a hurry. They even came in on Saturday so we could leave to get home in time. The technician found what were likely 2 contributing causes for the transmission failure, fixed one of them and recommended we fix the other (not their line of work) as soon as possible. He did say the vehicle was drivable to our destination, several states away and explained how to keep an eye on things until I got the second repair done.
Overall an excellent experience. The only downside is their repair warranty is only honored within St Louis since they are an independent shop, not part of AAMCO. I'm sincerely hoping we don't have troubles since the warranty won't do much good 4 states away. read more
