My mother passed away on January 19th. We were originally told that she had weeks maybe months but she took a sudden down turn and passed away that day. It was by happenstance that I had an appointment at Bryan Braker Funeral Home that same day. I had made the appointment several days prior so we could talk about options and stuff but in light of mom's passing it made it far more urgent. So less than 4 hours after my Mom's passing I entered Bryan & Braker and was met by Greg Boyko. I informed him that my mother had passed away that morning. There was no condolences, there was no empathy, there was no emotion at all. Greg became focused on the fact that my mom's body was not at Bryan & Braker. He left the room several times having the front desk lady call Kaiser to find out why they hadn't been called yet to pick her up. Based on other reviews at this point I did see him as a "used car salesman". Afterall the sooner my mom was in their possession they could charge storage and refrigeration right? I had a unique situation. My mom had paid for her niche and cremation urn. But she had paid for the cremation itself up in Oregon where she was living at the time she paid. To Greg's credit he did call the funeral home up there and arranged for the money to be transferred down to me so there wouldn't be a loss. The meeting was just cold and unfeeling. I realize its a business but my Mom had JUST passed away. By the time we were done the total was about 3 times what Oregon charges. Which again I get it, its a business and California is much more expensive. There was also an extra charge for my mom's burial plaque because we wanted to add wording. But never once did he offer condolences or anything. Despite me being the primary executor to my mom the way he drew up the contract I had to take it to my sister who was not doing well with my mom's passing to have her sign it. Then had to make a trip back on Friday to drop it off. The following Monday Greg called to let me know he picked my mom's body up on Friday and that apparently he needed another signature which mercifully we could do via email. He eluded to a possible additional charge for something called an "air tray". Thankfully this was not added at anytime. Roughly 2 weeks later Greg called to advise that my mom's ashes, death certificates, etc was ready for pick up. I was at work already and asked if my sister could go. He reluctantly agreed preferring that I was to pick up. During the call he tried to state that I still owed for my mom's burial plaque. I reminded him that it was paid for along with the extra wording. After a brief research he confirmed that. Following my mom's memorial on the 17th of Feb (not at Bryan & Braker thank God) I called Greg to make arrangements for my mom's ashes to be interred. We set the date for the following Wednesday. My sister, brother-in-law, and myself arrived at 11am and the groundskeeper had a table setup and allowed us a few moments before interring my mom's ashes. It took about 2.5 months for my mom's plaque to come in and was just recently installed and it turned out just as we had asked. Which I appreciated. And is why this review was done now I wanted to ensure the entire transaction had been completed. Honestly I wanted to go through Vaca Hills Chapel because i know them and they are good God loving people who go to The Father's House. But my mom was very insistent that we used Bryan & Braker. So I honored her wishes. I just can't in good conscious give them more than 2 stars based on Yelp's rating scale. Greg needs to retire or go through some retraining on helping people who are grieving during the process. I personally will not be using them again. read more

I contacted the funeral home because I wanted to have my mother's ashes placed into a proper urn. When I contacted the funeral home the woman who answered was pleasant and told me not to worry someone would contact me to schedule for me to come in and bring the ashes. My Mom passed on Sunday,6/12/2022. The police called Bryan Baker Funeral Home to pick her up. The next morning I called Greg Boyko the one that was on call the day before. He was like using a used car salesman. I told him I was going to be using Vaca Hills Chapel. He told me then it would cost me $290 for refrigeration and $395 for transportation and told me to bring a check when I come pick up my Mom and he hung up. I will never use them or recommend them to anyone. If someone passes do not let them pick up your loved ones. He never once told me that he was sorry for my loss. read more
