Warning to Parents - Mall of Scandinavia (Solna)…read more I want to share an incident that may be important for other parents with small children. In baby lounge, my child was injured when she fell. There is an alarm button in the space, which I pressed. The alarm began sounding loudly, but for approximately eight minutes no staff came to the location. After waiting about eight minutes for someone to arrive, while my child was crying hysterically after hitting their head, I was forced to take my child to medical care myself because no one from the shopping center's staff ever came to help. During this entire time, the alarm was sounding loudly in the children's feeding area. I am writing this so that other parents are aware that visible safety features do not always mean that help will arrive within a reasonable time.

Mall of Scandinavia is the largest mall in Sweden and the third-largest in the Nordic countries…read moreafter Sørlandssenteret in Norway and Sello in Finland, the latter is only 952 meters squared larger, however - so it is rather close. Being in Solna, it is in Stockholm County so you can still use your SL pass to get here via the train or metro, I would, however, recommend the train due to the close proximity of Solna Station compared to the metro which is a much larger walk (it involved going under a bridge which no GPS seemed to be able to navigate causing me to get lost for over half an hour) - of course Solna Station is quicker by commuter rail too, just seven minutes into Stockholm City station. The mall is quite new as it opened in 2015 and it still feels pretty modern in most areas - I do like the flat escalators to get from the entrance and car parks up and around the mall which is more accessible for anyone and I really do prefer them to escalators and find them to be highly underrated and underused. The mall is huge being over three floors - there is even a confusingly named floor "0.5" which can only be accessed through one lift - getting to this could be better. Floor 0.5 provides access into the Friends Arena, home to AIK and the Swedish national football team which is a stone's throw away, directly across from the mall - alongside Vapiano. (A chain I had much struggle with during my time in Sweden) Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield owns this mall they also seem to own many other malls around the country - I did find the layouts between this mall and others including Taby Centrum to be similar in the sense the same signs which say "go forward for x store or toilets etc" were the same look and font - and although there is no individual branding for the mall company, they do seem similar. Westfield does have some pretty great, cool malls back home in London so it was no surprise when I found out they had an involvement here! I did find it hard to find staff members around the mall to get help when needed - such as finding lifts and certain stores which was a shame as it seemed they only had the larger and anchor stores named on the overhead maps - probably because they're an anchor tenant and paying them more money. With brands including JD Sports, Clas Ohlson, Hugo Boss, Adidas, G-Star Raw, Foot Locker and more they do have a good selection of stores which are big brands and international names which we have in the UK, (other than Clas Ohlson sadly who made the decision to close all of their stores here) as well as Swedish stores like Apotek. The mall's website states they have 44 restaurants but I still can't help in being disappointed with the selection - after some bad experiences with service at some of their bigger brands including Starbucks (large store upstairs, but downstairs it is too close together, cramped and uncomfortable), O'Leary's (unauthentic, AWOL staff) and Vapiano (staff don't seem to care, rudeness, slow wait times). There are other places, which aren't really brands - none of which screamed out at me or looked too exciting - Top Floor being hidden on the highest floor of the mall and in a car park was surely strange. Overall, especially considering the high taxation which if offputting to stores in Stockholm city centre this is a pretty good mall. Is it the best in the area? It's close but no but that doesn't mean the need to take anything away from MOS - while it might lack the contemporary, central feel of MOOD and perhaps the better service and Apple Store you can see at Taby Centrum - it's still a large, modern and cool mall and one of the better places to shop at the city, made better in a way by the city's two other malls as they all offer different things but here at Mall of Scandanavia, they have a great selection of stores, it's in a good location for access to Stockholm city centre or the Friends Arena so still warrants a good four-star rating.

It is also behind the huge, grand NK department store which is one of the city's oldest department stores. Don't come here just for shopping - well that is a main part of it but the experience here is much different to the other malls of the city and I think that offering of something different is what makes this mall unique - it is pretty swanky inside, reminding me of a modern-day rendition of Afflecks Palace in the Northern Quarter, Manchester. As far as I recall all entrances are step-free, you can either go in at the main level either side of Starbucks or down a side street where there is a small lift - but do be careful using it though as the lift has a grey shield which goes so you can't see out of it, don't make the mistake I did and think that meant the lift door was open - this is the first time I'm actually complaining about how clean it was, the lift was so spotless it looked like the door wasn't there at all! There are also ramps when needed. I did find the toilets hard to locate which seemed to be the only thing not stated on their store directory. This isn't an ordinary shopping mall - if you want to come here and shop till you drop this isn't the place for that but it still is a pretty cool addition to the shopping scene of Stockholm and actually in the city centre - which is often limited due to the huge taxes of over 50% imposed by the council! 4*

You can visit places like a juice bar, a sushi bar, Bagel Street Cafe, Zocalo, Chillbox frozen greek yogurt, Forno Romano, Indiska, Clas Ohlson, H&M, Lindex, Hunkemöller, Saint Tropez, Report, Ecco, Esprit and many more! I also just noticed that they're opening a Brow Bar soon too! I think they have everything you can find at the bigger malls regularly and a few stores that I think are a little more unique for Stockholm. The only one I think it's really missing is Åhlens for some reason. Conveniently, I looked up the link you can go to for a listing of all the boutiques: www.liljeholmstorget.se The only downsides about this mall are pretty much the downsides of going to any of the malls in Sweden. The air-conditioning is used sparsely in the summer (hard for us temperature controlled Americans) and the customer service also sucks pretty bad compared to in the states (just try to return something to Esprit... you'll get treated like a criminal). However, the things I do really like about this mall is the location (right across from hipster Hornstull (Hipstull?). The T-banna leads right into the lower level for easy access. I also really LOVE the ICA in the basement. The Gluten free section is huge! It also carries a lot of American things like mac and cheese, Reese's, Orville Redenbacher popcorn, Snapple and Doritos so I can get my fix! =-) There are also other grocery stores on site like Willys, Coop and Lidl, but I don't think they're as good. On another note, I really like the free parking on weekends (and free for 2 hours when you buy something at ICA during the week... get a slip from the cashier.) It's nice to bring the car when your loading up on groceries and in a hurry. Great place to live near! Two thumbs up! =)

I would not travel to get here but it fills a gap for people living in the surrounding areas and parts of Södermalm. The mall is spread over three floors as well as some stores facing the square outside. You will fins your basic H&M, MQ, Brothers, Lindex and those types of stores. I would not go clothes shopping here as it is fairly basic but it is nice to have a few (3 when this is written) pharmacies, Clas Ohlson, a book store and a sporting goods store but what mainly impresses is the selection of grocery stores. The best one in Stockholm Ica kvantum is here with their excellent meat and cheese selection. Then there is an impressive selection for people who want other things like Asian food store and two more focused on low prices (Willys and lidl) and Coop (not sure what they focus on, neither price nor quality). All in all a good suburban mall.

It feels like your driving up to a mall in the movie Waynes World or Weird Science. In the US, most large shopping malls are either closed or on the decline. Americans have been gravitating towards more time efficient methods of shopping for the past 10-20 years and malls are now considered time consuming with their large parking lots and extensive landscape of stores to navigate. However, Sweden is a much slower paced culture that likes to enjoy a more leisurely quality of life. That, and Sweden's love of American consumer culture is why I think that larger and larger malls have been popping up everywhere around Stockholm the past few years. Heron City actually has been around much longer than a lot of the others and is a bit smaller, but if your from the US will feel a little like stepping back in time. They have a food court, a water fountain, a restaurant called "Amazone" that mimics "The Rain Forest Cafe," a play place for children, a movie theater and a few large and small stores. The only thing It's missing is a large midwestern clothing store like a Macy's or a Dillard's! HA! Usually, we come here for the movies, bowling, arcade games and dinner (in either Pizza Hut, O'leary's, or the food court). Somehow, we usually end up going in Mio or Media Markt when there's time to kill before a film and I end up purchasing something (movie days can get get a little expensive when i'm waiting surrounded by home decor, electronics and sportswear) $$$$!!!! =) =) =) TIP: This is a great place to bring your kids. They have these funny large (fake) animals that kids can "ride" and that large play place upstairs that I mentioned. The arcade inside of O'leary's and the movie theater are also pretty kid friendly. TIP: There's a funny little booth where you can buy a cup of prepared fresh (not popped) corn. Yes, I said CORN! haha.
