I would highly suggest avoiding this H&R Block. It is very likely the employees there will either…read morescam you or not help you as much as anyone else could. In the past there was an employee that actually knew how to assist people but unfortunately he no longer works there so I cannot suggest anyone visits this H&R Block. Instead they have an employee known as Alex that scams people out of money or the other uneducated employees that aren't fully aware as to how the programs they use work. More details if you are interested will be provided below. Basically I am a young guy that doesn't make much money. So all I need to fill out is a 10-40EZ (anyone with a brain could fill this out) and technically a CA 540 (this one I admit is a little more complicated but anyone that can go to a college could certainly fill it out) since my mom claims me and I make more than $4300 a year. Now for the past 4 years technically I was supposed to fill one out, but It didn't matter that I didn't because one i didn't owe the state any money (due to low income) and two I would maybe get $0-11, overall not worth the trouble. The past H&R employee knew this. However Alex convinced my mom it had to be filled out and that he needed to do it. So basically she spent $57 to get $11. She was scammed. I spoke to people from the CA.Gov website about what would happen if I didn't fill out the form and basically they said nothing unless I owed money. So overall if this H&R employee was actually trying to help her he would have told her hey here's a 10-40EZ form have your son fill it out, and consider filling out the CA 540 but if not it's a ok. Or despite him having 15 years of experience, he didn't know this. Because of either of these options, it doesn't seem worth going to them since one, they are going to scam you or two, they just don't know how to do their jobs well. I have done business with Bayne Bookkeeping since 2010. They did a great job. In 2014 I received a…read moredemand for payment from California tax board for 2011. It was only $175. Each quarter I received a statement with additional fees and penalties. Dick Bayne would always tell me not to pay. He would say I didn't owe it. In 2018 the state attached my bank account and took my balance, plus the bank charged me $100 for their inconvenience! Bayne said he would handle it. Two months later the state attached another bank account. After fees and penalties I lost $900. Bayne has refused to back his work or provide an explanation. He won't even answer, or return my calls. Certified tax accountants back their work. I should have only lost the owed tax of $175. Be careful. I trusted them. Now I worry if there will be audits in the future and I will be on my own.
