Most of the establishments looked pretty quiet and dead except for Smokey and the club next door. Since we weren't in the mood for clubbing, we decided to go to Smokey. The moment we walked in, I noticed that it totally lived up to its namesake and was totally... smokey. Too smokey. It almost seemed like there was a fire going on inside. The place was pretty packed and busy, but we managed to snag a little bar table by the door. It was next to the vending machine for ciggies and under a large clock, so I could keep tabs on exactly what time it was. :) I sat on a high bar stool by the wall, while my bf sat with his back towards the room. It wasn't the best position for him to be in, as people kept bumping into him as they were walking by. He got a beer, and I ordered a mint tea because I didn't feel like drinking any more alcohol. I loved how the mint tea came with tons of fresh mint leaves. Totally awesome. They also gave me a Pickwick English tea bag with it, which I didn't bother to put in, as I didn't want any caffeine so late at night. We left after only one drink, as we were tired and the place was too smokey to hang out for long.

Let's just say I observed certain recreational activities in Amsterdam that I think the world should know about. Amsterdam is brand spankin' new to Yelp, after all. So they need all the reviews they can get. Smokey's is smack in the middle of Rembrandt Square, which is a haven for tourists. The inside resembles an above ground neon-lit cave. Pool tables in the back. Music videos playing on the flat screens. Every time I hear Kid Cudi's "Memories", I think of this place. Everyone stopped what they were doing to sing along :) Tables are communal. Most patrons are college-aged. They have a zig zag vending machine and they sell pre-rolled or bagged product. According to my traveling companion, their merchandise was much more pricey than at neighboring coffee shops (like Rokerij, which is awesome), but since Smokey's is a better hangout spot in a more central location - you pay a bit more. The quality is mediocre, though. I enjoyed a 4 euro pineapple strawberry smoothie at the bar. They don't serve alcohol here though, only smoothies, which I found to be quite common in the coffee shops of Amsterdam. The folks behind the counter were pretty nice folks, too. Overall, I would recommend Smokey's for the younger crowd.

Compared to the US, we were pleasantly surprised how inexpensive drinks were at a music venue/club. We came for Techno Tuesday and it was a vibe. A smaller crowd probably but we didn't have to wait outside or pay any cover. We went around midnight. Around 3AM there was a line outside (Euros party late). The upstairs has like riser seating throughout and the downstairs is one big dance floor. The bathrooms were a little bit of a walk (for the good ones). Overall, we had a good time here!

Digital locker system that lets you unlock any time you need it I don't know if there is always enough lockers for everyone, but if you can get one it's awesome. They also have a separate wardrobe / clothed check if you don't get a locker. 3. Free water - not sure if this is normal but glasses of tap water were free and that makes a huge difference. It's unfortunate that after decades of operating, their quality has gone down so much that the food is not only inedible; but actively dangerous. Attempts to reach them have gone unanswered. They should take food poisoning seriously.

Not only that, I saw LMFAO in full on cheetah/leopard outfit with the fro and glasses... STARSTRUCK! Next, head to the counter and purchase an "AIR" charge card. This is what you use to get a locker and to purchase drinks at the bar-they don't accept cash. All clubs should adopt this policy since it's so efficient and you don't risk losing anything as long as you have your Air card! Right next to it is a room full of lockers, big and small. Throw everything in there and lock it with your Air card. Walk through big double doors and turn the corner and get ready to be blown away! The place is set up so that the main stage and dance floor is 4-5 levels BELOW. So at the bottom level is the main dance floor with the dj booth elevated. Next to it are two "rooms" with bars and tables. If it gets too crowded you can walk up the stairs and dance on any of the levels. There's also a bar at the very top level so there's a place to chill and drink and just watch the party. The bathroom is pretty small, with some urinals for men and 2 stalls for girls. There's another stall for guys that I used when there was no guys in line... The sound system was banging and the laser lights and strobe lights were pretty crazy too! Everyone there was into it and just wanted to dance and have fun! Eva Simons was there and sang some songs and they also had other live singers sing some other songs. At one point Paris Hilton was partying in the DJ booth with Afrojack. Everyone there was just wanted to have a good time, dance, and best of all, there was no drama. One other thing, even though you can smoke in there I never felt it was TOO smoky or TOO hot. Sadly, the party ended around 6-ish (It was originally only suppose to go until 4). They do all kinds of parties, not really one style. The crowd is young and hip. I liked how there are plenty of toilets and they are clean. What was weird is that men/woman use the same toilets,. It didn't really bother me though, I didn't really like that you have to buy an AIR-card. You buy this card and place money on it (it's free when you add 30 euros of more) so you can use your card to pay in the club. It's handy to pay with but you cant see how much money is on it so you stand in line for ordering a drink and when it's you turn you don't have enough money on the card.. meh.. You also use the card for the lockers. AIR is a cool club. It not totally my style (I like places a bit more alternative) but I don't mind going here every once in a while, when there is a cool party planned.

I have never been so disrespected and humiliated in my life. This all happened in the early hours of December 8th. I entered the nightclub and immediately found it strange that we were required to leave our umbrellas outside, especially since the club has lockers. I placed some accessories in the tiny locker, but not my coat, as I was cold and the coat wouldn't fit. I stayed in the club for about 30 minutes and decided to look for the bathroom. Unable to find it, I asked a security guard, who immediately told me I had to put my coat (which I was wearing) in the locker, as it was mandatory! I explained I just wanted to use the bathroom, but the security guard wouldn't let me and even called over another guard. Together, they blocked my access not only to the bathroom but also to the dance floor where my friends were, preventing me from notifying them about what was happening. The security guards abused their authority, restricted my movement and freedom, and essentially forced me to put my coat in the locker, even though I was cold and felt more comfortable wearing it. I decided to retrieve the rest of my belongings from the locker and left, feeling utterly stressed, humiliated, and disrespected as never before - and I have been to many nightclubs without anything like this happening. Avoid this place at all costs. The security staff should be reprimanded or even fired because this is no way to treat anyone. I will never set foot in this establishment again. I go out to have fun and unwind, and I ended up feeling even worse
