I've driven on Bruckner Blvd countless times, not realizing the major transformation that has taken place in this part of Soundview. In addition, a major redevelopment is underway where Toys R Us, Kmart and various small retailers once stood. Now in April 2026, finally taking the time to stop by, it's enlightening to see this mall transformed to include an Aldi's, additional shopping options, fairly clean walkways, plus some hints of natures greenery revitalizing and improving the area. So many nice stores and options here. I remember when Caldors changed to Kmart and now i hear it's going to be a target. When toys r us was huge and pizza hut was a hit. So many clothing stores for women that have changed to sneaker stores. When the 99 cent store was there and now it's a huge Burlington. And finally, i worked at keyfood during college that's now a really nice ShopRite. This area is always changing and updating and there's always parking available for those shopping. Bruckner Commons (or 'Plaza' as I thought it was called) made shopping sprees easy for my parents back in the late 70s as a one-stop shopping spot. I've seen stores come and go throughout the eons I've lived in Soundview- especially the legendary Korvette that turned into a TSS, turning into a Caldor, then a Kmart (that went out of it's misery in '21-'22). There was always a supermarket of some kind towards the back, lots of clothing, shoe stores on the right side and a Toys "R" Us that served the area just fine- even when I bought infant toys and things for my daughter in the mid 90s. Fast forward to current times- there's no Toys "R" Us, no more Kmart or none of those smaller shops I remember from ages ago. This plaza has since evolved with a Shoprite, Burlington Coat Factory, Boston Market and a few other stores. So to Soundview folks (and surrounding areas like Castle Hill, Parkchester, etc), Bruckner Commons is golden. The plaza (as I still like to call it) is kept clean and they softened the look with shrubs and flowers in some spots that flow very nicely. It was a popular plaza ages ago- but now, with the new uplift in recent years, it's bustling. read more

So many of our stores have been removed and they haven't brought in good food spots, clothing stores or activities in the area. Stores that are there are things like ShopRite, smash burger and DIME bank. They also have a small sneaker store and glasses store. Not the same like in the last back when they had blockbuster, fun zone, and toys r us. Unfortunately though, this is our only plaza spot in the Bronx area. read more

If you are Boogie Down born and raised as I am. You sometimes feel like people don't give us the respect we deserve. Always referenced as one of the outer boroughs... hard eye roll! Unless it's to mention the Yankees, the Bronx Zoo, or Botanicals Gardens people from other parts of NYC can get that strange look on their faces when we say "I'm from Da Bronx" .... and trust it's not bc you say "Da" and not "The"... Facts! Now, we have been starting to step up. Slowly, in little pockets here and there, but we are starting to shine. The Bruckner Plaza shopping center has been having an overhaul. Much like Bay Plaza, that now has a mall, of course on a smaller scale but still updated and reenergized. Some anticipated new additions Burlington Boston Market Shop Rite This is exciting because this community has been without a local supper market since the closing of Key Food more then a few years ago.
