Rhode Island has 5 giant trolls in various parks, and Ninigret has 2 of them: Greta Granite & Erik Rock. We stayed to the main paths as there are a lot of ticks around. And we saw a couple of fat turkeys who are probably feasting on the ticks. There are tennis courts, picnic area, a playground, observatory & senior center on the grounds. And plenty of parking.

Created by Danish artist Thomas Dambo, these massive sculptures are made from recycled materials and aim to promote conservation. The trolls can be found in various locations. I got to see only 2 of them that I can cross off my mapping for troll's list. * Charlestown's Ninigret Park is home to the Erik Rock and Greta Granite. It's accessible via trails and wooded paths. * Erik Rock lounges beside Little Ninigret Pond. * Greta Granite is located further along a wooded path marked by clues. It's a lot of fun to get on the mapping of the trolls and hunt them out all over the world when you're visiting the areas. It's amazing to experience these pieces of art created and designed by Thomas Dambo.

The park always has a few dogs, and when you're lucky it can get busy, but not so much that it is overwhelming, which i have experienced with other parks. Highly recommend this place to let your pup enjoy some off leash time in the great outdoors.

I didn't see land mines everywhere, so that means responsible owners pick up after their dogs. A few water bowls for the pups, that's a plus. Variety of trees that are excellent shade. We especially enjoyed the sculpture "The Runaway Bunny" by Margaret Wise Brown. Love that the park was founded by a woman, Harriet Wilcox. Opposite the park, there is a nice mural with her image and apparently a quote by her "The People Shall Have Their Park". Respect. The park is open dawn to 9pm. Street parking.

It feels to me like I am in in a European park, with fountain, statues, and carefully sculpted ponds, with bench seating throughout. It's a large space with winding walking paths. Much nicer in the summer when everything is in full bloom but even in the winter or early spring on a sunny day it still has a lot to offer a nature buff like myself. You can park on the street for free and access the park at different points. Definitely worth a visit particularly in the warmer weather.

It looked like there was another large part of the dog park but for whatever reason it was closed off and not being utilized. This was a couple of months ago so I'm not sure if it has since opened.

Lots of port-a-john near the beaches and a building closer to parking. No swimming was allowed at the beaches. Plenty of fishing though. Nice place to walk and look for shells. The mansion gardens are small and beautiful. Lots of colorful plants. Graceful collonade. Definitely a nice spot for photos. Lots of pollenators enjoying the gardens too. Pathways through the park are a mix of paved and gravel. Watch out for goose poop when crossing through the fields. Pets are welcome on a leash and be sure to pick up after them. State parks are "carry in, carry out" so there are no trash bins. Be sure to bring your own trash bag to dispose of your trash at home.

Dinner came from a Mexican food truck parked right outside, tacos and beer are a combo I'll never say no to. Once trivia wrapped up, we stuck around and played some board games they had available. It turned into one of those unexpectedly awesome nights where time just flies. A really unique enclosure that I have never seen at an animal shelter. We have been back a few times since, and it is always clean and the staff is always friendly and caring. The adoption process was very simple and straightforward, just know that is is cash only, so if you plan on bringing home a new family member that day come prepared. Would definitely adopt from them again if we were looking to expand our family. :)
