Dr. Jespersen is absolutely very skilled in doing root canal. I was there waiting for him at the same time his assistant preparing me for the surgery (he is tough on training assistants). After coming in, he was fast, finished the treatment within about 7 minutes. I was worried in the beginning but could feel that he was very confident and skillful! I returned after two months for followup check and was told that the treatment was successful. I returned again after six months for final checkup and was very surprised and disappointed that Dr. Jespersen did not come to see me this time. This is why I took out on star-- 1.5 stars if I could. The assistant took an X-ray and showed to him and returned saying that everything seems fine and then trying to send me home. I actually had several questions to ask the doctor to confirm before going to the next step with my tooth. I want confirmation because I have done many treatments with this tooth and don't want to make mistakes again. The assistant answered my questions but it's always like "maybe...perhaps..." but I need a professional and firm answer! This visit ended up my asking questions one by one and the assistant went to another room to ask the doctor and return to give me answers. To be honest, very disappointing.... read more

Great staff and great place to get a root canal, i defiantly recommend him, i got my root canal done last week

I was a patient of Dr. Bruce Jesperson's wife, Dr. Marilyn Jesperson, and am still a patient of Dr. Alex Kim, who is Dr. Marilyn Jesperson's successor. I had an experience with Dr. Bruce Jesperson recently that I would like to share. 5 Star Rating Diagnostic Skill 5 Star Rating Technical Skills: Performing Root Canal Efficiently 5 Star Rating Ability to resolve dental problem quickly "real-time" 4 Star Rating Empathy with customer Probably my biggest objection was that he wouldn't stop his root canal when I was when their was sinus drainage pooling at the back of my throat causing me to gag or feel the desperate need to swallow. I had to wait until he was ready. It's your decision whether the last rating derails you for selecting this Endodontist. read more

Came here today from a referral from my dentist for a root canal. I agree with all the rave reviews. Dr. Jespersen is awesome!! He did my root canal in under 45 minutes. I did have nitrouse, but that's because I was a little anxious about the procedure. The last time I had a root canal was in 2003. I had my consultation on Monday and had the root canal on Wednesday (today). His staff is the best. The front office was organized and efficient ( kudos to Rachel for her professionalism). They had contacted my insurance company before I arrived and let me know if there were any costs I would incur. I highly recommend anyone who needs a root canal to see him. You will not be disappointed. read more

Although as stated above, he is not super friendly. He did the job extremely well and very efficiently. I had no sensitivity to temperature right away and no biting sensitivity one week after my root canal. It was awesome! read more

He gave me a root canal and it was really quick and easy. He didn't numb me more than necessary and he was so efficient. I had absolutely NO PAIN after the root canal. That's a miracle! I would only go see him from now on for any work I need done. read more

I am a big fan of Dr.Bruce J. "Someone" strongly recommended a root canal and I decided to get an expert opinion. The expert opinion from Dr.Bruce was that root canal is not required and that I don't have any infection. I went back to "someone" and they were not happy and decided to send me to another expert. I had to pay from my pocket as my insurance doesn't cover 3 dentists in a year. As soon as I stepped in I noticed all the certificates from big schools, the expert opinion was to undergo surgery right away. I waited for 5 years before writing this review. Thank you Dr.Bruce !! read more

did awesome root treatment, visited 3 times, every time with perfect result!

Awesome - best root canal. Have had a bunch done over the years but Dr. Jespersen is the root whisperer. No pain!

I rarely write reviews but I had SUCH AN AMAZING experience with dr. bruce jespersen today I had to share! He was kind, efficient, and very knowledgeable. He took time to answer my questions and put my nerves at ease! I am usually very nervous at the dentist and this was a wonderful apt. Most importantly he got rid of my pain. His staff was helpful and nice, which i greatly appreciated. Overall, I would highly recommend him to ANYONE looking for a root canal! GREAT experience! read more

I had a few root canals from bruce, talk about no more pain and he is fairly quick.Bruce comes highly recomended from me . ps. he's a car guy! read more

I was referred by a friend who had a root canal performed by Dr. Jespersen. My initial visit involved getting a new root canal. My appointment was @ 8:40am. The entire process only took an hour (completing paperwork, local anesthesia, root canal, and co-payment). I was literally out the door @ 9:40am. I felt absolutely no pain during or after the procedure. I had a follow up visit with Dr. Jespersen to "redo" another root canal that was performed incorrectly by a general dentist several years ago. I thought this would be a true testiment to his skills as an Endodontist.. He has to remove the old work and start anew...I thought for sure I would have some kind of pain or discomfort. To my delight I was proved wrong. Not only did I not have any discomfort or pain the entire process once again only took an hour!!! read more

WOW! Dr. Jespersen is great ,if you need a root canal, this guy knows his craft, and staff is just awesome. read more

I have seen Dr. Jespersen 3 times for retreats. One was for a molar that a previous endo neglected to remove one nerve. The next was for a file that was left in the canal and the last was for a difficult canal that had some calcification in it that the previous endo was too lazy to spend time to work through to get to the nerve. Needless to say I wasn't happy to have to go through these root canals again! They were difficult cases, however Dr. Jespersen got the job done! He is a perfectionist and determined! I was so happy to have found him! I did read reviews here on Yelp and really took in the good reviews. I too am not worried about bedside manners even though I found him to be cordial. I also found his staff to be very nice! He has excellent equipment to get to the root of the problem (pun intended). If you want excellent results then Dr. Jespersen is the Endo to go to! read more

I came here yesterday (12/15/16) to get a root canal procedure on my front tooth (tooth #9). Normally, I go to Hughes Dental for any dental procedure but Dr. Hughes himself referred me to Dr. Jespersen's office. I filled out a new patient form which didn't take long and I was taken in about 10-15 minutes after arriving. The dental assistant took my front tooth x-ray and was very chatty friendly, which I also like. Lol. She was talking to me about what to get her mother-in-law for Christmas so I told her wine and chocolate. Ha! That always works, right?! So after she finished taking my x-rays, she told me that Dr. Jespersen is left-handed so if anything hurts during the procedure, just raise my right hand as a signal and don't put my hand around my face... because he hates that. Understandable. He came in after examining my x-rays and introduced himself. Chit chatted for a little before he started doing the root canal procedure. I thought it would take an hour or so but it only took about 30 minutes. This guy is pretty good and does know his stuff. After he was finished, he just got up and left for his next patient so his assistant finished the job with the temporary filling. I don't really mind that he left just like that but I wished he said something about the procedure is done and that his assistant will finish the rest of it. I'd still go back here if I need any more root canal done though. read more

Dr. Jespersen and his assistant were very professional. The assistant explained the procedure to me from start to finish before it began so I knew what to expect. The Dr. mentioned there was a small probability in my case that it would not work 100% to relieve the chewing pain. For me, the risk was worth taking. Billing was also explained beforehand so that I would know my payment amount. The numbing was enough as to not feel any pain during the procedure. I was instructed to raise my hand if any pain was felt and they would take care of it. Fortunately it was not necessary. Discomfort with keeping the jaw open wide was to be expected. If needed, I would schedule with this Dr. for future treatment. read more

Wow says it all. He wrote the book on competence. I highly recommend him and his team.

In late June 2017, my dentist referred me to Dr. Jespersen for a root canal. Dr. Jespersen is a well sought expert, and as such his schedule seems to be very busy. Nevertheless, he took the time to first explain the steps in the procedure, and the fact that my mouth would be covered except for a small opening. He also explained what I should expect following the procedure, and answered a few questions that I had. Then he focused on the procedure, which went very smoothly, although the root was curved. The root canal was done in no time. Dr. Jespersen's hands-on expertise was obvious. During the procedure, he often paused to check on how I was feeling. The pain disappeared immediately and inflammations subsided a few days later. Dr. Jespersen's office staff have been professional, courteous and efficient. I recommend Dr. Jespersen for root canals , without any reservations. read more

I went to see Dr. Jespersen for a consultation. I had slight tenderness in a molar that he had treated several years before. He looked at the x-ray and said that it needed to be re-treated. I asked him for other options, even asking about extraction and he said that retreatment would be successful because of new techniques and tools. Before I knew it, he and his assistant bullied me into having another root canal on the same tooth. Within two minutes I was anesthetized and the drilling began. He was so rough that I thought that my jaw would break. The rubber dam covered my nose so I could not breathe and the saliva running down the back of my throat caused panic because I could not swallow. This 40 minutes of terror cost me $1386.00. Which I paid because I do not have insurance. But it get worse. Exactly one week later I went back because of the extreme pain in the tooth. He said that he could not do anything for me. "If it is not better in one week you will have to have it extracted." And it gets much worse. I have an artificial mitral valve and I am very high risk for a bacterial endocarditis. This unnecessary treatment may be life threatening for me. Dr. Jespersen cares more about his pocketbook than he does about his patients. I would have been better off flushing the 1400.00. read more

Just stay away from this root canal factory! If he doesn't get your money his partner, the periodontist, will. They work together...if a root canal isn't necessary on his end he will refer you to the periodontist. $2.000 later. They will say a bone graft is necessary and it will relieve pain but it doesn't. Finally went somewhere else and all was needed was a sanding down of the bottom or top of a tooth. Now no pain. Dr, Jespersen is a very rude man. How he is still in business is unknown. Be aware if you make an apt with him, he may not actually see you. He communicates with his assistant. Why did I take 3 hours off work to go to another appt with my husband? They book their appt too close and you will wait and then not to see him is absurd! I told my reg DDS not to refer people to him anymore. read more

It's been some time since I had work done by Dr. Jespersen but when I read some of the reviews, I felt I needed to discuss my experiences. (He was originally referred to me by my regular dentist for advanced treatment.) I give my wholehearted endorsement to his skill. I went to him 3x for different procedures. He is the best endodontist I've ever had for root canal work. [After a specialist, do NOT let a regular dentist do your root canal... ain't worth it!] He was professional and courteous and so fast and painless. That was remarkable. I never had such a thoroughly done root canal with minimal discomfort done so quickly and no post-surgery issues. If you need an endodontist who is your new best friend, go somewhere else. If you want THE BEST, go to Dr. Jespersen. I also thought he was very polite and he is compassionate. He is just efficient and makes sure he rolls through his appointments so none of us have to sit around waiting. He answered my questions very respectfully. He's definitely not one to waste time and I greatly appreciated his style and grateful for his skill. I wish we had more professionals like him who are so skilled that the process is a breeze rather than a trauma. And, to top it off, he was the first doctor to notice that my previous dentist (not a specialist) had actually left a small tool in the canal of one of my teeth. And he knew exactly how to handle the situation. I'd give Dr. Jespersen 10 stars if I could. read more

today I had horrible experience with Dr. Jespersen ; I had a root canal with Dr. Jespersen ; the whole procedure was a torture for me ; he constantly persisted me to open more widely my mouth which was beyond my limit ; his assistance was a rude woman ; after ending the procedure without saying any word or waiting if I have any question or concern he left the room and never returned ; the staff never go over the copay amount before the procedure and his assistance told me for this root canal they charge me more than what they supposed to charge me !! . They asked to to check back within 6 month but I will never go back to this person any more ; read more

I was referred here by my new regular -also great- dentist for a tooth that I was told earlier, could not be saved. This is an outstanding practice, smoothly run, with a friendly, caring, extremely professional staff. I had never before been to an Endodontist and the word 'root canal' has always sounded very scary. However, I really did want the tooth saved and regretted having two earlier teeth pulled when they might have been saved (if I had not been living in Germany, that is, where dentists left much to be desired). Dr Jespersen is an outstanding dentist who I had heard described as the top Endodontist in Cupertino. So true! I settled in and in less than an hour, the procedure was completed and painless! I have another session ahead of me for a larger tooth and am looking forward to it. I used to enjoy going to a (good) dentist and I feel that way again, thanks to this experience. read more

I have never met anyone more greedy for money! Don't they have a concious? I went in for a consultation and came back with a missing front tooth and root canal and was told to see my dentist to make a temporary tooth. What if she was not in? Aren't they suppose to care for the patient, understand the big picture before they actually start doing anything!!!! And give you all the options BEFORE they remove your tooth! read more

I have terrible teeth and have spent a liftime at dentists. For root canals, I have been going to Dr. Jespeson for 10 years. I find everything about the visit, excellent. I like him because he is professional, efficient, and obviously very good judged by the lack of pain and lack of return problems on the same tooth. All this relates to vast and successful experience. Some of the YELP reviews talk about irrelevant things as if they are Prima Donnas. If you want great "bedside manners", go get a lover. What do you want, to chit-chat while your mouth is open and with analgesics? Or perhaps have him hold your hand instead of dig into the root? Or maybe tell you a joke or his life story and ask you questions that you wonder how to answer with an arrested mouth, or worse, chit-chat with the nurses? Get real, privileged Americans. If you want good root canal work, I found Dr. Jesperson to be excellent. read more

Had the best experience I could've had having a root canal. I was referred by my dentist and had to go in 2 days after she worked on my tooth. It was my first root canal. I was beyond nervous. Maria, Dr. Jesperson's assistant, answered all my questions and talked to me and made me feel comfortable. She was great. Dr. Jesperson was confident, I didn't feel anything (big concern of mine) and he told me when he was done and made feel like everything was going to be fine. He was very efficient..it was fast and he knows what he is doing. He and Maria did a great job on me. Would recommend this doctor, assistant and this office to everyone. Thank you for making this experience the best it could've been. read more

First time I've ever had a root canal without some sort of gas or medication. I was totally relaxed and had no pain at all. The SHOTS didn't even hurt....he is that good! My dentist was so impressed she is going to recommend her patients to Dr. Jespersen. Because of his work, my dentist was able to just add a filling to the crown so I didn't have to have it replaced. She said that some doctors DESTROY the crown but was totally impressed with his work. read more

Just had an emergency root canal here in the last week. Before coming to the appointment I was a little nervous because everyone makes root canals seem like the worst thing. Dr. Jespersen did amazing work and I did not even need to use my pain pills after (only very slight discomfort). I was so relieved that they were able to get me into the office quickly, and out of the office quickly as well. The procedure took about 40 minutes. Dr. Jespersen is very professional, efficient, and focused on his work which is fine by me. His assistants are very knowledgeable and will explain everything you need to know before the Dr. comes in. read more

I have EXTREME dentist phobia. I have to take anti anxiety medication for a cleaning, that's the level of crazy that I get going to a dentist. My dentist referred me to Dr. Jesperson for an emergency root canal, and they got me in quickly. I walked in, filled out the forms, told them I was crazy and asked for laughing gas. They said they offer it, but there's a small fee. I said that's fine, I'll pay anything. So I lay in the chair, the assistant does the x Ray. Dr jesperson comes in, says hello, gives me my numbing shot and then starts me on the laughing gas. The whole thing flew by, then I was done. I was nervous because a lot of people mentioned here that he doesn't explain a lot or talk a lot. Maybe it's just me, but the last thing in the world I want is someone explaining the drilling that's happening in my mouth. More to the point, I've had four root canals and this one was the least pain I've ever had after the procedure. And there was an infection. I will go to dr jesperson for any dental work I can from now on!! read more

I went to this doctor twice, both times were emergency visits and although he had a lot of other patients he found the time for the patient in pain. He was very professional (beleive me, I've seen things), but he didn't talk much and some can treat it as being unfriendly. Rest of his office staff is also friendly and professional. read more

Dr. Jespersen and his team were excellent. I live in Santa Cruz County but work here in Cupertino and merely chose his office because of his status on my dental plan. Extremely efficient and effective. I was referred for a root canal by my regular dentist due to a really bad toothache. I got an appointment the next day. I was in and out of there within about an hour of my appointment time, including the time spent filling out new patient forms before hand and paying for it afterwards. The actual root canal only took about 40 minutes -- I thought he was less than half-way through when Dr. Jespersen said he was just going to put on the sealant and finish up. He was out of there immediately after he wrapped up (which would explain why the waiting times are so short in his office). But I was able to get all my questions answered by his very efficient and competent assistant. I should also mention that I was nearly 7 months pregnant at the time, and he was well-versed on the limitations regarding which antibiotics to prescribe afterwards and what sort of anesthetic to use. I got the root canal done under carbocaine (not as long-lasting as novocaine) and only needed one top-up shot half-way through. Also, had very little pain afterwards (did not need to take Tylenol or anything). Highly recommended if you want your root canals over-with quickly and done well! read more

Dr Jesperson is great. I have had 3 root canals over the years and I am impressed with his speed and quality of treatment. He however is not one to chat a lot, I believe it's because he always has 2 or 3 other patients waiting, all of which are probably in pain. This last root canal there was decay under the crown he was working on, decay that couldn't be seen from the x-ray. He finished the procedure (in record time) and sent me back to my general dentist, he said he would refund 2/3 of the cost of the root canal if my tooth was a complete loss. It turns out the tooth was a loss and Dr J. Is a man of his word. I received a refund and was very pleased. Dr J. Is fast efficient and fair and that's why I keep going back. read more

I was referred to Dr. Jespersen by my general dentist for a consultation. I had a crack in a tooth and my dentist thought I might need a root canal. I made an appointment with Dr. Jespersen. When I got to the office, I was told by the receptionist that I needed a "work authorization" from my secondary dental insurance (my primary insurance was going to cover 80% and my secondary insurance could potentially cover a portion of the rest - it wasn't clear) in order to determine whether any additional coverage was possible. I did not know I needed the work authorization before this since my appointment was only for a consultation. The receptionist was nice and said she would look into it and in the meantime, I could go in and see the dentist. I had an xray taken and then Dr. Jespersen came in to talk to me. While I was explaining my tooth issue, the receptionist came back and said the work authorization would take 48h. I again said that I didn't realize that this was necessary before this appointment, and wouldn't the authorization be requested by general dentist, not me? She agreed. Then Dr. Jespersen proceeded to give me a lecture, stating that insurance is my responsibility, they are doing me a courtesy by them even looking into it. He went on and told me that they had booked this time slot for me and set aside time to see me. I also told him that I too had set aside time for this appointment and was not made aware of this work authorization requirement. He was incredibly rude and disrespectful and walked out of the room while we were still discussing my options. I then told the assistant and receptionist that I did not want to have any treatment done by Dr. Jespersen. It was so surprising to be treated this way. I have never experienced anything like this before from a medical professional. I urge you to find a dentist that isn't condescending or rude. Look elsewhere! read more

I had a root canal that needed to be retreated. When I explained to Dr. Jespersen about my situation, it didn't really seem like he cared much about my story. When we got to the actual root canal treatment, he jammed two shots of medicine in my bottow right jaw. When I saw say jammed I literally mean he inserted the needle with great force which made me feel extremely uncomfortable an in pain. I am almost never the one to complain about going to the dentists but this guy is really something. He didn't really communicate with me about what was going on. I've been to an endodontist before and my experience was extremely positive. Once he got to the actual treatment he told me to raise my right hand if I felt pain. Sure enough, once he began the procedure I felt extreme pain in my bottom right jaw and neck. As the result of the pain I jerked amd raised my right arm quickly. Dr. Jespersen immediately reprimanded me for raising my right arm and jerking. Then he said he couldn't understand where the pain came from totally disregarding the fact his forceful style hurt me. After he finished the root canal, he pretty much said absolutely nothing and left. His assistant was helpful and nice. Dr. Jespersen is really not a friendly and caring doctor. His style of work is too forcefull. He has too much of a get it over with attitude, and absolutely no sense of customer service. One of the previous reviews said that this dental practice is like a root canal factory and that person was exactly right. I would not recommend this endodontist to anyone. read more

This guy is GOOD. I needed a root canal on a molar and expected to be in the dentist chair for 3 hours, but he had me in and out in just under an hour. He and his assistant worked like a finely tuned machine. As soon as he was done with one tool, his assistant had another waiting. There was no downtime at all. I actually counted how many times they swapped tools. In a minute, he entered my mouth with 9 different tools, each of which had to be passed from his assistant. When all was done, he did leave the room somewhat abruptly, but at no point was he rude. He was friendly enough. Do the other reviewer's really go to an endodontist to make friends? I go to pay them to do a job, and that's it. As long as you pay your bills and don't like to waste time with pointless chit chat, you will be satisfied with Dr Jespersen. If you don't pay bills or you do like to chat like a teenage girl at lunch, then go elsewhere for a less skilled dentist. read more

he is a bad combination of being incompetent and greedy. he is charging twice as much as other docs. most importantly, he recommended to extract a perfectly fine tooth, so i ended up going to another doctor who fixed it without an extraction and patched up the other tooth that jespersen worked on. the fact that his office does not even have a website with an email address to contact them tells you how much they respect their patients. read more

Dr. Jespersen does have a reputation (at my regular dentist's office and by people I know who have seen him) for not having much of a bedside manner. After seeing him, I found that all this means is he has his staff explain things to the patient and he is present only for the parts of the procedure that require him. He is exceedingly competent and performed the least painful root canal I've ever experienced. Others I know who have visited him have said the same thing - they could care less how much the doctor talks to them if they know they are going to experience little or no discomfort from a root canal. I've seen both Bruce Jespersen and his brother James in Santa Clara, and I'll have to give the nod to Bruce Jespersen, though the ease of the procedure may have more to do with the condition and location of the tooth than the relative skill of the two doctors. Anyway, I give Dr. Jespersen five stars because it isn't often you leave the Endodontist thinking, "Gee, that wasn't bad at all." read more
